Morley Rangers 1 v 5 Tiverton U16s - Devon County Cup FINAL - May - 2010

In the first minute of the 2nd half of this match against Morley Rangers, Tiverton Town lost Sam Baker with dislocated shoulder. This required hospital treatment and the match was delayed for 36 minutes but from the re-start Tiverton put in a spirited second half performance by clicking into gear to produce a stunning display of football that netted four goal to life the trophy with a 5 - 1 win.

After only 3 minutes of the match a free kick by Tiverton's Callum Old from a useful position was saved by the Morley goalkeeper Ryan Bazely.Morley then twice broke through the Tiverton defence but keeper Robbie Powell came running outside of his area to make decisive clearances that denied Adam Stevenson and Lewis Garforth from scoring. After 17 minutes Tiverton took the lead when Old found Josh Wren with a delightful ball and the hard working number 4 fired a rocket of a shot from 27 yards into the roof of the net. Tiverton continued with two more chances but a free kick by Haydn was stopped by the Morley keeper Bazley and a cross from the left saw Adam Kana-ah head fractionally wide.On 33 minutes Morley were level when Stevenson took advantage of a loose ball to score with a shot on the turn from close range. Two minutes later Tiverton's Lewis Plackett who was making his presence felt in midfield had a header parried away by The Morley keeper Bazley and a minute after the re-start following the injury to Naker Plackett had a shot well gathered by keeper Bazley. On 45 minutes a throw in by Tiverton's Tim Lister was headed into the area by Old but this failed to get a Tiverton connection and the ball was cleared.

In the 47th minute Tiverton again took the lead when Adam Macmartin played a ball out wide to Kana-ah and the winger fired a daidy cutter shot across the goal mouth and into the far corner. It was then Morley's turn and Stevenson was unlucky when he broke through but in a one on one with keeper Powell he saw his low shot brilliantly saved by the keeper. After 53 minutes a long shot by Tiverton's Old Brought a diving save out of the Morley keeper Bazley, whilst at the other end keeper Powell denied Morley's Joshua Tapp from scoring. On 58 minutes Tiverton went 3 - 1 up when Plackett out on the left connected with a bouncing ball to fire past keeper Bazley Morley had a free kick on 65 minutes taken by Tapp and this was saved from under the bar by the back tracking Tiverton keeper Powell but a minute later Tiverton scored again when Lister set up Macmartin to score with a forceful 20 yard shot. Five minutes later Tiverton netted their fifth when Wren scored his 2nd firing into the net from outside the penalty area. Morley had two late chances to score but Garforth just failed to connect with a volley froma long through ball and had a shot go just over the bar but it was not Tangers day and the jubilant Tiverton players lifted the trophy

