Tiverton U15s 9 v 1 Feniton - Juventus League - April 2010

Our first game in the league on Ladysmead! We only had 13 players as there a few injuries so we started with Elliot Sanderson up front with Jason and it was from this combination that we opened up the scoring after 1min 20 secs. Jake Searle was right back again and looks like he has cemented himself into that position with another strong performance. Our 2nd goal came from corner!! Miracle of miracles it dropped out to the sweet right foot of Chris Atyeo (17min) who hit it like a rocket into the top of the net. Jason Kennard then added another in the 29th min and at half time it was 3-0. Second half saw Ryan German leave us to go and run his U16s team but we just about got by! James Youlden opened the scoring in the 2nd half in the 48th min followed very quickly by another on the 50th min. At times we played some very composed football with good passing. Jason Kennard then added another in the 63rd minute when he ran onto a through ball from midfield, took it round the keeper and scored. Then there was an OG on the 65th min. In the 67th min Rich Edworthy added another from a lovely cross by Danny Hathaway. Jason then added another on the 71st min and finally Danny Hathaway scored our last goal. All in all a good solid performance with another clean sheet.

Tiverton U15s 13 v 0 Central - Juventus League - April 2010

The first 20 minutes of the game appeared as though we really did not want to play. It was stalemate until Tommo sent through a lovely ball for Rich Edworthy to finish with a lovely shot. Then the floodgates opened with goals from Tylor (2) and Jason Kennard (3) so at half time it was 6-0. We started Jake Searle at right back for the first time and he played exceptionally well for us, made some good runs and looked very composed when he had the ball. We were without some key players so Tylor played up front with Jason which worked quite well. Tommo and Youlden were in midfield and took control of things.

The second half saw us come out strong again and we scored another 7 goals, Nathan Wallace (2) then an OG then Tylor Grigg (1), Rich Edworthy (1),  Jason Kennard (1) and Adam Thompson (1).

Tedburn St Mary 3 v 8 Tiverton U15s - Juventus League - April 2010

We went to this game knowing that a victory would  secure us the league. Its a good thing to point out that you should never underestimate your oppositon as within 3 mins Tedburn took the lead from some very sloppy defending which resulted in us giving away a penalty. It did not take long to score though and by half time we were leading 5 - 2. Tedburns 2nd goal was an own goal as well. Our goals in the 1st half came from Tylor Grigg (2) Kieron Love 1, Danny Hathaway 1 and Adam Thompson 1. The second half saw us add 3 more from James Youlden, Jason Kennard and Nathan Wallace with 1 each. Tedburn also scored from a re-start with a long range shot.

Final score 3-8 so we got the result but not in the style that I wanted. Never the less we are now the league champions!

Tiverton U15s 9 v 1 Feniton - Juventus League - March 2010

We went into todays game as league 2 champions and we were facing the current league leaders of division 1 so we knew that this would be a tough game.

Pinhoe were very organised and played some good football. Dan Law pulled off a great save after 20mins and tipped a looping shot over the bar. We stayed composed and at times played some good football. We could have gone a goal up after 10 mins when Chris Atyeo headed over the bar from a corner. 0-0 at half time with the 1st half fairly even. The 2nd half I would say that we had the lions share of the play although Pinhoe were good at sending the ball through on the counter attack and it was a cross from one of these breaks that led to Pinhoes goal which was going wide but was deflected into the back of the net by a Tivvy player. Its a cruel game, we have now been knowcked out of both cups to own gaols. Tivvy kept on battling and never gave up although we lacked creativity. We had several chances in the 2nd half but could not finish any of them. Owen Howe had the best opportunity but their keeper was equal to it and knocked it behind for a corner. All credit to Pinhoe as they are 1st side that we have not scored against.

Tiverton U15s 9 v 1 Feniton - Juventus League - March 2010

We approached this game far better than the previous week and all the boys were up for it. The game went according to form and we found ouselves 5-0 up by half time with goals from Owen Howe 3, Tylor Grigg 1, and jake Searle 1. Within minutes of the 2nd half starting Feniton were awarded a dubious penalty which resulted in them scoring. Then 4 more goals from Jake Searle 2, Owen Howe 1, and Richard Edworthy 1.

