Tiverton Town in Exeter & District League Action April 2009

TIVERTON TOWN 4 CENTRAL UNITED 0

This game got off to a slightly scrappy start with both teams working hard for possession of the ball. Tivvy showed signs of some good passing, mainly coming from OWEN linking up well in midfield, but didn't really get going into their fluent passing until they took the lead. The goal coming from GREENSLADE after a loose kick from the central keeper from the edge of his area ended up at his feet and he lobbed a lovely shot over the stranded keeper into the roof of the net. Once ahead the lads never really looked back and soon carved out chances, HIDE working hard up and down the left and feeding the ball in well. SCAMPTON got on the end of one but fired narrowly wide. STONEMAN and HAMLIN were solid at the back breaking down any attack. A nice attack from OWEN and SCAMPTON playing a 1-2 put SCAMPTON in on goal, but when his shot was deflected to the side OWEN slid in well to hook it back across goal with his left foot to go in at half time 2-0 up. The second half saw substitutes PEKTEMIZ and MESSENGER come on and they both took up their possitions well, PEKTEMIZ tackling well in defence, and MESSENGER getting involved down the right.5 minutes in SCAMPTON played a lovely flick to put MESSENGER in on goal but his shot was well saved, de didn't give up though and when he battled to win back possesion of the ball he squared a nice pass to OWEN who finished with a lovely side foot to the keepers left. COLE was called upon midway through the second half and didn't dissapoint with a fine save. HIDE worked continuously all game and after winning a good tackle he fed the ball through to SCAMPTON, he held it up well under pressure and once again fed a great ball down the right for MESSENGER, who waited for OWEN to make a good run in the box and whipped in a super cross which OWEN met with a right foot volley, in off the post, to claim a quality hat-trick. SCAMPTON, involved in 3 of the goals nearly got himself on the score sheet right at the end, though the keeper saved well, but was later rewarded man of the match.

TIVERTON TOWN 5 CENTRAL CITY 0

This was to be tivvy's last game in the exeter youth league this season and they finished off in style. Again it took awhile to get goin with city working extremely hard and getting players behind the ball well. Tivvy kept the pressure up all half creating half chances here and there. They were rewarded just before half time when MESSENGER swung in a nice corner and an unfortunate city player shanked a clearance into his own net, 1-0 up, half time. Again like the first game once tivvy got the lead it never looked like they would lose it with some tremendous passing, the best was when HIDE passed 2, played in SCAMPTON down the middle who first time played it square to a supporting OWEN he ran into the right hand side of the box and played a lovely ball across the face of the keeper which MESSENGER ran onto and slotted in cooly to go 2 up. MESSENGER soon after became the provider when he put through SCAMPTON who this time got his goal when he hit it in the top corner with the outside of his right boot. PEKTEMIZ was solid at the back all game and when retrieving tackles calmly played the ball to the midfielders. HAMLIN also had a good game at the back and pushing forward to support in midfield.. COLE was patient between the sticks and was always aware when picking up loose through balls and kicking downfield well. About 5 minutes from time in the last game of the season their was a contender for goal of the season when a clearance after a tivvy corner bounced out to PEKTEMIZ who hit it first time on the volley, looping over all the defence and keeper to claim his first league goal for tivvy in style. Tivvy were not quite finished and just before time some great passing ended up with GREENSLADE, who drilled the ball in off the post from a tight angle to round off a 5-0 win. thanks for a great season lads.