Barnstaple Town 0 v 2 Tiverton U16s - North Devon League - May - 2010

Tiverton Town U16's travelled to Barnstaple today in what was a title deciding match. With the yellows needing just a point to win the league and Barnstaple needing a win to clinch the league off the yellows, everything was up for grabs. With a nervous look around the boys, after a sensible warm up and a positive team talk, it was back to a confident feeling around the dressing room. The last words were said and the whistle went. The yellows started the better and within 5 minutes had a free kick around 10 yards inside the Barnstaple half. Up went Jimbo and Sam Baker. Haydn took the free kick and played it into the area over the back four and with a bit of pace on it, you could see it was very dangerous. With Jimbo and a few others running towards the flight of the ball the keeper decided not to come. The free kick bounced, missed everyone and hit the back of the net to send the boys cheering as they were 1-0 up. Barnstaple then had the next 15 minutes where they kept the ball very well but had the play infront of our lads and very rarely looked dangerous around our area. With our boys keeping their shape very well without the ball, we always looked dangerous going forward with Adam Macmartin and Callum Old looking to pounce on every loose ball. With a few half chances for both teams the scoreline stayed at 1-0 and the young yellows went in at half time knowing that another goal will grab the title. The second half started and it was very much the other way round for 10-15 minutes with the Tivvy boys having the ball and creating chances by getting in behind the Barnstaple defence. The longer the game went on, it looked more and more like the Barnstaple team were running out of ideas with massive credit going to the back four especially for being very compact and so hard to break down. With just twenty minutes left on the clock, Barnstaple went three upfront knowing they needed two goals. Once again the back four proved they were up to the task by keeping the play infront of them and only allowing Barnstaple shots from long range which Robbie Powell comfortably sweeped up. Credit to Barnstaple who kept trying to play football and get in behind us with the three strikers producing some clever runs but with 15 minutes left on the clock, Owen Howe came off the bench for some fresh legs upfront after Adam Macmartin ran his sock off all game. Within 2 minutes Owen found himself 5 yards out ready to tap in a great cross from Tim Lister but could only manage a miss kick which landed straight into the keepers hands. 2 minutes later he made up for the miss when he calmly finished after a great bit of play from the midfield to wrap the game up and put both hands on the league title. With 10 minutes left the second goal naturally lifted the yellows who went on to miss a few more very good chances but that proved to be enough and the full time whistle went to send the players and the brilliant spectators who have followed us all year into cheers of celebration. With a deserved two nil win, the boys celebrated on and off the pitch after a very long season, the league title was finally in the bag. Men of the match went too: Jimbo, Sam Baker and Lewis Plackett who were brilliant all game. With two cups under our belt already, its time to concentrate of the County Cup Final next Sunday. We need as much support as possible so anyone is welcome to Coach Road, Newton Abbot for a 2pm K.O!

Tiverton U18s 1 v 4 Tiverton U16s - Tiverton Town Youth Cup - April - 2010

It was time for the Tiverton Town Youth Challenge Cup again, where the U18's take on the U16's. With the U18's reaching the Semi Final of the County Cup, winning the League Cup and securing Runners-Up spot in the League it was promising to be a great match as the U16's have also booked their place in the League Cup final, the County Cup final and are sitting top of their league at the moment. With both teams missing a few players, there was a good atmosphere before the game. With the warm-ups over, the team talks out the way, it was time to see if the U18's could win their second trophy of the season or if the U16's could be the first ever 16's team to get a result against their older club mates. The handshakes were over and the whistle went. The U16's (playing in white) started the more confident and within 3 minutes had a free kick on the edge of the area. A perfectly whipped in ball from Adam Kana-ah met the head of Jimbo to stun the whole of Ladysmead when the ball travelled through the air back across goal and into the net. The U16's were ahead and didn't sit on their lead either. Straight from the kick off the 16's won the ball back and created more chances. Just 15 minutes into the game they won their second corner. A good delivery from Callum Old was this time met from the other centre back Sam Baker who superbly headed the ball past the crowd of players and put the scoreline at 2-0. The U16's had started at a very quick pace but with the U18's playing 3 upfront it was only a matter of time until they had their share of possession and territory. The U18's came at the U16s and with 30 minutes gone they had a string of corners which they failed to make count. The game dried up of chances and the U18's failed to break the 16's down which resulted in the half time score staying at 2-0. Both teams came out the second half and tried playing football but once again it was the 16's who wanted the win more and this was proved when Lewis Plackett won a ball in midfield, linked passes with Grant Milton and Adam Macmartin, to eventually sending Callum Old through in behind the full back. With just the keeper to beat, Callum calmly hit the ball across the keeper and made the result of beating the 18's very possible. The 18's then went up the other end and created a half chance but David Hood shot wide of the goal. A free kick was closely followed for the u18's around 20 yards out but Jesse Howe narrowly hit over. With just 25 minutes left on the clock, it was fair to say that the u18s ran out of ideas and with the 16s pushing on higher up the pitch, a clever piece of play from Tim Lister and Adam Macmartin, switched the ball over to Callum Old who set up Grant Milton to thump the ball past keeper Kurtis Parkin to ensure this u16's team would make history and become the first ever u16's team to claim victory in the Youth Challenge Cup. With the score at 4-0 it would have been understandable if the u16s sat back but with Josh Wren and Tyler Grigg coming on off the bench, within two minutes Josh Wren played a clever pass through to Tyler who quickly released Adam Macmartin who forced Kurtis to pull off a finger tip save to stop the scoreline reaching 5. Credit to the u18's who didn't give up and with 15 minutes left got awarded a penalty which they scored. The u18's then had the next 10 minutes where they had a handful of corners and hit the bar through Michael Broome. The u16's soaked up the pressure and if it wasn't for two more one on one missed chances from Callum and Tyler, the score could well have been more. The game was over and the u16's recorded their first trophy together and a historic one in that. Final Score was 4-1. Goal Scorers were: Under 16s: Jimbo, Sam Baker, Callum Old, Grant Milton! Under 18s: Jesse Howe.

