30th April 2009 Tiverton Town FC Youth Challenge Cup

Tivvy U16s 0 v 5 Tivvy U18s

Tiverton Town Youth Challenge Cup

Thursday 30th April 2009, played at Ladysmead

Both sides were looking to impress with this game and it was clear Ryan Germans squad were well up for it. It was the U18’s though that started the brighter keeping the U16s penned into their own half for long periods of the first half. It was Jimbo who opened the scoring after Hoody’s shot was parried out by Kurtis Parking falling at the feet of Jimbo who placed the ball well making it 1 – 0 . The U18s continued to pressure the ball but the younger side continued to pass the ball around when they had the chance and their first real opportunity came around the half hour mark from a free kick that was well delivered but it slipped wide of the goal. Damo was linking up well with Hoody and a great flick on almost saw Hoody double the lead with a lob that was a tad too hard. 2 minutes into added time Ben Turner managed to get the U18’s second when he slipped the ball past Parkin from close range.

The second half started with the U16’s endeavouring to pass the ball towards goal, but the additional strength of the U18s was at times quite evident, but they came very close to pulling a goal back, forcing Tank (stand in keeper) to make a great save, the danger was not yet over and Henry Pinkrah had to clear the ball off the line. Just before the 20 minute mark Frenchy found himself in fear of getting the coveted Hawaiian shirt with an outrageous miss from 4 yrds out, he managed to redeem himself moments later after Damo and Lewis Spence worked well together to provide Frenchy with an easy tap in. Spence turned from provider to score 10 minutes later after the keeper fumbled the ball and Spence poked it in to make it 4 – 0 , with moments of the game remaining Spence got his second of the game to end it 5 – 0.

Although the U18s retained the Cup, the U16s were an absolute credit to themselves and their manager with some quality football that was a pleasure to see bearing in mind some of them will be looking to make it into the U18s for the 2009/10 season.

Goal Scorers: James MacMartin, Ben Turner, Josh French, Lewis Spence (2)

Tivvy U16s 4 v 0 Langport

Tiverton Town Under 16's welcomed Langport to Ladysmead this week in a match that saw the young yellows crowned 'League Champions'. The yellows knew if they get the three points, then the League title comes with it. the first 20 minutes started at a slow pace and it was clear to see that the Tivvy boys were thinking about getting the title. On the half hour mark the dead lock was broken when Oli Nott whipped in a great corner and it took a flick off a Langport player for an own goal. The rest of the half was also quite slow and a bit flat. With the score at 1-0 at half time, changes were made. Tiverton then came out and played some nice football and started the brighter. Finally in the 70th minute, Tivvy grabbed the second goal and then went on to get a third and fourth. The final score saw the yellows run out 4-0 winners but credit has to go to Langport who battled well and perhaps deserved to get a goal or two. Goal scorers were: Matt Coombes and Joe Byrne 2. Playing well were: Jesse Howe, Correy Couch and Josh Wren who all got joint man of the match. The boys deserve all the credit for all the hard work they have put it over the season. They have gelled as a team and have produced some great football. With the League won, we just have one more mission left. Hamilton!

Tivvy U16s 1 v 0 Westonzoyland

HOWE CRUCIAL

Tiverton Under 16's played their first game this season under floodlights on Tuesday night and what a game it was. With the lights on and the surface yet again looking spectacular, the Tivvy boys stepped up to the plate. Westonzoyland were the opponents and they started with kick off, but within 10 seconds, the yellows won the ball back and went on the attack. With fast flowing football, the Tivvy boys picked up where they left off from the last game and dominated the first half. Everyone worked hard and played as a team and with at least 75% of the possession, the only thing that was missing from a very good first half display, were goals. Half time came and the scoreline was 0-0. With an encouraging team talk and with the Yellows still feeling good about themselves, they went out and produced some even better football which saw Nick Redrup, Nathan Walter and Matt Coombes miss chances. Just when it was looking like the score was going to be 0-0, which would mean the Tivvy boys would have to go to Hamilton in a MUST win game, the young yellows won a corner. Shane Fyles delivered the ball inch perfect and up jumped Jesse Howe to head the ball into the Westonzoyland net and claim the winner. Credit must go to Westonzoyland who made it hard for Tivvy to break them down and defended very well as a unit. With just two games to go all that is needed for the boys to claim the League title is one more win. Playing well were all the team but in particular: Correy Couch, Shane Fyles, Josh Wren, Oli Nott and Man of the Match Jesse Howe. Goal scorer was Jesse Howe.