TIVVY TOWN 10 V 0 HEAVITREE

Tivvy were up for this game from the start and immediately pushed forwards against a battling heavitree side, and it wasn't long before a through ball from SCAMPTON put GREENSLADE 1 on 1 with the keeper, who fired low and hard across goal into the bottom corner to take the lead. SCAMPTON got himself on the scoresheet next, poking past the keeper when 1 on 1. Soon after some pressure from tivvy forced a corner, SCAMPTON took and OWEN met it at the near post with a right foot volley to make it 2. A goal kick from heavitree keeper a couple minutes later didn't go far and landed right at OWEN'S feet who thundered a shot right back at goal into the roof of the net for his second. Tivvy were in cruise control now and a great run from GREENSLADE saw him latch onto the ball and strike only for the keeper to save, he hit a rebound which the keeper also saved, this ended in a goalmouth scramble where GREENSLADE fell over but used his innitiative to nod the ball over the line with his head. The second half was much the same with constant tivvy pressure, leaving COLE with little to do in goal. PEKTEMIZ and STONEMAN also had good games pushing forward from defence.STONEMAN finding space well and providing alot of quality balls through and showing great first touch. It wasn't long before half time substitute MESSENGER got a goal when he hammered in from 4 yards. HIDE provided width well and became the provider when he passed 2 defenders and found GREENSLADE who slotted in for his hat-trick. Some great passing from the back came to MESSENGER who turned well and fired in for his second. He should of got a hat-trick too but sky'ed it from 2 yards, but was all smiles after. A heavitree clearance fell to HAMLIN wide on the right who wellied it first time back towards goal and surprised everyone when it landed in the far top corner of the net, his first and well desevered goal this season. And to finish the match in style GREENSLADE took on 2 at the back and cooly slotted in for his 4th and tivvy's 10th. A solid performance from all involved.

TIVVY TOWN 3 V 2 WHIPTON YOUTH

Tivvy went into this game with a little too much confidence from previous games ending in high scores and were suprised to find themselves up against a strong and well organised whipton side. If not for COLE between the sticks whipton could have been 2 up in the first 5 minutes, but he pulled off 2 fantastic saves to keep tivvy in the game. Tivvy were rattled and whipton eventually took advantage midway through the half with a fine finish. The lads now found themselves in a possition they haven't been in for a while and responded excellently with bags of effort and started to carve out some slim chances, OWEN shooting just wide. It was a hard fought first half with everyone on both teams playing well. OWEN working particularly hard in the center of midfield. Just before the half time whistle some great tackling from PEKTEMIZ was the start of a tivvy attack, MESSENGER rolled it through to SCAMPTON who broke free and finished easily past the oncoming keeper. A great first half with the tivvy players coming off knowing they had a hard second half on their hands if they were to continue their good run of games. Fresh legs, HIDE and HAMLIN came on for tivvy for a second half that didn't dissapoint. Whipton again started well with some good passing, but once tivvy won the ball, they passed it superbly through the field with nice 1 and 2 touch football with SCAMPTON eventually pulling the ball square to MESSENGER who side-footed in to go 2-1 up. Tivvy worked hard as a team unit and showed some good passing play with HIDE, OWEN and MESSENGER playing well across the middle. Whipton were not outdone though and soon found a second gear, and after some heavy pressure being dealt with at the back by HAMLIN, PEKTEMIZ and COLE, innevitably whipton got their deserved equaliser to set up a great finish to an entertaining game, 2-2 with about 7 minutes left on the clock. SCAMPTON found his way through but the keeper saved for a corner. The corner was half cleared by whipton and fell to HIDE who hit a super left foot volley toward goal but was unfortunate to hit his own player OWEN in the face, HIDE again hit the rebound with his right this time but fired just over the bar. Soon after SCAMPTON hit a great pass between the keeper and an oncoming MESSENGER, it looked to be the winner when MESSENGER got there first but the keeper made a tremendous save to keep it at 2-2. With 2 minutes left to go an ever battling OWEN won the ball outside the box, shifted it a yard to his right to make room and hit a lovely shot tight in the bottom corner leaving the whipton keeper with no chance. Tivvy worked hard together and held on to take the game with a 3-2 win. A super super game to watch, with the tivvy lads proving yet again that they are a team to be reckoned with.

