Crediton 0 v 6 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League - April 2010
On a narrow pitch Tiverton started well and looked well in control from the off the only threat was the long ball which was expertly dealt with by Tiverton's Hollie Stone. Ten minutes Leah Burridge fantastically squeezed a tidy pass through the Crediton back line for Paige Longworth - Wakeham to run onto and cooly slot past the goalkeeper. The lead was soon doubled and it was again Longworth - Wakeham after Courtney Butt's cross was fired against the post by top goalscorer Chloe Williams and it was the pint sized striker who reacted quickest. The goal of the game was to shortly follow when quick distribution from Karin Underwood to Hollie Stone seen a long ball set back first time to Burridge by Longworth - Wakeham and Burridge's pinpoint cross was fantastically controlled and volleyed in the roof of Crediton's net by Chloe Williams. Burridge was constantly finding space in the midfield role and another moment of brilliance from Longworth - Wakeham seen her again intelligently set the ball for Burridge to rifle the ball into the bottom right hand corner. Tiverton's pressure continued and the hard working Billie Denny helped Stone shut any danger out and just before the break Hollie Seatherton fired just wide of the post.
More of the same was produced from the young yellows in the second half but a more organised Crediton were harder to break down and chances from Courtney Butt, Grace Melluish and Hollie Seatherton well saved by Crediton's keeper. The re introduction of the lively Longworth - Wakeham was what was needed to get Tiverton on the score sheet again and a fantastic individual effort seen the ball fly into the top right hand corner. Solid defending and hard work made Tiverton impossible to break down and the sixth and final goal was scored by Butt from a Billie Denny cross, well dummied by Williams and confidently finished by Butt.
Today's result means Tiverton Win league with one game remaining. The Yellows next action is when they will be on tour at the Easter & Spring Festival of Football in Butlins Minehead.
Phoenix Club 1 v 9 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League - April 2010
Tiverton started extremely well after visiting Phoenix for the second time in 4 days. Right from the start Chloe Williams got the first goal of the game off of a free kick from Hollie Stone, seconds later Williams rifled a shot from 20 yards only to deflect off a Phoenix defender which sent the goal keeper in the wrong direction. It was then Courtney Butts turn to get her name on the score sheet when picking up the ball from Stone and running at pace with the ball at her feet to strike the ball into the back of the nett. The hard working Leah Burridge got her only goal of the game through sheer determination when picking up the ball from a goal kick and floating the ball out to Billie Denny who managed to get her cross into the box for Burridge to finish. Hollie Seatherton done extremely well first half after missing a couple of weeks due to sickness coming close numerous times. Tiverton keeper Karin Underwood was again very alert when Phoenix managed to break through to pull off a couple of great saves. She was always looking for the early ball to lone defender Stone. The sheer pace of Paige Longworth-Wakeham caused Phoenix full backs problems all game. The first half finished 4-0.
The second half was even better than the first when the girls started to play the ball around the park switching play and getting the ball out wide to the likes of Butt and Denny, who both caused more problems going forward . Butt got her second goal of the game by taking on two players and using Burridge for a one two to side foot into the goal. The next pass of play was the best Stuart Burridge and Chad Gribble had ever seen on a football pitch five passes from the half way line all one touch before it eventually fell to Williams "It was like watching Barcelona". At this point Phoenix completely lost shape and Williams secured her second hattrick in four days. The re-entry of Seatherton only through hard work also got her name on the score sheet by getting a couple of individual goals which was deserved. There was a consolation goal for Phoenix when Tiverton pushed forward leaving the break on for Phoenix to get their goal. Denny was also very unlucky not to get her name on the score sheet when she came close in the second half.
Tiverton who have now scored 105 league goals and still only conceded 8 is left with 2 games to play can secure the league by just getting a point at Crediton next week, with still Twyford to come in early May.
Manager Stuart Burridge believes he has the got the best squad of girls who all play for one another and are looking forward to their Butlins Tour in two weeks when hopefully we can continue to keep the standard of football to the highest quality.
Thanks again to the travelling supporters who continue to support the team week in week out.
Unfortunately Stuart & Chad have been finding it very difficult to pick girl of the match recently as they have all played extremely well and are proud of them all. WELL DONE GIRLS
Phoenix Club 1 v 11 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League - April 2010
Tiverton travelled to Phoenix in the first of two games being played within 4 days. Phoenix who are currently second from bottom and Tiverton flying high at the top of the table which they have been from the start of the season.
Right from the start Tiverton pressed forward to get the first goal of the evening, to whom Paige Longworth-Wakeham found the back of the net from a corner which was well taken from Courtney Butt. Seconds later Hollie ' Rocky' Stone playing in her usual role as a lone defender managed to charge forward with the ball at her feet to slam it into the back of the net. It was only going to be a matter of time when the flood gates opened and more goals were to come.
Paige got her second and shortly after Leah Burridge picked up a ball from Billie Denny on the edge of the box taking on a defender and striking it with her left foot to put past the keeper. A joint partnership of Chloe Williams and Paige was causing problems for the Phoenix defence, eventually Chloe was to get her first of 3 goals with some good foot work around the box to finish. Courtney also got herself on the score sheet with a couple of goals which again included all team members taking part from back to front.
Second half started much the same all Tiverton with Karin Underwood not having to make a single save in the first half but was switched on early second half when Phoenix attacked, got past Stone only to put the ball over the cross bar. Denny also got herself on the score sheet from another corner. Burridge got her second of the game with a individual goal, running at the defence and putting it past the Phoenix keeper. Eventually Phoenix broke through the defence when we held a high line to get the first goal of their game. On a whole todays game was played by a well organised Tiverton Town side and the organisation skills of Captain Leah Burridge.