Tivvy U16s 3 v 0 Wellington Town

Tiverton U16's entertained Wellington this week which was once again played on the fantastic surface of Ladysmead. The yellows from start to finish were in total control and never looked like letting their opponents get into the match. The boys played some brilliant 1 and 2 touch football in the first half and without too many problems appearing in the back 3, soon enough came the first goal which Nathan Walter smartly tucked away. Shortly after, Tivvy were given a free kick of which was delivered and Oli Nott scored. The score at 2-0 and the possession and territory high in Tivvy's favour as well; it was only a matter of time until the third goal came which was a simple tap in after a great spell of quick football, which saw Matt Coombes claim his 11th of the season. 3-0 at half time and the second half was no different regarding possession and territory. With at least 80% of the possession and the Tivvy boys camped in the oppositions half their was surprisingly no more goals in the game. Final score was 3-0 Tiverton which gives the boys a 5 point gap at the top with just 3 games to go. Goal Scorers were: Matt Coombes, Oli Nott and Nathan Walter. Playing well were: Louis Hutter, Oli Nott, Josh Wren, James Howe and Man of the Match Shane Fyles.

8th March 2009 Taunton Youth League

Westonzoyland 0 v 4 Tivvy U16s

Tiverton U16's travelled to Westonzoyland this week. On a wet and very windy day, the young yellows produced as good as football as you can produce in the very mixed weather the boys had to play in. Westonzoyland had the first 5 minutes of the match and missed a very easy chance to go 1 up. But from there on in, it was one way traffic. The yellows started to knock the ball about quite quickly and with a clever lob over the Westonzoyland defence, Nick Redrup opened up the scoring with his newly found confidence. Tivvy then camped in the Westonzoyland half and eased into cruise control. Another 2 goals from Matt Coombes and Correy Couch saw Tiverton 3-0 up at half-time. The second half once again saw Tiverton control the game and it was only a matter of time until Jesse Howe found the back of the net with a calmly taken goal. Playing well were: Louis Hutter, Matt Scrace, Oli Nott, Josh Wren and Man of the Match: Correy Couch. Goals scored by: Matt Coombes, Correy Couch, Nick Redrup and Jesse Howe. Well Done to stand in keeper Darren Cossey, as he is now level on clean sheets with the 1st choice keeper with 2 clean sheets in 3 games.

1st March 2009 Taunton Youth League

Tivvy U16s 9 v 1 Bridgwater Rhode Lane

Tiverton Town Under 16's hosted Bridgwater Rhode Lane this weekend. The young yellows started with a different formation this week, but not really adapting very well to the new 3-4-3. It took the yellows 15 minutes to get used to the formation and start passing the ball around like they know they can. 15 minutes gone and Jesse Howe opened up the scoring with a delightful lob over the on rushing goal keeper. This seemed to have kicked the boys into action and led to another goal shortly after to double their lead. With Tivvy 2-0 up and in cruise control, the game was in no doubt and the yellows were now finally showing their potential to be a quality passing team. The flowing moves kept coming and gaps began to open in the Bridgwater defence. It wasn't long until Tivvy then scored a third and then went on to take a 5-0 lead into the half time break, with Joe Byrne scoring directly from a corner. The boys came out and continued their flowing, attractive football and went on to take another two goals before the weekly mistake from the Tivvy boys which has so often proved costly and once again costing us a goal through lack of concentration and communication. The final score was 9-1 and Tiverton are now edging closer and closer to taking the League title. Since the loss at Hamilton in the cup, the boys have showed their full potential and played some great football which has shot them to the top of the table. Playing well were all the team but in particular: Joe Byrne, Nick Redrup, Louis Hutter, Darren Cossey and man of the match Josh Wren. Scorers were: Nick Redrup 2, Joe Byrne 2, Jesse Howe, James Howe, Josh Tunstall, Oli Nott and Correy 'Mr Lucks' Couch.