Braunton 1 v 2 Tiverton U16s - North Devon League - April - 2010

Tiverton U16's travelled to Braunton on Sunday. After already beating Braunton 10-0 and 6-0, the lads started as any u16 boys would. The yellows controlled the play and the territory without ever pushing for a goal. Whilst the score was level 0-0, you could see Braunton become more and more confident and with that began pushing higher and higher up the pitch. The boys realised that it was time to put the balls in the right areas and on one of the first chances we had to send the ball over behind the full back, Callum Old was there to score and put us 1-0 to the good. Braunton were soon pegged back in their own half again and the yellows were this time pushing for a second. A couple of good saves from the Braunton keeper and a couple of missed chances from the young yellows meant the score at half time was 1-0 Tivvy. Tivvy came out the second half, after being instructed to go searching for goals, upbeat and confident. The play continued in the Braunton half but with just 20 minutes left on the clock, an uncharacteristic mistake from the back four was made and the Braunton striker who had barely had a touch all game was through one on one with keeper Jacob O'callaghan. Credit must go to the striker who calmly produced a finish that we should have been seeing at the other end. The score was level but the yellows refused to worry and kept playing with an attacking mentality. Shortly after Grant Milton hit a sweet strike from the edge of the area to put the yellows back in front. The game then continued as it had been for large periods of the game, with Tivvy in control but Braunton defending solidly and as a team. A thank you goes to Braunton's manager who kindly refereed the game for us. Well done to Braunton for a much improved performance and well done to our lads for getting the 3 points we needed to keep us on track of winning the title.

Bude Town 1 v 0 Tiverton U16s - North Devon League Cup Semi Final - March - 2010

Tiverton U16's travelled to Bude to play their League Cup Semi Final tie on Sunday. The yellows started the game well, putting pressure on Bude high up the pitch and creating several good chances that on a different day would have been taken. With the two strikers missing a few good chances each and Tim Lister blazing over from just 4 yards, the yellows could count themselves a bit unlucky for going in at half time 0-0. The boys then came out and started well in the second half but with the wind this time in favour of the Bude team, it was Bude who had the first chance of scoring when their keeper kicked it out of his hands which the wind got under and bounced over our keeper, for Robbie Powell to just get back in time to catch the ball before it crossed over the line. The next 15-20 minutes saw Bude create 2 half chances and the yellows create around the same. Changes were made and Tivvy were pushing for the winner. More chances were missed and every Tivvy fan can be forgiven if they were bracing themselves for extra time. Josh Wren was put out on the right wing and with just 4 minutes left on the clock the yellows put another decent passage of football together only for Josh to slice his cross off the pitch. Two minutes later exactly the same happened, but this time Josh Wren picked out a perfect cross which just missed Owen Howe's head but fell to the feet of Tim Lister at the back post who finally scored his first goal for Tivvy and put the yellows into their second final of the season. With the whole team playing well in what was a deserved victory, men of the match went too: Ash Baker and Tim Lister who were very consistent and caused many problems all game.