Goal scorers: Williams 3, Burridge 2, Butt 2, Longworth-Wakeham 2, Stone 1, Denny 1
Tiverton U13 Girls 1 v 1 Exmouth Amateurs - Devon Girls League - April 2010
On a day when Tiverton had just 6 players which included Hollie Stone carrying a bad injury and having to play, we entertained Exmouth Amateurs in the Devon Girls Football League.
With a change to team structure many players had to play out of position. From the start Exmouth applied plenty of pressure taking full advantage of Tivertons side. Straight away Stone at centre half found herself marking 2 Exmouth players, it was down to Leah Burridge, Paige Longworth-Wakeham and Courtney Butt to take control of the midfield. With Billie Denny playing a lone striker. Tiverton eventually got the ball down and started to make some really good moves and even 1 or 2 shots on goal. 20 minutes into the first half Stone was really struggling and had to be taken off for treatment which then left Tiverton with 5 players for the remainder of the half. Through pure grit and determination Tiverton came in at half time 0-0, which was a well welcomed break.
Second Half saw a change in the team again by putting Stone up front Burridge centre half and Denny into midfield. Tiverton started to make things happen by controlling the game with constant pressure going forwards but unfortunately not being able to get a shot on goal. 15 minutes into the second half Tiverton corner was played short from Butt to Denny who fired the ball into a mass of players within the box which deflected off an Exmouth player to end up in the back of the nett 1 - 0 Tiverton. From kick off Exmouth really started to apply more pressure making the extra player count coming close on several occassions Karin Underwood with her outstanding goal keeping was kept busy making four or five 1 on 1 shot stopping saves. Eventually came the break for Exmouth through a well worked cross which came off and Exmouth face only to be put into the back of the nett making it 1 - 1.
Tiverton came close again with a well worked move from defence into midfield then to find the struggling Stone upfront where she managed to get a shot on goal only to hit the post and bounce on the line.
Tiverton continued to work extremely hard. In the last 5 minutes it was all Exmouth with Burridge having to pick up 2 players which she did extremely well. Denny, Longworth-Wakeham and Butt were making their tackles count in the midfield. Stone managed to get a shot on goal only for the Exmouth keeper to scramble out for a corner.
Final score 1 - 1.
Manager Stuart Burridge & Coach Chad Gribble were so proud of the amount of effort the girls put in today , 1 word for the performance to day, 'INSPIRATIONAL'. Well done to all of the girls they are a credit to Tiverton Town Football Club and their parents.
We could not choose a girl of the match today as the whole team worked very hard from front to back. Well done Girls.
Twyford Spartans 0 v 10 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League - March 2010
Chloe Williams fired home five goals to take her tally to 30 for the season and to keep Tiverton Town top of the Devon Girls League. The Yellows visited local rivals Twyford Spartans who Tiverton confertably beat 16 - 0 earlier in the season but with Spartans having some fresh faces in their squad this game was expected to be much closer.
Tiverton started well and took control early and with Leah Burridge playing a new role just behind lone striker Williams there was always an outlet for the midfield three of Eloise Cresswell, Courtney Butt and Grace Melluish to find. It wasn't long before Tiverton had the lead and it came from the hard working Cresswell winning a tackle finding the creative Burridge who thread the ball through to Williams who fired low and hard to the keepers right. Tiverton continued to pressure and after a long range Cresswell effort was well saved by Twyfords keeper to resulting corner was perfectly delivered by Courtney Butt for Williams to head home. It was only a matter of time before Williams had her hatrick after good defending from the solid Hollie Stone and a pinpoint long ball left Williams free to put Tiverton 3 - 0 up. Five minutes before the break Courtney Butt produced a fine individual run to smash home Tiverton's fourth and give them a good lead at half time.
Butt and Tiverton came out of the traps the same way they finished the finished the first half and soon had a 5th through Butt's great feet and finish. The introduction of Maggie Andrews in a forward role produced another outlet for Tiverton and Billie Denny twice found Andrews with great balls only for Andrews to be outdone by the keeper. Chloe Williams soon got her forth and Tiverton's sixth and this followed with Tiverton's best goal a long throw from Stone was set first time by Williams for Butt to half volley into the roof of the net from the edge of the box to claim her hatrick. Paige Longworth - Wakehams hard work soon paid off with a great finish before Twyford's Alice Butler had a great effort equally matched by Tiverton keeper Karin Underwood before Williams grabbed her 5th and Eloise Cresswell finished off the scoring with Tiverton's 10th.
Russ Murch today chose girl of the game as Chloe Williams for her eye for goal and ability to turn and run at oppenentsTiverton U13 Girls 5 v 0 Exmouth Amateurs - Devon Girls League - March 2010
Tiverton today faced Exmouth who they went away to early in the season and comfortably beat 8 - 0 but that was on a day the yellows were firing on all cylinders and the ammies couldn't get of 1st gear. Today would be different and was going to be no easy task for the league leaders.
Tiverton started very slowly yet still somehow managed to carve out some chances and and early Courtney Butt cross seen Chloe Williams only denied by the post. An energetic Exmouth side made sure after 18 minutes of play the score was still 0 - 0 but fortunately for Tiverton on a day they weren't performing to their best, like great sides do they still managed to keep tight at the back and dig deep and attempt to take any half chance that came their way. Just as the game was getting flatter and flatter a Leah Burridge through ball managed to squeeze its way through to leading goalscorer Chloe Williams who got the slightest of touches on the ball on her half turn which managed to deceive the Exmouth debutant goalkeeper and end up in the back of the net. Everyone now expected Tiverton's tails to lift and them to take advantage of the slow pace of the game but they carried on doing just what was needed and a fantastic Hollie Stone half volley from inside her own half again took a awkward bounce in front of the keeper and gave Tiverton 2 - 0 lead at half time that was not entirely deserved.