DAWLISH 0 TIVERTON TOWN 6

Tivvy returned to exeter league action in exminster and were first up against a dawlish side that they drew 1-1 with in a friendly at the start of the season. Tivvy started excellently showing some nice passes and good movement off the ball, and it wasn't long before SCAMPTON fizzed an early shot just wide and HIDE'S left foot shot hit the side netting. The lads continued to press as a team for the whole of the first half, but they found it difficult to outrun or get passed one defender in particular who was strong at the back. At the break tivvy decided the only way through was to play a quick passing game, which when they stepped onto the field they did immediately, putting through GREENSLADE who forced a save from the keeper. Soon after good pressure from the team saw a loose ball fall in front of MESSENGER who nicely curled one in the top corner to break the dead-lock. The confidence ran through all the lads and the next 10 minutes saw an impressive tivvy side showing there capabilities, HAMLIN was excellent picking up loose balls and feeding nice passes while GREENSLADE battled continuously allowing MESSENGER and OWEN to push forward more creating problems for the dawlish back line. OWEN was next on the score sheet when he caught a looping ball with a left foot volley which slid thnrough an unlucky keepers legs. Dawlish responded from this with there only real oppitunity of the game, but keeper COLE pulled off a fine save. GREENSLADE'S pressure paid off shortly after when he got through on goal, but misshit his shot only for MESSENGER to tap in. Shortly after MESSENGER got his hat-trick when a miss-kick from the keeper landed to his feet and he cooly placed it right in the top corner. GREENSLADE again became the provider when he battled and won the ball and crossed it to MESSENGER who hammered home for his 4th, tivvy's 5th. Just before the end, tivvy were not finished and a good ball from STONEMAN found OWEN who slid a nice pass to GREENSLADE who ran through and smashed in the bottom corner to gain a goal for all his efforts. A great display from all lads involved, a pleasure to watch.

Man of the match - GREENSLADE.

Scorers - MESSENGER - 4, OWEN, GREENSLADE.

ST MARTINS 1 TIVERTON TOWN 8

Tivvy were now in fine form from their first game and right from the start prooved too strong for a st martins side who also won their first game. The passing from tivvy was awesome to watch and a couple minutes in paid off when HIDE beat 2 down the left and put a lovely ball in the box, which after a goal mouth scramble was poked in by SCAMPTON. HAMLIN and PEKTEMIZ were solid at the back breaking down anything coming their way. A wide ball from GREENSLADE was hit first time from MESSENGER which left the keeper with no chance. St martins battled back and forced a fine save from COLE with his feet. The resulting corner ended in COLE'S hands and it was from there tivvy broke with the move of the day, COLE kicked wide to GREENSLADE, he passed one and played a crossfield ball to MESSENGER,and with his back to goal flicked a lovely back heel to an overlapping SCAMPTON who hit a square ball first time across the box which was met by GREENSLADE continuing his earlier run and fired in the bottom corner for 3-0. Soon after a good through ball from HAMLIN, who was in total control all game, found GREENSLADE, his shot was saved but the rebound finished by MESSENGER. Just before half time HIDE got himself on the scoresheet using good footwork to make his way through 3 or 4 defenders and struck a powerful shot into the roof of the net. The second half was much the same with everyone playing fantastic, SCAMPTON and MESSENGER forcing good saves from a hard-working st martins goalie. Eventually mid way through the second half HIDE'S shot looked to be goin wide but hit OWEN on the foot and and rolled under the keeper. Tivvy on fire forced another corner, which OWEN took, and when he drove it in the box, SCAMPTON got a touch on it with what looked lie his hip and it went in. St martins managed to get a consolation goal when some sloppy defending let one through leaving COLE with no chance. Again soon after some more great tackling from HAMLIN worked the ball forward, MESSENGER crossed, SCAMPTON connected and hit the post but OWEN was there to pkoe home for tivvy's 8th. Again a great all round team performance with everyone playing brilliantly.

Man of the match - HAMLIN

Scorers - SCAMPTON - 2, MESSENGER - 2, OWEN - 2, HIDE, GREENSLADE.