22nd February 2009 Taunton Youth League

Twyford Spartans 0 v 5 Tivvy U16s

Tiverton Town U16's played Twyford Spartans at Elmore FC this Sunday. After a very sloppy first 10 minutes, Tivvy started to pick up the tempo and tried their best to play football on a very uneven surface. The football got better as the half went on and The Yellows got their reward with a brilliant 25 yard strike from the very impressive Oli Nott. The score stayed 1-0 until after the half time break when Tiverton came out and once again played some decent stuff which saw them double their lead through a great cross from Shane Fyles which resulted in a close range strike from Josh Tunstall. The game then went very flat and failed to pick up after the second goal. Tiverton did have spells where they tried to play some decent football and were rewarded in the end when they scored 3 more goals and finished the game with a clean sheet. The final result was 5-0. Playing well were most of the team but in particular: Oli Nott, Jesse Howe, Louis Hutter, Our Stand In Keeper Darren Cossey and Man Of The Match Matt Scrace. Goal scorers were: Josh Tunstall, James Howe, Matt Coombes, Oli Nott and Joe Byrne.

25th January 2009 Taunton Youth League Cup

Tivvy U16s 2 v 3 Hamilton

Tiverton U16's travelled to Hamilton this week to compete for a place in the final of the league cup. With 2 key players dropping out with injury before the match and with a 20 minute delayed kick off, things weren't looking good for the yellows. Tiverton started off poor with no motivation and no willingness to battle and earn themselves a place in the final. Instead completely the opposite, the Tivvy team thought they deserved a place in the final because of past performances, how wrong they were made to be. With Hamilton starting the better, they got their deserved goal to take the lead 1-0. Shortly after Shane Fyles hit a screamer to level the score line. Hamilton then picked up again and began to outclass and out battle a Tivvy team who looked like they had never played together before. In every department, Tivvy were second best and Hamilton took advantage of their chances when, just like the first, the young yellows made yet another simple, basic mistake and gifted Hamilton their second. Luckily and undeservedly Tivvy hit straight back just before half time, with once again Shane Fyles hitting yet another screamer. 2-2 at half time and it was anyone's game. Having got out of jail and going in level, everyone expected the yellows to go on and improve and book their place in the final but just when it couldn't get any worse, it did. The skipper was unable to play on and the positions had to be changed . Tivvy then had 15-20 minutes of the second half which saw chance after chance wasted and in the end it cost them, when Hamilton got the winner just 10 minutes from time. A cold, wet day finished with a very sad result but a deserved win for Hamilton and we wish the the best of luck in the final. Playing well for Tiverton were: Alex Sanderon, Oli Nott and man of the match Matt Coombes.

30th November 2008 Taunton Youth League Cup

Tivvy U16s 3 v 2 Westzoyland

Tiverton U16's played Westonzoyland in the League Cup Quarter Final on Sunday. The match started off very scrappy and continued in this fashion for most of the first half. With Tivvy not really being pressured, the young yellows strolled into a 2-0 lead. With some seriously poor and scrappy football Tiverton conceded and Westonzoyland got a deserved goal. 2-1 and within seconds of the restart, the yellows put some very rare passes together to put a 2 goal cushion back on the scoreline. 3-1 was the half time score. With a quick half time talk, both teams came back out and showed very little inspiration to improve on what was a very poor first half of football. With both teams having very few spells of good football, the score stayed 3-1 and ended that way. Credit to Westonzoyland, who never gave up and were inspired by their keeper who had a fantastic game. Playing well for Tivvy were: Ben Farrington, Darren Cossey and Man Of The Match James Howe. Goals came from James Howe, Correy Couch and Oli Nott.