Changes at half time seen Grace Melluish replace Paige Longworth - Wakeham and Billie Denny replace Courtney Butt with Tiverton attempting a different approach to make the most of in the coaching staffs eyes a great chance to react to a poor first half. The yellows tempo was slightly raised and they soon lead by three but again an unfortunate goalkeeping error from Exmouth gifted Burridge her goal as she struck low and hard for the keeper to fumble into her net. The re introduction of Longworth - Wakeham seemed to wake Tiverton up in the remaining ten minutes where a Eloise Cresswell cross to Burridge seen the shot cannon off the keeper for Longworth - Wakeham to react first scoring Tiverton's 4th but 1st deserved goal of the game and with minutes remaining Cresswell again provided for Longworth - Wakeham to round the keeper get her second and seal a 5 - 0 victory for the Yellows.
Plainmoor Girls 1 v 4 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League - February 2010
Chloe Williams fired in her second hatrick in two weeks as Tiverton remain top of the Devon Girls Youth League. Tiverton travelled to face a Plainmoor side who are the only other side in the league to beat reigning champions Ashmoor Ladies. Although the yellows already had two comfortable victories over the Torquay based side this season they knew this was going to be no easy task.
Tiverton started slowly but somehow found themselves on top of the game and playing with a high line managing to carve out early chances beating the Plainmoor back line with one simple ball. Chloe Williams, Paige Longworth - Wakeham and Courtney Butt all seen efforts saved by the Plainmoor keeper in the first ten minutes. Tiverton's constant pressure would surely pay off and soon enough it did after fantastic defending from Hollie Stone leaving her to find an open Leah Burridge whose long range effort was well followed up and tapped in by the lively Williams. It now looked as if the floodgates would open but Plainmoor re-adjusted and found themselves dealing with the long ball towards Williams as well as craving out opportunities for themselves and thanks to some organized defending by Hollie Stone and Grace Melluish keeping the ball out of Tiverton's net. The introduction of Billie Denny on the left changed the complex of the game and Tiverton began to settle, play keep ball and frustrate Plainmoor but their was not enough time to add a second before the break.
The second half seen some more encouraging passages of play from the young yellows and they soon led 2 - 0 after quick thinking and great distribution from Karin Underwood to find Courtney Butt wide on the left hand side leaving Butt to travel into the space and attack her opponent who she beat with ease and squared the ball to the on running Williams who had the easiest of tap ins. Denny and Burridge continued to work well as a pair and after a corner was plucked from the head of the Plainmoor attacker and distributed quickly again and Tiverton were able to gain a 3 goal lead as Denny brought the ball down, found Burridge who perfectly threaded Williams through and she confidently beat the last defender and fired in her hatrick. With Tiverton 3 - 0 up Longworth - Wakeham replaced Melluish and the yellows opted to go two up front to try to gain some more goals to add to their fantastic goal difference and they did exactly this as Butt continued to terrorize her opponent and this time went alone to smash home her 23rd goal of the season and Tivertons 4th. With five minutes remaining the yellows were unfortunately caught off guard and left 3 vs. 1 at the back and were punished by Plainmoor's Lucy Pritchard but time was against Plainmoor and the final whistle went to leave Tiverton with a 4 - 1 win.
Once again a fantastic team effort on a heavy pitch found it too hard to select a girl of the game so the award goes to the team for a great team display.
The young yellows are out of action next week but return the following week home to Ashmoor Ladies where much support would be appreciated.
Ashmoor Ladies 0 v 4 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League Cup Semi Final - February 2010
Today Tiverton faced an eagerly awaited League Cup Semi Final away to Ashmoor Ladies. The two sides have already met twice in the league this season both having a win each under their belts and both boast 100% win records on home turf. Today's winners would face Exmouth Amateurs in the Final.
Tiverton started the brighter of the two sides and used wide players Courtney Butt and Grace Melluish to their advantage who both constantly looked to beat their opponents and get their crosses in for lone striker Chloe Williams. Tiverton were patient and played some tidy one and two passing moves and after ten minutes of play a lost ball picked up by Leah Burridge was threaded through to Courtney Butt who put a perfectly weighted cross into the path of the on running Grace Melluish who was only denied by the post. Tiverton continued pressurising and a long range Eloise Cresswell effort was handled in the Ashmoor area and it now looked like Tiverton would surely take the lead. Burridge confidently stepped up but seen her well struck penalty equally matched by the Ashmoor keeper. This slightly lifted Ashmoor's tails but any pressure was easily dealt with by Hollie Stone and Eloise Cresswell as well as Karin Underwood who demonstrated perfectly the keeper sweeper role. Burridge, Butt and Melluish continued to carve out opportunities and Chloe Williams was twice denied by the keeper and came close with a volley which just went wide. Twenty minutes in Tiverton's determination paid off when Eloise Cresswell played a ball down the line for Butt to once again deliver a perfect cross for Melluish to run onto and this time she made no mistake and tucked the ball underneath the keeper with a well struck half volley to put Tiverton 1 - 0 up at the break.
The second half seen Tiverton start where they left off and it wasn't long before the lead was doubled when a fantastic move from Grace Melluish allowed her space to square the ball for Chloe Williams who confidently fired past the keeper. Tiverton now stepped up another gear and the the Melluish was replaced by tricky winger Paige Longworth - Wakeham who made an immediate impact turning her opponent and switching for Butt to again deliver a cross for williams who had a touch to beat her player and smashed home into the top left hand corner. At 3 - 0 Tiverton still weren't finished and soon added a forth where this time Longworth - Wakeham got a great left footed cross in for Williams to smash home her second half hatrick and seal a place in the final and a 4 - 0 win for the yellows.
In Tiverton's best display of the season the coaching staff decided no individual girl of the game would be given due to every player performing to the best of their ability.
Bideford Blues & Appledore 1 v 4 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon County Cup Round 3 - January 2010
Today Tiverton Town Under 13's Girls faced their toughest test yet. An eagerly awaited Devon County Cup game away to Bideford Blues & Appledore. This was not only the first time the young yellows had to play 11 a side football but they were playing in the Under 14s County Cup meaning the side they would they face today were a age group above their normal opponents.