SIDMOUTH WARRIORS 2 TIVERTON TOWN 1

Tivvy had an early start to travel to a cold sidmouth fixture, but true to there current form the weather didnt fase the lads and they soon settled away from home and got off to a good start, passing the ball really well and creating some close chances early on with SCAMPTON and HIDE coming close. MESSENGER linked up well playing in centre midfield and often fed some nice passes down the line to GREENSLADE who provided good width and crossed well. HIDE showed some good dribbling ability down the left wing, but the warriors held on and closed attacks down well. H.STONEMAN and PEKTEMIZ worked hard to protect keeper COLE. But as play started to open up sidmouth managed to get an early strike at goal and caught COLE off guard to take the lead. This rattled tivvy as they were playing some good football and looked the better of the two teams, so now behind, they turned the screw a lot more and began creating chances which the warriors keeper had to work hard to stop on several occasions. SCAMPTON and GREENSLADE combined to have the better of the chances but GREENSLADE was denied twice. Tivvy came out strong again in the second half and SCAMPTON had a shot hit the post after a deflection. MESSENGER had chances too but the warriors got behind the ball well. COLE was left with little to do but proved good with excellent kicking throughout and picking up loose balls. Once again though against the run of play, the warriors forced a corner which when crossed in hit H.STONEMAN on the knee and left COLE with no chance, 2 nil warriors. Tivvy got their heads up well and continued to play good football, which they were eventually rewarded with when SCAMPTON played the ball wide to MESSENGER who broke into the box and put a super ball back to SCAMPTON again who cheekily side footed it through the keepers legs. They pushed hard for the remainder of the game and again forced two good saves from the warriors keeper. HIDE worked hard up and down the wing all game, getting man of the match for his efforts. Brilliant football throughout, tivvy left feeling the end result not reflecting the good performance.

SIDMOUTH RAIDERS 0 TIVERTON TOWN 4

Tivvy came straight out into the second game continuing there good play and got their deserves when GREENSLADE had a shot blocked but SCAMPTON was sharp to pounce on the rebound and fire home to take the lead. Tivvy kept the pressure on and got their second when MESSENGER hit a low strike from outside the box which took a deflection on the way through a crowded box and ended up in the net. Soon after SCAMPTON broke free again and coolly finished for 3 nil. The raiders came back fighting but H.STONEMAN, PEKTEMIZ and COLE worked well together at the back. This game only looked to be heading for one result with many chances coming for tivvy once again. GREENSLADE again having two shots blocked and SCAMPTON ,HIDE and MESSENGER shooting just wide. Any attack by the warriors was getting broke down by PEKTEMIZ who worked extremely hard at the back not to let anythin past, as he was doing so well it gave H.STONEMAN a chance to push forward and he had a good long shot just saved by the keeper on two occasions. In the second half the game was much the same, PEKTEMIZ faultless in the defence and the rest creating chance after chance. GREENSLADE once again unlucky not to score when he shot just wide. A late corner from SCAMPTON was drilled into the box and hit and unlucky defender aqnd ended in the net for 4 nil. Keeper COLE was excellent with his kicking. PEKTEMIZ was called upon right at the deapth to make a last ditch tackle to help keep his team a clean sheet and earn himself man of the match.Well done team, super football to watch.