16th November 2008 Taunton Youth League

Tivvy U16s 9 v 2 Twyford Spartans

Tiverton Town U16's welcomed local team Twyford Spartans to Ladysmead, in what proved to be the biggest battle of the season yet. With massive hype surrounding the game and a crowd of well over 150 supporters, the first half saw determined battles and periods of great football. Twyford were the first team to pounce and take the lead from a long ball, where the young yellows centre backs lacked communication and got caught too flat which resulted in Twyfords striker lobbing the on rushing keeper. The goal sparked Tivvy into action and within 15 minutes the score line was level with sub Joe Byrne finding space to create a half chance which crept under Twyfords keeper. With more chances created and missed from both teams, the score was level at 1-1 going in the half time interval. With another sub made at half time, Tiverton come out all guns blazing and within 5 minutes found themselves 2-1 up with Matt Coombes getting the goal. The yellows then stepped up a gear with a fantastic free kick from Oli 'Mr Cool' Nott, which put us 3-1 up. The fourth shortly followed when Josh Tunstall added to the goal scorers list. Credit to Twyford, who never gave up and showed never ending fighting spirit, especially from their skipper Sam Butler. With further goals from Joe Byrne, Jesse Howe, Charlie Martin, Matt Coombes and Jack Burt, the game ended Tiverton 9, Twyford 2. Overall the yellows played very good football when needed and produced a spirited second half performance to keep their unbeaten league run to an impressive 6 games so far!!! Playing well were: The whole team but the two players who got voted Man Of The Match was: Ben Farrington and Jack Burt. Next weeks game is against Avishayes once again hopefully at the impressive turf known as Ladysmead!!!

9th November 2008 Devon County Cup

Activate Youth 5 v 0 Tivvy U16s

Tiverton U16's travelled to Plymouth where they took on a very physical but organised Activate team, on a day that had it all: wind, rain, hail, and yes..NO REFEREE!!! Having completed the warm up, after getting everybody up for the game, the young yellows went out determined to start well. 10 minutes later, they found themselves back in the changing room keeping warm as we waited for a Referee. Finally kicking off 25 minutes late, both teams started well. With heavy wind and rain blowing towards them, Tivvy did their best to keep the ball on the deck and play the football they are well capable of. With Activate finding themselves more on top as the game went on, they also found themselves 1-0 up, after a 30 yard hit which seem to generate some extra pace to beat Keeper, Kurtis Parkin. Shortly after, Activate went 2-0 up with the Activate keeper kicking from his hands, clearing the defence and beating the keeper with the bounce to score a goal from his own box. Now you might have some idea of how strong the wind really was!!! The yellows were certainly not out of the game and picked things up with great runs from Nathan Walter down the left flank and also superb hold up play from Jesse Howe. After having a very decent penalty claim turned down and many scrambles on the goal line, the half time whistle went and Activate went into the break 2 up. With the coaching staff feeling very confident the game was there for the yellows if they wanted it badly enough, it was Activate who proved in fact they were more up for a battle. After some more chances were missed, the yellows were made to pay when Activate got a third from some very sloppy marking from a set piece. 3-0 down, Tivvy then hit the bar and also had two injuries to two of the key players. With time running out the boys pushed for the goals they needed, only to leave more holes in the tired defence and midfield. Activate eventually ran out 5-0 winners, in what some would say is a flattering score line. Playing well for Tivvy were: Nathan Walter, Oli Nott, Correy Couch, Josh Tunstall and Man of the Match Alex Sanderson. Our next game is a top of the table clash, where we entertain Twyford Spartans at Ladysmead, with both teams currently unbeaten in the League.