Tiverton started the brighter of the two and threw the Bideford manager out slightly by going with a 3-5-2 formation aiming to dominate in midfield and spread the ball out wide as much as possible. Tiverton created some early chances and had 80% of possession with the midfield three of Leah Burridge, Eloise Cresswell and Maggie Andrews working hard to win tackles and pick up second balls and then cleverly either picking out target player Chloe Williams or finding wide players Courtney Butt and Paige Longworth - Wakeham who both showed fantastic ability to beat their players and get their crosses in. After some constant Tiverton pressure the first corner of the game came where Centre Back Hollie Stone went up and a large clearance from Bideford left Tiverton 2 v 2 at the back where they got punished against the run of play to see their selves 1 - 0 down. Tiverton needed a reaction and with Captain Leah Burridge rallying her troops they got exactly that when the hard working Maggie Andrews won a 50/50 ball which fell to Eliose Creswell who fantastically picked put the run of Courtney Butt to leave her one on one with the keeper and she made no mistake getting the equaliser. This raised Tiverton's confidence, shook the nerves out of them and they then began to comfortably control the game and ten minutes before the break a great Leah Burridge through ball put Chloe Williams in where she out paced the defender and fantastically drove the ball past the keeper to give Tiverton a 2 - 1 lead. The pressure continued and any Bideford attack was easily dealt with by the back 3 of Billie Denny, Hollie Stone and debutant Grace Melluish.
The second half seen even more pressure put on by the Yellows which earned a corner taken by Courtney Butt, the corner was cleared and landed perfectly for a Burridge volley and everyone is still wondering how the goalkeeper managed to keep it out of the top corner. Tiverton continued to attack and Bideford started to tire. and Eloise Cresswell took advantage of Burridge playing the holding roll and began to get the ball and drive at the opponents, she soon found herself in large spaces and exploited one perfectly and unleashed a bullet from 25 yards giving the keeper no chance and putting Tiverton 3 - 1 up. With 10 minuets remaining Tiverton changed keepers from Karin Underwood who had a solid game to Keeley Seatherton as well as dropping Burridge back into centre back with Stone and Williams back into midfield to play out the remainder of the game in a 4-5-1 formation. A counter attack break seen a great ball played by Melluish down the line for Hollie Seatherton to beat the defender, round the keeper and take that extra touch which unluckily allowed a defender to nip it off her toe just before she struck for goal. Tiverton continued to soak up anything thrown at them and a long Keeley Seatherton kick seen lone striker Paige Longworth - Wakeham have to gamble, beat 2 defenders and the keeper and didint she do it in style, sidestepping both defenders and getting the ball back on her left where she confidently rolled the ball past the keeper to wrap the game up with a 4 - 1 scoreline. The girls chose girl of the game today and voted debutant Grace Melluish to take the award for her fantastic work rate, hard tackling and never say die attitude.
Next week sees the Yellows play the Quarter final of the competition against the Winners of Phoenix Club v Ottery St Mary.
Crediton 0 v 11 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League December 2009
Tiverton girls had a real test today as they travelled to Crediton to find a very long, wet pitch where football was clearly going to be difficult to play. Today was going to be a battle, very hard work and the team who done this well would get the result.
Tiverton started fantastically, they looked bright when they had the ball, tried to play where they could and battled hard and reacted when they lost the ball. After around ten minutes of constant Tiverton pressure Chloe Williams slipped a perfectly weighted through ball to Hollie Seatherton who smashed Tiverton into the lead. It didn't take long for the floodgates to open Courtney Butt found a lot of space on the right and took advantage of that running to the edge of box and driving the ball underneath the keeper. Chloe Williams then began to drop deep to receive the ball and started running at players and began to look like she could meet everyones high expectations and she didn't disappoint scoring two quick fire goals before providing Hollie Seatherton her second. The front two of Williams and Seatherton continued linking up well and constantly received great service from the midfield players of Billie Denny, Leah Burridge, Paige Longworth - Wakeham and Courtney Butt and with this service Williams grabbed herself two more before half time the first latching onto a Paige Longworth - Wakeham ball and confidently slotting past the keeper and the second came from a great Burridge switch to Billie Denny who's amazing Fifa Street touch set Williams to smash past the keeper. Tiverton still needed to be switched on at the back as demonstrated by lone defender Hollie Stone and goalkeeper Karin Underwood who comfortably dealt with any danger.
The second half seen Williams start the way she finished the first half again receiving on the half turn and running at her opponent she grabbed her fifth and Tiverton's eighth. After a great Leah Burridge effort was spilled by the Crediton keeper Paige Longworth - Wakeham was sharp enough to react and finished well with her left foot and two minutes later got her second with her right foot. The scoring was rounded off with Williams's sixth goal which she driven in from the edge of the box. Girl of the game today went to Chloe Williams for a great work rate and a fantastic individual performance which made alot of people notice her today and comment however this was in the managements eyes Tiverton's finest team performance of the season.
Tiverton U13 Girls 12 v 0 Phoenix - Devon Girls League October 2009
Tiverton by no means faced an easy task today at home to Pheonix, a team the yellows knew little about and after loosing their first ever game last week this was a test of the girls and managements reactions. Tiverton got off to a flyer with Courtney Butt re finding the form that looked to be dipping last week and she fired in a fantastic hatrick in the first ten minutes. All three goals were typical Butt goals where she attacked the full back at full pace, beat them comfortably and rolled underneath the keeper.