TIVVY TOWN 4 WEST HILL WASPS 0

Tivvy looked really up for this game from the start and immediately settled with lots of confidence in possesion, passing and making the ball do the work. They soon broke the deadlock when JAQUES slid a lovely through ball to MESSENGER who struck it hard into the roof of the net. Tivvy played some quality football from then on and the next goal came when OWEN recieved a short corner, cut inside the defender and thumped the ball hard and low past the keeper. West hill started to get themselves into the game but found it hard to break through PEKTEMIZ and HAMLIN who were strong in defence. HIDE broke down the left side with some fine dribbling, played it inside to OWEN who was taken down for a free kick on the edge of the box, OWEN chose to take the kick which was a difficult angle but he found the top corner with a lovely strike to score his second, tivvy's third of the half. West hill tried to push back for a goal again and came close twice only to be denied by COLE who pulled off some fine saves even though he spent most of the half with nothing to do. H.STONEMAN worked hard for the team and was unlucky to put 2 shots just wide. Just before half time it was H.STONEMAN who found MESSENGER on the right who hammered the ball into the top corner for his second. In the second half tivvy made some substitutes and 2 new faces SKAMPTON and GREENSLADE made an their debuts. Both players settled well in the side. GREENSLADE working hard down the right side and SKAMPTON providing attacking power up front. H.STONEMAN was moved back in defence and played well alongside HAMLIN who put in some strong tackles. Tivvy played excellent again in this half but were unlucky not to score, GREENSLADE provided some quality crosses with OWEN, MESSENGER, and SKAMPTON getting on the end of them but the west hill keeper pulled off some fine saves. Tivvy keeper COLE was also called upon again twice when west hill broke but was faultless to keep his clean sheet. A late powerful shot from SKAMPTON was again saved and the game finished 4-0 to tivvy.

TIVVY TOWN 12 BRIXINGTON BLUES 0

Tivvy continued straight into this game with some superb passing, from kick off the passing saw every player touch the ball before SKAMPTON fed a lovely weighted ball to OWEN who finished 1 on 1 with the keeper. As soon as west hill kicked off, SKAMPTON closed down and won the ball, he easily passed 2 defenders and smacked the ball past the oncoming keeper. Another minute passed and HIDE picked up the ball on the left and eventually got a low cross which OWEN side footed into the net. Tivvy became unstoppable and soon they won a penalty when a defender blocked using his hands, SKAMPTON cooly put it in for his second, now on his hat-trick, he hit another shot which struck the post. MESENGER had a good shot blocked before getting another chance which he finished with ease. Tivvy defence began to push forward to get involved as keeper COLE was untroubled. GREENSLADE picked up a loose ball and skipped passed 3 players to get a shot in but was well blocked by the last man. MESENGER scored his second with a good individual goal to put himself, OWEN and SKAMPTON all chasing hat-tricks. HIDE didn't want to be left out and made room for a shot outside the box and with his left foot struck the ball low in off the post. All players were playing super and were excellent to watch, just before half time MESSENGER crossed the ball and OWEN finsihed well for his hat-trick. Tivvy carried on in the second half with lots of chances coming, MESSENGER, HIDE and JAQUES having shots saved. HAMLIN linked up well in a midfield role and forced a corner, which SKAMPTON took and curled in with some pace and it somehow squeezed in at the near post, great goal for his hat-trick. MESSENGER got took down when through on goal for a penalty, he stepped up for his 3rd but the keeper managed to pull off a good save. One attack from brixington saw COLE make a fine save. His kick then found SKAMPTON who hit the ball too hard for the keeper to score his 4th. Soon after kick off tivvy pressed resulting in a goal kick, which, when the keeper thumped to the halway line landed to SKAMPTONS feet who then thumped a shot right back over the stranded keepers head to score his 5th of the game and earning his man of the match in style. With only minutes left on the clock GREENSLADE picked up the ball, passed a player and put a hard cross in which OWEN stretched to gide in with his left toe's, his 4th, tivvy's 12th. a super display from everyone involved.

TIVERTON TOWN 0 SAMPFORD PEVERALL 0

TIVERTON TOWN 2 MOORS BOBCATS 1 messenger, hide.

TIVERTON TOWN 2 MOORS TIGERS 3 owen, own goal.