19th October 2008 Taunton Youth League CUP

Watchet 0 v 5 Tivvy U16s

Tiverton 16's travelled to Watchet on Sunday which was down to be the yellows toughest test yet. After being drawn away to one of the top teams in the top division it was tough to pick out anything from their recent results. One thing guaranteed was that the young yellows were full of confidence AND READY FOR THE TEST. The whistle went and both teams started well with good flowing football. After a spell of scrappy football Tiverton then opened the scoring through Joe Byrne who looked very sharp and intelligent throughout. The visitors were 1-0 up and had added belief. This kicked the boys up a few gears which then saw a second goal follow very shortly through the outstanding Nathan Walter. 2-0 up and looking by far the better side, Tiverton were then happy to contain Watchet for a little while to just a few long shots which didn't affect the forever improving Kurtis Parkin. Just as half time was approaching, Tivvy stepped it up once more. A perfectly weighted pass over the top from Correy Couch to Nathan Walter saw the lads get a third and Nathan get his second. Now it was 3-0 and very comfortable the natural reaction is to sit back...ISN'T IT??? Not if your hungry for goals and shortly after the third, Tivvy got their fourth and Nathan Walter sealed his hatrick to give the yellows a 4-0 half time lead. The second half saw some changes and once again some magic football. Quick 2 touch football and excellent free flowing stuff saw Tivvy win a penalty and the very calm Oli Nott slotted it home to round off what was a vintage performance from the whole squad and a very fine win. It was also the second clean sheet in the last 3 games. Goal Scorers were: Oli Nott, Joe Byrne and man of the match Nathan Walter who bagged a hatrick. Also playing well were the whole squad but in particular: Matt Scrace, Kurtis Parkin, Alex Sanderson and Louis Hutter. Speaking after the game was one of the players of the season so far, Shane Fyles and he said: "We have started well but this performance was certainly the best yet. If we carry on playing the way we are, then I am confident we can win things and produce even better football." The captain, Matt Scrace also added: "Today was a big boost and the confidence level is very high right now, but we have to make sure we don't turn it into arrogance and sit back. We have to keep improving and make sure we maintain the standard we have now set ourselves!"

12th October 2008 Taunton Youth League

Wellington Town 1 v 6 Tivvy U16s

Tiverton U16's travelled to Wellington this week which had all the makings to be a tough game with 1st up against 3rd in the league. Tiverton started the better and played good quick football which resulted in the 'yellows' winning a penalty, only for Matt 'I slipped' Coombes to hit straight at the keeper and miss :-)!!! 10 minutes later, totally against the run of play, Wellington broke and with some sloppy defending, they took the lead. Once again with the tivvy team finding themselves 1-0 behind, they showed that not only can they play some decent footy, but they also have character and spirit which shone through and turned the result around. With James Howe and Oli Nott linking up well, it was only a matter of time until the yellows would break through and sure enough with patient football, Tivvy found themselves winning at half time. The second half saw even better football with more chances. Goals from Nathan Walter, Josh Tunstall and a stunner of a strike from Jesse 'The Hitman' Howe turned the game around and eventually saw Tiverton running out 6-1 winners. Goals came from: Nathan Walter, Josh Tunstall, Matt Coombes, Jesse Howe, Oli Nott and Nick Redrup. Playing well for Tivvy was the WHOLE squad but in particular: Matt Scrace, Louis Hutter, Nathan Walter, Josh Tunstall, Jesse Howe, James Howe and Man of the Match, Oli 'Mr Cool' Nott. Next weeks game will be the toughest yet, when The Yellows will be travelling to Watchet who are in the top division. Fingers crossed, we will get another good turn out and the parents will get behind the lads in a game that must be sorted on the day. Another 3 points and another good performace keeps Tivvy on top of the league and we're hoping thats the way it will stay. MUST WIN GAME NEXT WEEK!!!

28th September 2008 Taunton Youth League

Langport 0 v 3 Tivvy U16s

Tivvy 16's travelled to Langport this week which was a must keep a clean sheet game. Tivvy started well and the defending was by far the best yet. On the front foot for most of the game, Langports keeper pulled off some very good saves. Tivvy took the lead through Nick Redrup who has now scored 8 in 3. With the first half mainly being scrappy, the second half saw much better football from the yellows and caused Langport many troubles but for another week, the finishing wasn't up to scratch. Langports captain created a few very rare attacks that keeper Kurtis Parkin had to be alert for. The game was wrapped up and the 3 points were finally safe, when the Tivvy skipper, Matt 'Aka Terry' Scrace popped up to score the final 2 goals, both from corners. A clean sheet was the order and a clean sheet the yellows deservedly got. Playing the better football but perhaps not the better battlers, Tivvy ran out 3-0 winners in a fair reflection of the game. Playing well for Tivvy 16's were: Matt Scrace, Louis Hutter who had his best game in a Tivvy shirt as of yet, Alex Sanderson and Kurtis Parkin. Man of the match went to the brave and confident Correy Couch. Tivvy now have next weekend off and hopefully will come back even more hungry for goals and points!!!