Tiverton found Pheonix concentrating so much on marking Butt they left a huge gap out on the left which Eloise Cresswell expertly exploited, ball were switched to Cresswell from Butt and Leah Burridge and it wasn't long before Cresswell notched up Tiverton's fourth by running into a 10 yard space left by Pheonix and unleashing a superb long drive which kept rising until it hit the underside of the crossbar and nestled in the back of the net. Burridge and Cresswell were then beginning to receive short passes after Hollie Stone's solid defending and Burridge scored one of her fantastic long range efforts to make it 5. Again in the thick of all the play were Eloise Cresswell and Leah Burridge and some tidy football between the two left Cresswell again to hit a unbelievable strike which almost knocked the goalkeeper in the back of her net. With 5 minutes remaining until half time Tiverton let no pressure off at all and Butt grabbed a seventh and her fourth and then turned provider for Chloe Williams who used her intelligent strikers instinct to get on the end of Butt's deep cross and fire home. Tiverton could have made it nine before half time after Billie Denny threaded a fantastic ball through to Maggie Andrews who just couldn't squeeze the ball past the keeper.
Tiverton came out in the second half and carried on where they started off and if not for some fantastic goalkeeping from Phoenix's gloves girl the score could have been much higher. It however took the re - introduction of Cresswell before Tiverton scored again this time a tidy one two with Paige Longworth - Wakeham left Cresswell one on one with the keeper where she coolly tucked away. No win is complete without Tiverton's creative attacking midfielder Paige Longworth - Wakeham getting her name on the scoresheet and a delicate chip from Billie Denny let her in with the chance and as per usual Longworth - Wakeham made no mistake and gave Tiverton double digits. There was still time for another individual effort from Courtney Butt to make it eleven and the day was wrapped up by Chloe Williams after a great through ball by Burridge allowed Williams to confidently slide the ball past the rushing keeper.
All in all a great reaction to last week. Girl of the game today goes to Eloise Cresswell for a fantastic hatrick and for expertly exploiting the space on the left she was given.
Ashmoor 3 v 0 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League October 2009
Tiverton had their hardest task yet as they faced Ashmoor Ladies away where no team has gone before and won. Tiverton's day could get no worse, they turned up in adequate time for a warm up and another game was still being played on the pitch which left Tiverton only 5 minutes for a warm up. Prolific striker Chloe Williams had to start from the bench due to bad illness as well as keeper Karin Underwood not feeling 100% but playing through the pain barrier. Ashmoor started the stronger and looked like they wanted the three points more than the young yellows. It wasn't long until they broke the deadlock after a long ball in the box was failed to be cleared by the Tiverton back line and was pounced on by an Ashmoor attacker. Tiverton's heads dropped and they failed to react and Ashmoor camped in their half and were patient and the scoreline could have been higher if not for some good goalkeeping from Karin Underwood. Five minutes before half time Tiverton conceded again after Tiverton failed to react to a lost ball and two players were left one on one with Underwood and a simple square ball was easy for Ashmoor to tap in.
Half time talk from the Tiverton coaching staff had to motivate Tiverton and still make them believe they had the ability to win the game and that they were good players. A immediate reaction from Tiverton happened and they began to cause Ashmoor problems like everyone knew they could. Courtney Butt beat two players and hit the bar and Paige Longworth - Wakeham rattled the post twice and Tiverton could now see it was not going to be their day especially when Underwood made a save which was allegedly out her box resulting in a free kick which Ashmoor scored from to make the scoreline 3 - 0.
Credit must go to Ashmoor for being the better team on the day but credit must go to Tiverton's second half performance for showing grit and determination and the will to play and give everything for the badge on their shirt.
Girl of the game is a joint award and goes to Paige Longworth - Wakeham and Leah Burridge.
Tiverton U13 Girls 12 v 0 Crediton - Devon Girls League October 2009
It was a slow start from Tiverton which is unusual but they proved to be the superb passing outfit they are by just keeping the ball and making Crediton chase and tire. It took almost ten minuets for the deadlock to be broken and it went Tiverton’s way. A well rehearsed delivery from Courtney Butt found the prolific Paige Longworth – Wakeham who side foot volleyed past the keeper. Two more goals followed in quick succession, the first from a long range left footed drive from Billie Denny whose recent performances earned her a starting place today and the second from Courtney Butt who turned her marker and hit from distance whilst on the turn to watch the ball nestle in the top left hand side of the Crediton net. Tiverton continued to pressure Crediton and certain passages of play seen even lone Defender Hollie Stone stepping into the Crediton half to join the attack. The forth was soon to follow when a tidy one – two between Chloe Williams and Courtney Butt seen Williams in on the goalkeeper to fire hard and low to make the scoreline 4 – 0 to Tiverton. Tiverton then seen the in form Paige Longworth – Wakeham find the net again after a long range Leah Burridge effort bobbled through to Longworth – Wakeham who made no mistake. Two minutes later Longworth – Wakeham completed her first half hatrick after a fantastic Billie Denny through ball split the Crediton defence open for Longworth – Wakeham to tuck under the keeper. With only a minute left till half time Tiverton still found time to get another and it was again Longworth – Wakeham who perfectly converted Courtney Butt’s corner with a fine right footed Volley.
Tiverton went in the second half and let no pressure off at all even with the scoreline already 7 – 0 some fantastic interplay from Burridge and Longworth – Wakeham put Chloe Williams through to make it 8 – 0. Burridge then found herself in a much more advanced position and with no option unleashed a fierce strike from just inside the Crediton Half that left the keeper no chance as the ball kept rising until it hit the top right hand corner. Hollie Stone then scored a carbon copy of Leah Burridge’s goal by intercepting a long ball, gaining 5 yards into the Crediton half and letting unleash a thunderbolt of a strike that again flew into the top right hand corner. Eloise Cresswell was the second half outlet and time and time again she received the ball wide and delivered inch perfect crosses, one which Chloe Williams headed over the stranded keeper only to see the ball bounce off the top of the crossbar, and another which Paige Longworth – Wakeham smashed against the post. However Tiverton didn’t panic and the game still had more goals and in the rare occasion Eloise Cresswell cut inside she seen the ball drop at her feet and made sure she put her name on the scoresheet. Then a fantastic solo effort from Courtney Butt seen her somehow beat four players and the keeper before passing the ball into the empty net. This rounded off Tiverton’s scoring and sealed the game with a 12 – 0
Today proved too difficult to choose one Girl of the game as two players really stood out in the coaching staff’s eyes today and that was the midfield pairing of Billie Denny and Leah Burridge for their endless work rate to win tackles, chase lost causes and carve out opportunities for others.