It was tivvys turn to host the mid Devon league fixtures on sunday 12th and there first opponents were sampford. The last meeting saw these 2 sides draw 1-1 in a very tight game, and on this occasion the 2 were inseparable once again, both teams worked hard in what was an exciting game to watch. Tivvy had a few chances to take the lead in the first half when H.STONEMAN kept finding a gap in the defence but was denied by the keeper. OWEN pulled a shot just wide in the second half and PEKTEMIZ had to clear off the line late on in the game. Good performances from all players involved.

Next up were moors bobcats, tivvy started well in this game and proved too strong for the opposing team, they created lots of chances with great link up play in midfield from OWEN, HIDE and MESSENGER. A great run down the right hand side from OWEN midway through the first half opened a gap for MEESENGER, who lobbed a delightful shot over the keeper and into the net to take the lead. Soon after tivvy broke again, JAQUES played a lovely pass and move with MESSENGER, who then spotted HIDE in space on the left, a perfectly waited pass meant HIDE could strike it first time, and the keeper had no chance when it sailed into the top corner. BUSS, HAMLIN and SAUNDERS worked hard defensively to keep the lead and H.STONEMAN was unlucky not to score in the second half. Moors pulled back a good individual goal but was only a consolation against a well organised tivvy side.

The last game was moors tigers, tivvy again started superbly, with PEKTEMIZ working hard up front and unlucky not to score near the start. Eventually a goal came when OWEN found a gap, used his pace to break free and when one on one with the slid a cheeky side foot shot tight in the corner. Tivvy went forward again, and a great shot/cross from DAVIS resulted in moors scoring an own goal, 2-0 tivvy at half time. This was certainly a game of two halves, as tivvy got tired moors began to find gaps, a few mistakes at the back and moors pounced to eventually score 3 goals in the second half and win the game which looked to be all tivvy's in the first half. The team worked well and also took turns in goal as there normal keeper COLE was on holiday. Perhaps this could have been a different result had he been there and im sure the team will look forward to his return. Keep up the good work tivvy!!

Tiverton Town in Friendly Action September 2008

2 FRIENDLY'S - 28TH SEPTEMBER - TIVERTON TOWN 4 - 3 OKEHAMPTON

TIVERTON TOWN 4 - 1 OKEHAMPTON

Tivvy went on a trip to okehampton for a friendly when the team started to form last season and showed that they would be a great team this season. They won 11-3 on that trip. Now we're into the season, players have gone and new players have come in, and with okehampton building a stronger side, they decided to return the favour and come to tivvy for a couple friendly matches. Tivvy used the full squad of 13 players in these 2 matches and all of them showed the potential they have to be great footballlers.

The first game was a superb matchup and was excellent to watch, BUSS impressed in defence and proved his place in the team, DAWDRY and DAVIS came in and worked well up and down the wings and at the back showing tivvy have a depth of good players in the squad. SAUNDERS and F.STONEMAN played with great effort, digging in deep at times. COLE played excellent between the sticks, showing he is blossoming into a great keeper. HIDE, H.STONEMAN, PEKTEMIZ and JAQUES continuing to show their class and capabilities they possess for the rest of the season. OWEN worked hard as normal and yet again got himself on the score sheet with a great individual run and super strike. But it was MESSENGER who stole the limelight in the first game, playing from a midfield possition he worked hard, went on great runs, and managed to bag himself a hat-trick with all 3 goals being of good quality. A good display from tivvy ending in a 4-3 win.

Goalscorers - MESSENGER(3), OWEN.

The second game was also a great match, but tivvy proved too strong. Okehampton were first to score but soon started to tire. All tivvy players worked equally as hard and got their deserves when F.STONEMAN put a nice pass to OWEN who finished with quality, soon after he netted a second which put tivvy 2-1 up. HIDE got himself on the score sheet striking the ball into the top corner with power from some distance out. Tivvy played some lovely football throughout this game and was good to watch. COLE made some excellent saves in goal and would probably have stole the show if it wasn't for the last five minutes. Tivvy pushed PEKTEMIZ up front from defence as he wanted a goal on his birthday (ha). The tivvy players helped, trying to set him up only for the keeper to save on 2 occasions. But with seconds left on the clock PEKTEMIZ had the last laugh as he won the ball about 20 yards from goal and rifled an amazing strike into the bottom corner leaving the goalie with no chance, great birythday gift!! Well done tivvy, another great display ending 4 - 1. Goalscorers - OWEN(2), HIDE, PEKTEMIZ.