We are now looking forward to the match against Pinhoe Spartans next Saturday

Tiverton U15s 10 v 2 Broadclyst - Juventus League - March 2010

We need to ensure that we approach each game with the same level of preparation as we do for all games. We did not start this game with the right mind set, we thought that we had already won it before we even started. We had some gilt edged opportunities but rather than finish them off properly we half heartedly attempted a shot. Far too casual. We did open the scoring and went 1-0 up after 7 minutes with a goal from Jake Searle. Then a series of mistakes by the defence and midfield led to Broadclyst scoring twice. The first one was a mistake by Elliot Sanderson, he should have cleared it in to touch and allowed us to get our shape back. Instead he decided to take on a striker, we then lost it, it was squared to their midfield player who was not closed don and he hit a lovely shot in the top corner. A needless goal conceded. Their 2nd goal was conceded from a corner and when you consider the size of our defence and keeper Broadclyst should not have got their head on it. So within 15 mins we were 2-1 down.

It then took us until 31 minutes to gain the equaliser from Owen Howe who also added 2 more on 35 and 38 mins so at half time it was 4-2. Broadclyst battled hard during the 1st half. Our finishing during the first half was woeful and we made some bad attacking decisions, shooting when we should have passed it and vice versa. It seemed that every decision we were making was the wrong one.

Half time team talk was required more than ever. We made a few changes and on 44 mins we were 5-2 up with a nice finish from Rich Edworthy. Goals then came from Tylor Grigg (47 & 64min) Nathan Wallace (55min) Jason Kennard (59min) & Rich Edworthy again on 81min. Final score 10-2.

Cullompton Rangers 1 v 3 Tiverton U15s - Juventus League Cup Round 2 - March 2010

We were looking forward to this to try and bery the demons from last weeks defeat! We started with a positive formation and I asked the boys to do a job for me which they did very well. Within 10 mins we had a goal disallowed from a free kick that was sent in by Elliot Sanderson, it was headed back across goal by Danny Hathaway and then headed in by Rich Edworthy but it was ruled to be offside. The brek through came on 18mins when a free kick beautifully sent in by Rich Edworthy went through everyone and straight into the back of the net. Cullompton came back very strong and well struck long range effort from one their players hit the crossbar and rebounded for their right winger to score with a tap in. Half time 1-1. Three subs made at half time saw Owen Howe, Chris Atyeo and Tylor Grigg come on. They replaced Jake Searle, James Philps and James Youlden who had all made a great contribution in the first half. We had a number of chances and the game was end to end and finally Owen Howe broke through on 52 mins took it round the keeper and slotted it home. Cullompton kept on coming and had a few chances from set pieces that they did not finish. We must learn to defend without giving away needless free kicks in front of our 18 yard box. The final goal was finished by Tylor Grigg after good work again down the middle from Owen Howe who's shot was  parried by the keeper and Tylor tapped it in on 89. The Cullompton keeper had a great game and stopped at least another 4 chances that we had. We are looking forward to playing Cullompton again next season.

Ivybridge Town 3 v 2 Tiverton U15s - Devon County Cup Q Final - February 2010

This really was a game of 2 halves. We started very very strong and even though we lost our captain after 10 mins play we went 2 goals up within the first 20 mins of the game. Jason Kennard got the 1st after the ball was sent in from a corner and spilled out for Jason to tap over the line. The 2nd was also from a corner which resulted in Chris Atyeo scoring with a nice shot. Tylor was victim to a crunching tackle which saw his boot penetrated by the other players stud which went right through to his skin and resulted in him having 4 butterfly stitches in it at Tivvy hospital after the game. At half time we were 2-0 up and looked like we were cruising. Here is the fatal error. My back 4 had a wonderful 1st half and looked difficult to beat, due to necessity I changed it around and moved my right back to midfield and brought on a sub at left back. This disrupted my midfield and my defence. In hindsight I should have left the defence as it was and played 1 up front and dropped another player into midfield. That is not to say that Ivybridge did not come out fighting 2nd half as they did and they did it very well. They battled and were all over us. We conceded the 1st goal from a dubious penalty decision, the 2nd was a mistake by letting the ball bounce and giving the subsequent momentum to their attacker who did finish his shot very well. The 3rd and killer blow was an own goal with about 10 mins left to play. Further injuries to Owen Howe, James Yolden and James Philps did not help our cause and we found ourselves lacking. We went 3 at the back and 3 up front but we still could not find the goals required. The referee had a nightmare of a game and was victim to a lot of abuse from both sets of supporters. This is wrong as he did his best but there were numerous occasions where he did not keep up with play. All in all lessons were learnt today and we wish Ivybridge success for their next game. I cant help but feel though that the team that beat us today was ourselves, we are capable of much better and will do so.