Plainmoor Girls 1 v 8 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League October 2009
A fantastic Paige Longworth - Wakeham hatrick helped Tiverton continue thier 100% record. Tiverton left Ladysmead shortly after 7:00am to travel to Torquay for an early Kick Off away to Plainmoor Girls. The young yellows started at half pace with a target to keep the ball, watch their opposition tire and take chances when they came.
It took 15 minuets for the deadlock to be broken when the in form Courtney Butt was tidily threaded through by Chloe Williams and Butt made no mistake and confidently rolled the ball past on oncoming keeper. Tiverton then went another 15 minuets before the lead was doubled and in those 15 minuets we seen thier best spells of football, with the ball being confidently played from Karin Underwood in the Tiverton goal right through the entire side with long range efforts from Eloise Cresswell, Leah Burridge and Hollie Stone being beat away by the Plainmoor keeper, Tiverton knew they needed to go into second gear and a short corner from Courtney Butt to Leah Burridge seen a plainmoor defender sucked out of postion towards Burridge a tidy return ball to Butt was all was needed and you can always guarantee passing quality from Burridge as you can guarantee pin point delivery from Butt as she drove the ball inch perfect onto the end of Eloise Cresswells firm right footed half volley. 2 - 0 Tiverton at half time.
Tiverton went out in the second half and just as they looked to be in cruise control Plainmoor broke with Tiverton recovering with a fantastic last ditch tackle from Hollie Stone. Tiverton thought they had been let off and were flat footed from the Plainmoor corner which was well delivered and well finished by the Plainmoor attacker. What Tiverton always seem to do is react well and they once again did this with a great turn from Chloe Williams who squared to Paige Longworth - Wakeham for her first of the day. Longworth - Wakeham was then replaced by Billie Denny who made a instant impact with her cultured style of play. Leah Burridge continued to win lost balls in the midfield and thread passes through and some improved movement from Chloe Williams soon led to her latching onto the end of one and Tucking the ball past the keeper to make Tiverton 4 - 1 up. It didn't take long for Williams to score again some great work from Courtney Butt seen her again deliver a pin point cross that Williams beat the keeper to and bundled home. Williams was then replaced by Longworth - Wakeham who was on the field 15 seconds before she added her second a long throw from Hollie Stone was perfectly met by Longworth - Wakeham for a fantastic first time finish. Plainmoor were beginning to leave more and more gaps and for the second time in 2 weeks and long Leah Burridge effort deceived the goalkeeper and nestled in the back of the net. Eloise Cresswell made way for the return of Chloe Williams but it was Longworth - Wakeham to finish off the scoring, a perfectly weighted pass from Billie Denny was met by Longworth - Wakeham who made no mistake in the one on one situation to seal the game and gain a 8 - 1 win.
Girl of the game went to Captain Leah Burridge for once again sitting in midfield, winning lost balls and accurately passing out from the midfield. Not the prettiest of jobs but so so important and sometimes goes unnoticed in high scoring games.
Exmouth Amateurs 0 v 8 Tiverton U13 Girls - Devon Girls League September 2009
Tiverton travelled to Exmouth today in what was their first away game and the first meeting of the Leagues only two unbeaten sides. Tiverton got off to a flier with Courtney Butt terrorising the Exmouth defence with her pace and ability on the ball. Just two minutes had gone when the deadlock was broken and it went the Yellows way after Karin Underwood played a short pass to Hollie Stone who found the feet of Eloise Cresswell who played a tidy pass inside for Leah Burridge to roll Courtney Butt in who was never going to miss with her current form. Exmouth kicked off and within another two minutes Tiverton had reacted, won the ball back and another great run from Courtney Butt saw her get her 12th goal of the season to put Tiverton 2 - 0 up. Exmouth now knew they were up against it and tried upping their performance but any danger was dealt with by Hollie Stone or Eloise Cresswell, Tiverton began to look so comfortable on the ball and began passing and moving and just watching Exmouth chase the ball. A minor injury to Paige Longworth - Wakeham seen former ammie Billie Denny replace her and make a instant impact by winning a challenge on the edge of her own box and finding the feet of Chloe Williams who turned her opponent and struck low and hard past the Exmouth keeper. With 5 minutes remaining of the first half Tiverton got the ball down again and kept possession and managed to get a forth before the break when Leah Burridge's deep cross dipped over the keepers head and into the bottom corner.
Tiverton had to make sure they went back out in the second half with the Tempo and mentality they set and the return of Longworth - Wakeham saw Stone on her own at the back and Tiverton go out all guns blazing. Longworth - Wakeham shortly had herself on the scoresheet when she worked hard to win back a ball she lost and using the outside of her right boot just rolled the ball past the keeper. Tiverton gave constant pressure and Exmouth did have some breaks but another fine display from Karin Underwood in the Tiverton goal made sure no goals were conceded. Burridge then went on the get her second as did Chloe Williams and a scramble in the box seen Williams take control get the ball out her feet and drive in her second hatrick in two weeks to finish off a 8 - 0 win for the yellows.
No girl of the match was chosen due to a fine team display and the best display the young yellows have put together so far.