21st September 2008 Taunton Youth League

Tivvy U16s 6 v 2 Hamilton

Tiverton Town U16's this week welcomed Hamilton U16's to Ladysmead on what was, a very hot day. Tiverton started off sluggish and went down 1-0 from a free kick. Once again it took Tivvy quite long to get into the game but when they did and once they started playing the football they no they can, there was only one team in it. Quick passes and clever movement created chance after chance for Tivvy. Oli Nott's lively movement upfront alongside James Howes finishing worked well and with only 4 chances taken before half time, Hamilton might have counted themselves some what fortunate to still be in the game. Half-Time saw Tivvy winning 4-1. The boys went out the second half and once again played good football, in fact better football then the first half but strangely enough fewer goals. With Shane Fyles, Josh Wren and Jack Burt controlling the centre of midfield, Tivvy once again created chance after chance but again failed to score many. Instead, following a poor mix up at the back, another goal was given away through a sloppy mistake but the 2 centre backs, Louis Hutter and Matt Scrace had their best game yet alongside each other. The final score was 6-2 which now takes it to unbeaten in 3 games but without a clean sheet.....yet!!! Goal scorers were: Matt Coombes 1, Correy Couch 1, James Howe 2 and Oli Nott also bagged 2 on his debut. Playing well were most of the team but in particular: Matt Scrace, Oli Nott and man of the match: Nathan Walter. Next weeks game is away to Langport. Clean Sheet is the target!!!

14th September 2008 Taunton Youth League

Bridgwater Rhode Lane 3 v 9 Tivvy U16s

After dishing out a thumping last week, Tiverton U16's were up against Bridgwater Rhode Lane, who got relegated from the top division last year. The match kicked off and Tiverton started the better. Keeping the ball well and having at least 10 shots in the first 15 minutes but most of them being hit straight at the keeper. Then from a long throw and a mix up in the Tiverton box, Bridgwater scored totally against the run of play and took the lead. It then led to Tivvy rushing their play and the game then began to get scrappy. Cross after cross came from the brilliant Josh Tunstall and eventually Tivertons possession paid off and they got their reward. The half then saw 2 sloppy goals given away by Tiverton and also another 3 scored from Tivvy. The yellows led 4-3 at half time. A repeat of the first half had to be avoided and a clean sheet was a MUST. Tiverton started off good, bossing every position on the field and finally began to hit the back of the net. With goals from Jesse Howe and Nathan Walter we took the lead again. Bridgwater, however did keep their shape very well, considering the lack of ball they had and credit must go to their keeper who saved them from a big defeat. With a penalty given to Tivvy towards the end, it gave Matt Coombes a chance to convert and make it 9-3. Bridgwater then had a rare attack and just when it was looking like the clean sheet in the second half might escape the yellows, a terrific amount of bravery from keeper, Kurtis Parkin, was shown to keep the striker out but at the expense of Kurtis having to come off for the last 10 minutes with a suspected broken nose. The final score was 9-3 and given the pitch and the gritty performance from Bridgwater, the tivvy boys didn't do too bad. Still playing good stuff at times and defending well at others, this Tivvy team have got potential to become a fantastic young footballing squad. However, how long this takes, remains to be seen!!! Goals were scored by: Jesse Howe, Josh Wren and Matt coombes who got one a piece, Nick Redrup who got 2 and Nathan Walter who got a well deserved Hatrick. The missing goal was an own goal. Man of the Match was given to Shane Fyles who showed great work rate and controlled the midfield. Josh Tunstall also had a fantastic game and looked lively going forward every time. Next weeks game sees Tivvy entertain Hamilton who are unbeaten. Something has to give!!!

