23rd November 2008 League Cup
Exmouth Amateurs 6 v 1 Tivvy U14s GIRLS
Tiverton Town met Exmouth Amateurs for the second time in 3 weeks, but despite a spirited performance, they lost 6-1 in the first leg of the League Cup.
In a great advertisement for girls football, Exmouth reached half time 3-0 up despite an even half. Two early goals in the second half put Exmouth firmly in control of the tie before Tivvi pulled one back following a terrific run and a cool finish by Jo Thomas.
Tiverton Town will take heart from a good team performance in only their fourth game against an established Exmouth side and will look forward to the second leg.
Player of the match was awarded to Chantelle Saunders and players’ player was awarded to Charlotte Alsopp.
9th November 2008 League
Tivvy U14s GIRLS 3 v 7 Exmouth Amateurs
Tiverton Town U14 girls pushed league leaders Exmouth Amateurs all the way in a cracking contest despite eventually losing 7-3. Exmouth had only previously conceded 2 goals in 5 matches so Tiverton manager Nick Saunders was delighted to score 3 against a well organised team. On chances created Tiverton could easily have added to the total; however good finishing by Exmouth ensured they stayed top of the table. There were good performances all round in only the third match that the girls have played together. Player of the match was awarded to Kaya Williams. Abbie Tolly scored the first goal levelling the score line to 1-1 with an excellent finish midway through the first half before Exmouth Amateurs put in a four more goals. Sophie Bamforth added to her run of good form by scoring the next 2 goals for Tiverton Town.
28th September 2008 League
Tivvy U14s GIRLS 4 v 3 Crediton YFC
Tiverton won their first ever U14 league fixture defeating Crediton YFC 4-3; however as last week they had to bounce back from conceding two early goals. Sophie Bamforth continued with her good goal scoring form by pulling one back before Abbie Tolly scored one from the penalty spot just before half time. Following the break, Tiverton pushed forward and Sophie Bamforth completed her hat trick to put Tiverton 4-2 up. Crediton to their credit, continued to battle and the goalkeeper Holly Tunstall had to block a number of goal bound efforts. Their pressure eventually led to a further goal, however Tiverton held on for a 4-3 win. Manager Nick Saunders awarded player of the match to Charlotte Alsopp.
21st September 2008 League
Kingskerswell 2 v 2 Tivvy U14s GIRLS
Tiverton Town U14 girls kicked off their first ever league game with a good footballing display in a 2-2 draw away against Kingskerswell Colts in a game they should have won. However despite controlling most of the first half, Tiverton found themselves 2-0 down at half time. This followed the award of a penalty after a late challenge by Chantelle Saunders in the 15th minute and a rare error from the goalkeeper Holly Tunstall as she allowed the ball to slip through her hands in the 25th minute.
Tiverton continued to dominate the match after half time with some attractive football. They reduced the deficit from a corner kick with a well taken goal from Sophie Bamforth at the far post 5 minutes into the second half. The match then became an even, hard fought contest and despite plenty of pressure from Tiverton they had to rely on the crossbar and the post to keep them in the game. With 15 minutes remaining and chances going begging Sophie Bamforth was moved from centre midfield to centre forward and found the back of the net 5 minutes before full time, with a well taken shot into the far corner to level the score. Manager Nick Saunders was delighted with all his players for their first competitive league game and awarded player of the match to Shnnon Collins.