Tiverton U13 Girls 16 v 0 Twyford Spartans Girls Devon Girls League September 2009
Tiverton started at a very high tempo and you could see from the word go they were gunning for their opponents today and after only 2 minuets of play they led after Courtney Butt once again beat 2 opponents and fired low and hard to the keepers right. Twyford kicked off and within seconds Tiverton had the ball and were playing around the Amory park outfit again and by spreading the ball wide to Billie Denny who completed every pass and won every tackle in her first start for the club and to Courtney Butt who at the moment just has spectators speechless they created chance after chance. It was work from Butt again beating opponents like they are invisible before putting in a dangerous ball which wasn't dealt with by Twyford allowing Tiverton's Chloe Williams to half volley past the stranded keeper. With only 8 minuets gone Tiverton were 3 - 0 up after a half cleared chance created by Eloise Cresswells long shot was poked in by the prolific Paige Longworth - Wakeham. Tiverton continued to pressure and on the odd occasion Twyford did break it was easily broken down by Hollie Stone who seems to cope with ANY DANGER, ANY TEAM throw at her. Long efforts were easily matched by Tiverton's former Twyford Spartans Keeper Keeley Seatherton. Butt was now taking her game to another level and notched up 3 more individual efforts before the break to leave Tiverton going in comfortable at half time 6 - 0 up.
Tiverton introduced keeper Karin Underwood, Maggie Andrews and former Twyford Spartans Striker Hollie Seatherton to the line up for the second half but it wasn't long until Courtney Butt was at it again striking 25 yards out from the touchline unbelievably finding the top corner. Some fantastic link up play from Maggie Andrews and Hollie Seatherton left Chloe Williams in space to let unleash a unstoppable drive. Tiverton did not stop terrorizing the Twyford defence which now consisted of their whole side a very rare poorly taken corner from Tiverton came back out wide to Leah Burridge who had a touch out her feet and superbly bent the ball round the keeper from a stunning angle to get her name on the scoresheet and it only took two minuets for her to find the net again after winning a ball on the edge of her own box and travelling at pace through 4 Twyford players and smashing home 15 yards out. Billie Denny replaced Courtney Butt and made a immediate impact and crafted a great ball into the feet of Chloe Williams who found the unmarked Maggie Andrews who slotted home her first competitive goal in a yellow shirt. Andrews made it her second just seconds later when a ball across the box was tapped home. Andrews left the field to a standing ovation for her impact and was replaced by Paige Longworth - Wakeham who not long after being on won a long ball set Chloe Williams who wrong footed her opponent and let rip a thunderbolt to take the ball and the keeper in the net to seal her Hatrick. Provider then turned scorer when Longworth - Wakeham was in 15 yards of space to run towards the keeper but as she keeps doing amazed all by striking from her standing position to gain her second of the day and take her season tally to 6 in 3 games. And oh yes there was still time for more Courtney Butt magic who individually grabbed 2 more goals to take her tally to 7 for the day and to 16 for Tiverton.
Tiverton U13 Girls 5 v 1 Plainmoor Girls Devon Girls League September 2009
After last week heroics of beating champions Ashmoor Ladies all eyes and ears were on Tiverton Town today to see if they could again step up to plate and keep the standard of football as high as previous weeks and get a result against the visiting Plainmoor Girls.
Tiverton started brightly and in the first 2 minuets really shook Plainmoor up who had their goalkeeper to thank for early saves from Chloe Williams and Courtney Butt. Butt continued her great run of form from previous weeks and is becoming a constant threat to all opposing sides with her fantastic ability to beat a player. 5 minuets in seen Butt cut inside, beat her player with ease and square to the in form Paige Longworth - Wakeham who is having the form of her life and was never missing she sidestepped her opponent and fired past the keeper. It wasn't long before Longworth - Wakeham was again on the score sheet this time a LONG throw from Hollie Stone was well held up by Chloe Williams where she played a tidy one, two with Courtney Butt before again cutting the ball back across the box for Longworth - Wakeham to tap home. Although Tiverton were 2 - 0 up they were still not in control of the game and found it difficult to sometimes deal with Plainmoor's route one style of play. Ten minuets in a long ball from the Plainmoor defender was only half cleared and Plainmoor capitalized hammering the ball past the stranded Karin Underwood. A reshuffle of shape and the switch of position to Eloise Cresswell from midfield back into defence gave Hollie Stone more cover and Tiverton began to be more patient, keep the ball and frustrate Plainmoor. Some good midfield battling from Leah Burridge seen the ball spread wide to Courtney Butt who traveled into the space in front her, and unleashed a low drive which flew past the keeper into the bottom right hand corner. Tiverton continued their pressure and with the ball bobbling around the Plainmoor box Paige Longworth - Wakeham took it up on herself to get the ball down, show some great footwork to beat two players and smash home her first half Hatrick.
With Tiverton leading 4 - 1 at half time they went back out aiming to carry on where they left off but all credit to Plainmoor who never gave up and carved out two great chances which were equally matched by Tiverton's second half keeper Keeley Seatherton. Ten minuets in seen the fresh legs of Billie Denny at the back in place of Eloise Cresswell and she was called into action straight away where she made a fantastic last ditch tackle in a one on one situation. Tiverton continued to create chances and Courtney Butt's 20 yard thunderbolt was only denied by the crossbar it didn't take long to make up for it though. With Burridge doing the dirty work in midfield it allowed Butt to travel forward more freely where she managed to beat 3 oncoming defenders and slide the ball past the keeper to make the score 5 - 1. Maggie Andrews and Hollie Seatherton were then introduced and played some tidy stuff to set Leah Burridge who seen her attempted lob just dip over the bar. Tiverton remained on top and the game finished 5 - 1.
The coaching staff today chosen current leading goalscorer Paige Longworth - Wakeham as the Girl of the match for her fantastic work rate, unbelievable footwork and for getting a first half hatrick.
Next Sunday sees the first ever local derby match where Tiverton host close neighbors Twyford Spartans.
Tiverton U13 Girls v Ashmoor Ladies Devon Girls League August 2009
After an unbeaten pre season Tiverton Town under 13’s Girls couldn’t have had a tougher start to their DGFL campaign. Today visiting the young yellows were last seasons league and cup double winning side Ashmoor Ladies who were beaten only once last season and had yet again added more strength and depth to their side. In many peoples eyes these were the two favourites for the league and yes they met on day one.