Tiverton U15s 4 v 0 St Martins - Juventus Youth League February 2010

A relief that the game went ahead after all the recent cancellations! The pitch was a bit boggy which made it difficult to control the ball. St Martins played some good football and put us under pressure. We did not make it easy for ourselves and were pressed in the left back position. Mid way through the first half we broke the deadlock with a well finished goal by Danny Hathaway. This was quickly followed by another after a brilliant run down the right by Danny Hathaway who then crossed it for Owen Howe to head it home. James Yolden got the third with a superb shot from long range which the keeper could not keep out. Half time 3-0. The second half saw us have plenty of chances but we could finish them off. The strikers need to communicate more with each other and once they do this we will score more goals. We got the fourth after a great through ball by Danny Hathaway for Jason Kennard to run on to and finish with a precise shot. Final score 4-0 to Tiverton.

Central 0 v 4 Tiverton U15s - Juventus Youth League February 2010

Tiverton did not really get started during this game. Apart from a 5 minute spell during the first half when we scored 3 goals there was not much else to talk about. Central battled very hard and contested every ball. The pitch was awful and did not suit a passing game, the ball was bobbling about all over the place. Jake Searle secured a good hatrick in the first half with some well executed goals. In games like this it is diffficult to get motivated and it showed today. If we are to improve we need to concentrate 100% of the time and go out there and want to perform and win. Owen Howe got the 4th in the 2nd half. Well done to Central who never gave up. Tivvy are capable of so much more.

Broadclyst 0 v 12 Tiverton U15s - Juventus Youth League January 2010

Very pleased that the game went ahead after all the rain overnight! Tiverton started very well and we were a goal up within the first 10 mins with a nicely finished goal by Owen Howe. We played a 4-4-1-1  formation for the first half and by half time we were 4-0 up. Jake Searle played as an attacking midfielder Just behind Owen Howe and looked very composed on the ball with some lovely passing. We needed to keep the ball more and use the wings with better effect and this we did within 2 mins of the 2nd half starting with a blistering run don the wing from Nathan Wallace and a clinical finish. After 60 mins I changed to a 3-4-3 formation and we finished the game comfortably. Broadclyst kept on battling and are a credit to their manager and themselves. Cole Batten who usually plays in defence moved to midfield when we went 3-4-3 and scored 2 goals!

Plymstock United Colts 0 v 8 Tiverton U15s - Devon County Cup Round 2 December 2009

This game has been delayed by 5 weeks and today we finally got to play it. Conditions were not perfect as there was a very strong wind which we decided to play into the first half. Danny Hathaway played very well on the wing and tormented their left back with a series of great runs. Plymstock had 3 break away chances in the first half but we were never reality under any pressure. They were playing 5 - 4 - 1 so were difficult to break down. The breakthrough came from a corner which fell to the feet of Chris Atyeo and he finished it nicely. Tylor Grigg then added a 2nd with a lovely shot from the edge of the box. I then changed our formation to 3 - 5 - 2 to make us more attacking and Adam Thompson quickly added a third. 3 - 0 at half time was ok but we could do better. Kept it to 3 -5 -2 in the second half and the pressure was always on Plymstock and they never looked like scoring. We added 5 good goals, (Jake Searle got 1, Owen Howe 2, Jason Kennard 1 and Rich Edworthy 1) and ran out very comfortable winners.

Alphington 0 v 5 Tiverton U15s - Juventus League October 2009

This is probably the smallest pitch that I have ever seen for a full 11 a side game. It suited Alphingtons style of play and they managed to thwart most of our attacks. However, after about 20 mins we managed to break the dead lock with a good finish from Owen Howe. We had a couple of chances before that we missed a sitter and snatched at a couple of chances. Half time was still 1-0. Made a few changes at half time and within 1 min we were 2 - 0 up with a great finish from Tylor grigg. We then added a third again from Tylor with a great long range pin point free kick! Jake Searle then added a 4th with a lovely move down the left and he finished it from just insede the box. Danny Hathaway added the final goal with his left foot! Debut performance today from Kieran Love and he has a great eye for the ball and played very well. We now have a great squad of boys and it gives me a nice selection headache each week. Lesson to learn from todays match is that on a small pitch you have to play pass and move football, 1 or 2 touches and then play it otherwise you will get closed down and lose possession. A deserved win, should have been a higher scoreline though.