Tiverton Town in Exter & District League Action September 2008

Stoke hill juniors 4 - 3 Tiverton town

Tivvy travelled to exeter for their first two games of the exeter youth league season. First up were Stoke hill. Tivvy started this game well and soon settled away from home, with a good chance coming at the start for MESSENGER but the keeper saved well. It was a good battle between 2 evenly matched teams. Eventually it was tivvy who broke the deadlock after a nice through ball from H.STONEMAN put OWEN one on one with the keeper and he placed it into the bottom corner with ease, Stoke hill came back strong and after a good move they managed to get an equaliser before the break. Substitute JAQUES came on at half time and made immediate effect with strong breaks down the right hand side, one of which resulted in a goalmouth scramble where HIDE managed to squeeze the ball in off the post to take the lead. Again Stoke hill came back strong and scored a great equaliser, leaving keeper COLE with no chance. The game looked like it was heading for a draw but as players tired, gaps began to open up and it was Stoke hill who took the lead this time with a powerful strike. Tivvy not to be outdone continued to push, strong battling from PEKTEMIZ and SAUNDERS resulted in the ball breaking to MESSENGER who pulled a nice pass back to OWEN who once again struck a lovely shot into the roof of the net to make it 3-3. Excellent play continued from both teams, HIDE went on a good run and was taken down for a free kick outside the box, MESSENGER stepped up and lobbed a lovely shot over the wall, lookin like it was heading for a winner but the stoke keeper was relieved to see it strike the bar. Tivvy's strong tackling in the dying minutes resulted in a free kick for Stoke hill about 20 yards out, and with the final seconds ticking down, the Stoke player smashed an unstoppable shot right in the top corner to win the game, an unlucky result for a hard working tivvy side.

Goalscorers - OWEN(2),HIDE.

Westexe youth 3 - tivvy 6

Tivvy regrouped with a ten minute break, and showed that they were not to go home without a win. They kicked off the game and immediately went on the break with MESSENGER coming close twice. Tivvy were playing some great football and eventually took the lead when HIDE latched onto a loose ball and fired home. Westexe battled back well but tivvy were too strong and went 2 nil up when JAQUES fed a great pass across and OWEN side footed past the stranded keeper. Tivvy keeper COLE was left on his own for much of the first half but when westexe did break he made a fine one on one save to deny them a goal, resulting it a corner, it was from the corner that HIDE battled to win the ball and went off on a run, he skipped past a couple westexe players with tivvy players screaming for the ball, but he went on and passed another, and another, and then with only the keeper to beat, he cooly placed the ball to the keepers right to finish a lovely individual goal. Tivvy kept up the pressure with defenders H.STONEMAN and PEKTEMIZ pushing forward to increase the chances. JAQUES worked hard up front making some superb runs and was finally rewarded when SAUNDERS found him with a good pass and he finished it off easily. Half time came with tivvy leading 4-0 and the game looking sewn up, but from the second half Westexe caught tivvy sleeping and managed to pull one back. Immediately tivvy replied when MESSENGER went through 2 defenders and cheakily slid the ball through the oncoming goalies legs. Westexe pushed back and showed they didnt tire easily and through some confusion between COLE and his defence they nicked another 2 goals on the trot, one of which was a lucky deflection looping over the stranded COLE. Tivvy finished the game off in style, showing some great passing and pushing westexe right back, when they did manage to break COLE began to show what he is capable of, producing some fine saves. Before the final whistle came OWEN showed his class again and thumped in a rebound to score his 2nd of the game, 4th on the day. This was an excellent 6-3 win for tivvy after loosing their previous match. Goalscorers HIDE(2), OWEN(2), MESSENGER, JAQUES.