Tiverton came out of the traps early and put constant pressure on Ashmoor with just 5 minuets gone Courtney Butt linked up well with lone striker Chloe Williams only for Williams to see her effort fantastically saved by the Ashmoor Keeper. Further chances came from the outstanding Paige Longworth – Wakeham who could only find the post and the crossbar. Tiverton continued to pressure and at some stages lost the ball by over forcing passes to desperately try and gain the early advantage but any Ashmoor break was mopped up comfortably by the defensive pairing of Hollie Stone and Eloise Cresswell. With Leah Burridge dominating the midfield on her own this gave midfielder Courtney Butt the chance to pull wide and do what she does best, run at players and beat them EVERY time. With this happening it didn’t take long for Butt to beat her opponent, find Williams feet who was easily allowed to turn and square the ball across the box for Paige Longworth – Wakeham to fire Tiverton in front and claim her first goal for the yellows. Tiverton seen out the remaining 10 minuets of the half creating some more half chances and staying on top of the game.
With the game only at 1 – 0 Ashmoor were still in it and came out fighting but could only fire in long range efforts which were comfortably dealt with by Karin Underwood. With Ashmoor packing the midfield Leah Burridge had her work cut out and 10 minuets into the second half won a fantastic 50/50 tackle, spread the ball wide to Courtney Butt who again beat her player and found the feet of Chloe Williams who this time played the way she was facing to set Butt who drove the ball low and hard past the unsighted keeper. With Tiverton 2 – 0 up and players beginning to tire they introduced Billie Denny who played a more defensive roll as Tiverton attempted to see out the game. The one time Tiverton were caught flat at the back Ashmoor beat them by one ball for the striker to coolly take the ball round the on rushing Karin Underwood and simply tuck it away. With 5 minuets remaining Tiverton pumped the ball long up to second half substitute Hollie Seatherton who beat her opponent well but just ran the ball out of play. Tiverton soaked up any remaining pressure to see the game out and win 2 – 1.
Today’s girl of the match was selected by Tiverton Under 18’s secretary Russ Murch and Tiverton’s child welfare officer Debbie Murch who gave the award to Hollie Stone for some fantastic challenges, unbelievable strength and great reading of the game. Happy Birthday Rocky!!!
Tiverton U13 Girls v Portishead Friendly August 2009
After a comfortable win against Mendip last week Tiverton prepared for next weeks DGFL kickoff by hosting last seasons Bristol Girls league champions Portishead Town. Tiverton went out all guns blazing and took the game straight to Portishead but Portishead soaked up the pressure and created some good chances that were dealt with by Tiverton stopper Karin Underwood, Tiverton continued to pressure and seen half chances from Leah Burridge, Paige Longworth-Wakeham and Courtney Butt go begging. 2 minutes before half time some great interplay from Billie Denny and Courtney Butt lead to a fantastic through ball from Butt for Chloe Williams to prolifically tuck the ball under the rushing keeper. Tiverton went in 1 - 0 up at the break and the first 10 minutes of the second half could send the game either way and Portishead started the brighter of the 2 and got an equaliser after a well worked corner. Tiverton reacted well and Courtney Butt beat her player for pace and played a perfectly waited cross right into the path of Leah Burridge who neatly tucked it away. Tiverton then went from strength to strength and a well worked move from Eloise Cresswell, Hollie Stone and Hollie Seatherton led to a well taken half volley from Chloe Williams. Portishead reacted with a long range effort equally matched with Tiverton keeper Keeley Seatherton. With 5 minutes remaining, Tiverton seen out the clock with some good defending and created one last chance from a great run from Maggie Andrews who fired it just wide of the upright the game ended 3 - 1. Stuart Burridge & Chad Gribble would like to say a big thank you to Portishead for a fair well contested friendly and wish Jeff and his girls all the best for the up coming season.
Girl of the game has been chosen by the coaching staff to go to first half keeper Karin Underwood for some fantastic first half saves.
v Mendip August 2009
This was the first time the new look Tiverton Town Under 13’s girls took to the field to play and with expectations set very high by manager Stuart Burridge and coach Chad Gribble there was a Tivvy following to see what the girls are actually capable of and they did not disappoint. Tiverton faced a friendly with a Mendip Girls side that had a successful season in the Somerset Girls League last season.
Mendip started the brightest out of the two sides and created an early chance which was well saved by Tiverton goalkeeper Karin Underwood. Tiverton began to pass and move in a way which was going to trouble any side and after about ten minuets of play Holly Seatherton gave Tiverton the lead with a low drive from outside the box. This still failed to raise Tiverton but some great defending from lone defender Hollie Stone seemed to lift the young yellows and a great run from Courtney Butt lead to a bullet from Leah Burridge that gave the Mendip keeper no chance. Now the yellows were 2 up confidence came from all over the pitch with Tiverton living up to expectation and going in 5 – 0 up at half time.
Half time saw Tiverton bring on their other goalkeeper Keeley Seatherton who was rarely troubled but dealt with what she had to well as well as distributing the ball sharply and effectively to create more chances. Tiverton raised their game to such a high level they finished the game 16 – 0 winners against a side who never gave up and showed some good football at times.
Tiverton’s scorers on the day were Courtney Butt (5), Leah Burridge (4), Chloe Williams (4) and singles from Maggie Andrews, Hollie Stone and Holly Seatherton A special mention must go to Tiverton’s Paige Longworth – Wakeham who turned provider for the day and caused Mendip constant problems with her quick feet and vision to carve opportunities out for others to finish. Tiverton’s next game is on Saturday 29th August home to Portishead Town from the Bristol Girls league whereTiverton aim to continue a fantastic warm up to their Devon Girls League campaign.