Tiverton U15s 3 v 1 Willand Rovers - Juventus League Cup October 2009

We knew this would be our toughest test so far and so it proved to be. Willand were very professional and organised throughout their squad and management staff. They had a game plan and stuck to it and we found them very difficult to break down. We started very well and played some good football, in the first 15 minutes we had about 5 chances to score but did not convert one of them. Willand however had one breakaway chance and due to poor defending by us and a good finish by their striker they scored! Never ever ever let the ball bounce from a kick by a keeper!! This enabled me to see the character that the boys have and see how they can respond to a 1st division side going ahead. We had another 8 or 9 chances in the 1st half and even hit the woodwork but could not score. Half time team talk consisted of praising the boys for what they had done and to continue doing it as I was sure that a goal would come soon. 15 minutes into the second half I made three substitutions in an attempt to change the dynamic of the game. We were getting closer, with 10 minutes to go I then changed two more players by putting two that came off back on, we went 3-4-3, then with 7 minutes left we equalised! What a relief. 2 minutes later we scored again from a set piece, 2 minutes later we scored again. We then reverted to 4-4-2 and willed the whistle to blow for full time! Apart from the 1st half mis-hap the defence were rock solid and Willand did not have one more shot on goal, Daniel Law was very composed in goal as well. Here is the lesson for the team though, never think you have scored until the ball is in the back of the net, i am sure that some players thought all we had to do was turn up and we would win but Willand had different ideas. Man of the match was James Youlden.

Tiverton U15s 15 v 0 Honiton Town - Devon County Cup October 2009

Honiton were missing 6 of their first team line up so it was a miracle that they managed to put a side together. They were spirited and never lost their composure even though they went down to 10 men through injury. Kieron Sluman made some great saves for Honiton and without him being so courageous they would have conceded a few more. In the end a comfortable win for Tivvy.

Goalscorers Owen Howe 1, Tylor Grigg 3, Jake Searle 2, Elliot Sanderson 1, Danny Hathaway 2, James Youlden 2, Richard Edworthy 2, Nathan Wallace 2

Tiverton U15s 6 v 1 Pinhoe Spitfires - Juventus League October 2009

We were expecting this to be a tougher game than any other in our league so far and it proved to be. Pinhoe are the best side that we have played and they battled hard for the ball, however we did under perform which was disappointing. Pinhoe had some early pressure but it was a great breakaway by Tivvy that produced a great through ball for Owen to run onto, he took it into the box and clinically finished with his left foot to put us 1-0 up. Owen then got the 2nd to make it 2-0 after about 20 mins. Then a dreadful mistake whereby we tried to clear a ball from the corner flag by kicking it across back towards our goal, this put us under pressure and we did not clear the ball properly and a Pinhoe player hit a great shot on the volley from just outside the D and scored a great goal for them. We then responded as we are expected to do and gained a third goal from a corner which was converted by James Youlden, now 3-1 going into half time. The 2nd half saw some changes and we kept the pressure on and a clean sheet which I was looking for. Owen scored another 2 goas, one from a corner with his head. We have worked a bit on corners and to score 2 in one match is somewhat rewarding. Jaake searle got the 6th with 5 mins to play after a great run and cross from Danny Hathaway. Jake has a great work rate and once he converts his chances he will prove to be a valuable asset. Dan Law played most of the match as our starting keeper and gave a great performance, Nathan Mew did very well as our 2nd starting keeper when he came on, we are very lucky to have 2 decent keepers! We had one new starter today, Chris Atyeo, he had a good first game and it was pleasing to see him play alongside Eliiot Sanderson in central defence, two of the biggest players I have ever seen at centre back at this age group! James Youlden was big and strong in midfield and James Philps put in a stirring performance at at left back and was awarded man of the match.

Team Line Up.

Dan Law, James Philps, Elliot Sanderson, Chris Atyeo, Cole Batten, Tylor Grigg, Adam Thompson, James Youlden, Jason Kennard, Nathan Wallace, Owen Howe, Subs, Danny Hathaway, Richard Edworthy, Jake Searle, Nathan Mew.