Game 2: TIVERTON TOWN - 1 VS 1 - TWYFORD messenger.

Game 3: TIVERTON TOWN - 1 VS 1 - SAMPFORD PEVERELL owen.

Tivvy got their mid devon league season off to a start with 3 games sunday. First up were moors bobcats. Tivvy started well and soon settled into their passing game, alot of the play being led by OWEN playing in centre of midfield, linking up with HIDE and MESSENGER who provided width. Moors were first to have a shot at goal, but were denied by COLE playing between the sticks. Further moors attacks were stopped by a solid PEKTEMIZ and HAMLIN who protected their goalie well. It was a great pass from HAMLIN to OWEN who then slid a great pass through to put H.STONEMAN one on one with the keeper, and he finished with ease. Soon after the break a big kick from COLE found its way through to OWEN who took on the last man with pace and slotted home for 2-0. MESSENGER went on a great run taking on 3 players but pulled it just wide. HIDE battled hard which paid off when he latched onto a loose ball and fired into the bottom corner. Subs SAUNDERS and JAQUES linked up well when they came on. And in the closing minutes COLE denied mooors a consolation goal, tipping over after the ball took a wicked deflection on the way through.

The second game against twyford involved new faces as the tivvy squad continues to grow. Twyford got off to a good start, but tivvy wouldn't break with BUSS working hard in defence. PEKTEMIZ also making several blocks. DAWDRY and DAVIS worked well with SAUNDERS in midfield to push tivvy forward. JAQUES coming close with some good dribbling skills. Tivvy were pushed with COLE making great saves but eventually twyford broke the deadlock with a well worked goal. Tivvy, not to be outdone come back strong with big effort from F.STONEMAN. Half time subs MESSENGER, HIDE and OWEN helped push tivvy forward. It was HIDE who broke free, but was soon taken down by the last defender, MESSENGER picked up the loose ball and played the advantage to beat the keeper with confidence. COLE was put to work again, saving another one on one to keep us level.

The third game saw tivvy up against a strong lookin sampford side. Tivvy started well with their ability to pass the ball around. MIDWAY through an evenly matched first half, OWEN picked up the ball out wide, cut inside onto his right foot and thumped a shot into the top corner. Sampford managed to work an equaliser. This opened the game up and forced some excellent defending again from HAMLIN and PEKTEMIZ. Tivvy came close with H.STONEMAN shooting just wide from distance. At the beginning of the second half JAQUES broke down the right wing with some awesome footwork, taking on 2 players and pulling a lovely pass across to OWEN who struck first time only for the keeper to parry. DAWDRY made a good block, and DAVIS, BUSS and COLE worked hard to deny sampford a winner. A draw seemed a fair result.

Tiverton Town v Yeovil Town 27th August 2008

Tivvy Town U8s faced their biggest challenge yet against a strong Yeovil Town side. In game one the Tivvy side battled well but had few clear cut opportunities themselves and went in 1-0 down at half time. Yeovil scored two more goals in the second half despite a spirited defensive performance from the yellows. All three Yeovil goals were well struck efforts leaving Bailey Cole with no chance in goal.

In the break between the two games Tivvy Town regrouped and went out for the second game with fresh determination. Half way through the first half a breakaway from the Tivvy midfield presented Michael Owen with an opportunity to open the scoring and he finished well, shooting low to the Yeovil Goalkeeper's right hand side. The Tivvy side grew in confidence with the goal and shortly after crafted a second opportunity, this time for Harry Stoneman who's shot was well saved by the Yeovil keeper. The Tivvy side showed their determination to hold onto their well deserved lead.

Bailey Cole made a number of excellent saves to deny the Yeovil side. The Tivvy side battled tirelessly up to the final whistle to earn a well deserved 1-0 victory.