Tiverton U16s 9 v 0 SAS - North Devon League - March - 2010

Tiverton U16s were at home to SAS this Sunday and with being the only match being played in the league, it was a big chance to go back on top of the table. The yellows started well and scored a couple early goals to put them in firm control. All 3 strikers were on good form, linking up well. The team were playing some very good football and were using the space well. Half time came and it was 5-0! The most important targets for the young yellows for the second half were to keep a clean sheet and were to keep playing the good patient build up football. SAS to their credit came out in high spirits and not once were seen to roll over and give up or to play without a smile on their face. With around 15 minutes left it was 7-0 when SAS manager looked up and offered the winning goal rule which really did sum up SAS who came and left with a smile on their face. The final whistle went at 9-0. With another clean sheet and plus 9 on our goal difference, the yellows are back on top the league with just 3 games left! Well done to both teams. Man of the Match went too Sam Baker and Lewis Plackett who player very calmy throughout the game. Goal scorers were: Owen Howe with a hatrick, Callum Old with 2, Adam Kana-ah, Adam Macmartin, Lewis Plackett, Sam Baker.

Tiverton U16s 1 v 1 Banstaple Town - North Devon League - March - 2010

Tivvy played Barnstaple at Witheridge FC on Sunday. In a tight, tense top of the table clash it was the yellows who made the break through around the 30th minute mark when Callum Old was pushed off the ball in the penalty box. The penalty was calmly slotted home by Owen Howe. The second half saw the yellows go from playing good football to playing scrappy football and sitting very deep inviting pressure on. With around 15 minutes left, Tivvy did manage to put a few decent passes together that saw a very good stop pulled off by the Barnstaple keeper, as it looked certain to go 2-0. With just 5 minutes left on the clock Barnstaple got their equaliser through unbelievably sloppy marking from Tiverton. After spending 5 minutes covering corners at the half time interval, it was a corner that broke us down at gifted Barnstaple their goal. If the young yellows are to go on and win any trophies this year, they need to start doing the simple things, like marking early and getting your shape early, before its too late and the trophies slip out of our hands. Final Result was 1-1. In a game that Tivvy should of won, a few people proved they deserve to wear the shirt with man of the match going to Sam Baker who kept his shape well and gave everything he had. The performances and football has to improve from the yellows as its now under 2 weeks until the County Cup Final.

Tiverton U16s 1 v 0 Bude Town - North Devon League - March - 2010

The U16's welcomed Bude Town to Ladysmead on Sunday. the boys were eager to hit back after last weeks disapointing result against Torridgeside. There was a good feeling around the group of boys today and from the warm up, to the team talk and out onto the pitch, there was plenty of confidence and excitement in the air. Tivvy started the better side and dominated the first half. With around 4 corners in the first 20 minutes, the yellows looked the stronger team. Chances were created but none were taken. Bude then had a five minute spell where they gained more possession but never really looked like causing a great deal of difficulty to the Tivvy back 4 or the keeper. It was then back to Tivvy controlling the game and within 10 minutes from the end of the first half, the yellows made the break through. From yet another corner, Adam Kana-ah curled in a perfect delivery for Lewis Plackett to meet with his head. Finally, the determined Bude defence cracked. The half time whistle shortly went after this goal. The boys came out and picked up where they left off and controlled most of the second half. With a clearance off the line, a few more decent chances wasted, it looked like it was only a matter of time until the second came. But credit to Bude, as they got everyone behind the ball and made it very difficult for us to break them down. With no real danger to the yellows back four again in the second half, the score stayed and finished at 1-0. It was a scrappy game but controlled by the yellows where on another day, could have possibly been more. A clean sheet and 3 points was important to get today and the result now puts us just 3 points off the top with 2 games in hand. The biggest league game of our season and also the most important game of our season is next Sunday when we are at home to Barnstaple in yet another top of the table clash. A good performance is due from the boys and how we are all hoping it gets delivered next week! Man of the Match went too Grant Milton who is now showing the form promised early on in the season.