St Martins 0 v 7 Tiverton U15s - Juventus League October 2009

We travelled to Exeter today and played St Martins at Middlemoor, Police HQ. The pitch was prepared very well and the facilities provided were superb. The first 5 mins Tiverton had a couple of gilt edged chances but did not convert, one of them being a mis kick by Richard Edworthy and missed an open goal! It did not take long for Tivvy to get into their stride and owen Howe opened the scoring with a lovely shot on goal. He then got the 2nd and that was followed by a long range quality finish by Adam Thompson from outside the box. We made 3 substitutions in the 1st half and at half time we were 4-0 up, the 4th coming from Owen Howe just before he came off. The 2nd half I expected to be tighter as we were kicking up hill against the wind and it was. Owen came back on and scored in the 1st 5 mins of the 2nd half to make it 5-0. We then made more substitutions to even out the play as much as possible for everyone. The defence was solid and restricted St Martins to one shot for the whole game. Credit must be given to St Martins for their sportsmanship and determination, they are a credit to their manager. Jake Searle scored 2 more goals towards the end one of them a great left foot finish while running at pace. We missed a few more opportunities during the game but it finally finished 7-0 to Tivvy. We still need to improve in a lot of areas, particularly keeping the ball in midfield and short 1 2 passes. We can do better and will need to against tougher opposition.

Tiverton U15s 17 v 0 Tedburn St Mary - Juventus League September 2009

Tedburn St Mary (TSM) were very courageous as they still came and played the game even though they did not have a manager. Tivvy needed to start the game strongly and show how they can perform which they did. Keeping a clean sheet was important and we managed to do this. The defence was strong as was the midfield and strike force. Owen Howe scored 8, Jake Searle scored 4, Adam Thompson 1, Elliot Sanderson 1, James Youlden 1and Jason Kennard 1. Final score 17 - 0. TSM never gave up and should be proud of themselves for keeping going. Ultimately Tivvy were too strong for them but we need to ensure that we remain focused for the next league fixture.

Sidmouth 1 v 4 Tiverton U15s Juventus League September 2009

We arrived at the ground and were not able to use our changing rooms until 15 min before the scheduled kick off. This gave us very little time to prepare and this showed in the early stages of the game. Tivvy started off with a 3 5 2 formation which was a mistake, Sidmouth worked harder and wanted the ball more during the first half and although Tivvy had 2 clear chances it was Sidmouth that deservedly took the lead. With 5 minutes to go til half time a speculative long ball was not controlled by the Sidmouth keeper and a clinical finish by Jason Kennard brought us level. A polite half time team talk brought the boys back on track and within 15 minutes of the 2nd half resuming we were 4 - 1 up. 2 goals coming from Owen Howe and the first being a lovely left footed guided shot over the keepers head. Nathan Wallace then used his pace down the right and was brought down in the penalty box to be awarded a penalty. Tyler Gregg (captain) then stepped forwards and scored a great penalty. Sidmouth were on the back foot the majority of the 2nd half and only troubled the Tivvy keeper once. This really was a game of 2 halves, the first half belonged to Sidmouth and the 2nd half belonged to Tivvy. The boys need to up their game from now on and start playing passing football from the second the whistle blows.

Tiverton U15s v Weston Mill Friendly August 2009

Tiverton Under 15's played their first game together on Tuesday. With a new team formed and with 15 players that have never played together, the boys first game was against one of the top U15's side in Plymouth. The rain was lashing down, the one changing room was taken by the home team and all the Tivvy boys had was their bags for shelter. With a parent/coach refereeing the game, the whistle went and Tivvy started the brighter. With as good as football you can play in the wet and windy conditions, Tivvy had Weston Mill pinned back in their own half for the first 15 minutes. With a good effort from Jake Searle, the Weston Mill keeper looked suspect. After 15 minutes of being the better side, the yellows took advantage of their possession, when Owen Howe scored from 25 yards which left the keeper standing. The yellows then hit another 25 yard shot, but this time from Adam Thompson and with the same outcome. Two 25 yarders sent Tivvy into the break 2-0 up. With out playing impressive football, Tivvy were winning but as predicted, Weston Mill came out and started strongly. 15 minutes into the second half Weston Mill got a goal back and just 10 minutes after they put themselves level through sloppy play on Tivvys behalf. Going into the last 20 minutes it was any ones game but Weston Mill did look the stronger team at this point. After clever play between the Plymouth's teams midfield and strikers, their forward was sent through one on one and manage to invite the tackle from the yellows keeper which resulted in a penalty. This was converted and Weston Mill had the lead for the first time, 3-2. With just a few minutes left, Tivvy won a free kick just outside the box. Tylor Grigg claimed the ball and might have claimed free kicks for the season with a great placed free kick, which ended up in the top right corner and giving Tivvy a draw. The game ended 3-3 and playing well were man of the matches: Elliot Sanderson and Tom Spiller.