Avishayes 1 v 19 Tivvy U16s

Tivvy 16's travelled to Avishayes on Sunday to play their first league game. The first half was dominated by Tiverton from start to finish, with the back 4 playing it out smoothly and the midfield 4 looking confident and able to pick a pass at any moment. With keeper Kurtis Parkin playing it out early on every occasion, it gave the team time and space to play decent, attractive football and that's exactly what we saw for the majority of the first half. Possession led to goals, that included screamers from Jack Burt and Matt Scrace. Winning 8-0 at half time made the managers talk easy. Keep the ball was the order and Tiverton came out the second half and showed they were going to try and keep the ball and play it around. More goals followed in a half that wasn't as attractive as the first and Tivvy then hit double figures in no time. With roll on and roll off subs, players had breathers and we also saw the team try a different formation. Credit to Avishayes, as they didn't give up and kept battling and sure enough they got rewarded, when a mix up between the 2 centre backs led to a very rare shot on goal which the Avishayes striker calmly slotted past the keeper. The end result saw Tiverton win 19-1. The team overall are forever improving and everyone is now showing they are hungry for trophies and determined to work for their new team mates that has now formed into a very good footballing team. Goal scorers were: Shane Fyles, Matt Scrace, Jack Burt and Nathan Walter all with 1, Josh Tunstall and Jesse Howe each got 2, James Howe and Matt Coombes got their hatricks with Nick Redrup, who was on fire, scoring 5. Man of the Match was Correy Couch who was very commanding in the air and always give an option for his team mates. Next weeks match is away again to Bridgwater Rhode Lane who were last year relegated from the top division. Set the target now, lets keep it up!!!

Exeter City 9 v 1 Tivvy U16s

Tiverton travelled to the Cat and Fiddle this week to fulfil their last friendly match before the new season. What was expected to be a very tough game against a team that has been coached by very good coaches for over 6 years, was indeed the toughest game yet. The match kicked off and for the first 5 minutes Tiverton held their own and competed well. Unfortunately through sloppy play Exeter went 1-0 up and from that point, started to take control of the game. Exeter then started piling the pressure on the Tiverton back 4 and in a matter of minutes we found ourselves 3-0 down. The half time was blown and 6-0 Exeter said it all. Tiverton weren't playing their best. Exeter through out the whole game were a different class and a very well organised side. In the second half, a more determined Tivvy team showed that they were not ready to give up just yet and would try and fight their way back into the game. We played some good football at times and when we did play it easy and attack in numbers, Tivvy did not look out of place. Unfortunately, Exeter's movement off the ball was too quick for us to handle and we conceded another 3. A couple minutes towards the end Nathan Walter bombed forward, as he did the whole game and won us a penalty, which was coolly slotted home by a very lively Olly Nott. The final score was 9-1 but the work rate and the determination showed by the Tiverton team was not to go un-noticed. Well done to the boys and we now know what we have to aim for. Man of the Match was Nathan Walter. Next game is this Sunday when we travel to Avishayes for the first league game.

24th August 2008 Friendly

Tivvy U16s 8 v 0 Seaton Town

After many weeks of training, the Tiverton Town U16's Squad 2008-09 finally kicked off their season and in fine style too. Straight from the whistle, every player in a yellow shirt showed their desire to win by closing the Seaton Town players down very quick. Through out the match, this continued but the pretty football didn't. Good at times but lazy at others, the Tiverton Team put in a good result but an average performance. On a narrow pitch, the midfield of both teams were challenged in finding space, but when they did, both teams showed they could play quick and effective football. The half-time whistle was blown and Tiverton came in very confident and at ease. In the second half, Seaton put more pressure on, forcing Kurtis Parkin to make some excellent saves, but in general the defence, who were organised by Matt Scrace and Louis Hutter looked un-pressured and comfortable. Once again with good football in stages, Tiverton showed that they were certainly not shy in front on goal: with a hatrick from Ryan Turner and 2 screamers from Nathan Walter. The match on the whole was a good team performance, given that it was the first match the boys have played together in. The final result was Tiverton 8, Seaton 0. Goals came from Ryan Turner 3, Nathan 'The Rocket' Walter 2, Charlie Martin, James Howe and Matt Coombes. Man of the Match was Captain Matt Scrace. All players played well in front of a good crowd, BUT have more to give!!! Hoping to see another good crowd and an even better performance away to Exeter City next Sunday.
