Tiverton U15 Girls 3 v 3 Plainmoor Girls Devon Girls League September 2009
Tiverton Town Under 15 girls made a solid start to the season in an entertaining match against a good Plainmoor side. Despite scoring first, Tivvy had to twice come from behind eventually settling for a 3 - 3 draw.
Tiverton opened the scoring with a fine right foot finish by Sophie Bamforth in the 15th minute after good work by Abbie Tolley. Tiverton continued to dominate and create further chances before Plainmoor produced a well taken equaliser just before half time. Despite the hot weather Tivvy upped the tempo at the start of the second half and pushed forward in search of the winner. However Plainmoor had different ideas and put their noses in front with a looping shot from the edge of the area which goalkeeper Holly Tunstall was unable to prevent from dropping in right under the crossbar.
Tiverton continued to play their passing game which was rewarded when Sophie Bamforth set up Kerry Broom to score her first goal for the team. Unfortunately a foul on the edge of the area presented Plainmoor with the opportunity to go ahead again which they duly took with a shot which hit the underside of the cross bar which bounced just the wrong side of the line before Holly Tunstall gathered. A deserved equaliser came when Kerry Broom scored her second of the game which made for a tense finish with further chances at each end.
A fair result and an excellent advert for girls football. The player of the match award was shared by new girls Kerry Broom and Rowan Jeffrey.