Tiverton U16s 0 v 2 Torridgeside - North Devon League - March - 2010

After booking our place in the County Cup Final on Friday night, it was back to the league where we welcomed Torridgeside in a top of the table clash at Ladysmead. With a few players carrying knocks and a few players feeling under the weather, I changed the formation to a 3-4-3. The game started slowly, with visible signs that some of the young yellows were tired and had heavy legs. The first half saw both teams not really playing creative, eye catching football but there were some chances created, the majority from Tivvy. With a few chances from corners and few chances created in open play, the yellows came closest when Grant Milton hit the bar from around 25 yards out. Torridgeside looked dangerous on the counter attack with a few half chances but nothing that football fans would say was a clear cut chance. With the score at 0-0 going into half time, it was fair to say the half of football that was produced looked very very average. I then changed the formation back to the 4-4-2 our boys are used to. However, it was Torridgeside who came out the brighter and pinned the yellows back in our own half. With some sloppy decision making from the Tivvy back line, Torridgeside opened the scoring. Shortly after they hit us on the counter attack to double their lead. Tivvy then picked up their game to create some decent chances but it wasn't to be and credit must go to Torridgeside who deserved the 3 points. This will hopefully act as a wake up call to the boys and kick them back into good habbits whilst the league is still in our hands. Man of the Match went to Robbie Powell who made 2 very good saves to keep the score down at 2-0

Tiverton U16s 2 v 1 Buckfastleigh Rangers - Devon County Cup Semi Final - March - 2010

With a buzz around the ground, a positive vibe bouncing between the players, this is what semi finals are all about. A decent sized crowd was starting to build and the team sheets were in. The game began at a high pace. Within 5 minutes, the yellows were playing good attacking football and from a cross/shot from Tim Lister, the first shot was on target and if it wasn't for the crossbar, the keeper might have been very embarrased. Within 5 minutes of the young yellows hitting the bar, Buckfastleigh won a free kick on the edge of the area and totally against the run of play, they scored from the free kick which took a wicked deflection from the blocking player and left Robbie Powell stranded. The reaction from Tivvy was a good one but lacked cutting edge. As chances were missed and the score was still at 1-0, you could clearly see the boys were not themselves. Other then the deflected free kick, Buckfastleigh didnt really cause any more problems in the first half but the yellows were guilty of giving possession away by not playing the ball quicker. The half time whistle went, the scoreline was 1-0. With a positive half time team talk and some much needed motivation drilled into the boys, we came back out and started the better. 15 minutes of knocking on the door again and starting the better team, Adam Macmartin played a ball into Callum Old who showed great feet but for only the defender to take his standing leg away which resulted in Callum stepping up confidently to convert the penalty. The score was level 1-1. With 25 minutes left on the clock and with Tivvy getting the equaliser, credit must go to Buckfastleigh for their determination and their bounce back ability to the equaliser as they controlled the next 10 minutes. With decent possession in a 10 minute spell, they couldn't break down the young yellows and with 2 of their players getting booked, it was clear to see if we could get a hold of the game again then it was there for the taking. This is exactly what we did. With Ash Baker, Josh Wren, Grant Milton, Tim Lister, Lewis Plackett and Adam Kana-ah all playing well in midfield, it helped us regain the upper hand on the game and saw us boss the last 15 minutes with several good chances created. With the back 4 and the keeper doing well again we were all hoping for one shot to just hit the back of the net and when we all saw great link up play between the 2 strikers, only for Callums shot to smash against one post onto the other and to bounce away, you could be forgiven if you were beginning to think it just wasn't going to be our day. But as shown before, the fitness and pure determination of a truely great squad, the tense silence was broken when a perfectly timed ball played by Adam Macmartin met a perfectly timed finish by Callum Old to send the players and spectators cheering. With just 3 minutes left on the clock it was all about holding on. Buckfastleigh did get a free kick which went through the wall but calmly collected from Robbie 'Mr Calm' Powell. A great team performance and one that many believe deserve to be in the final. A fantastic match with a fantastic result. We hope to see you all at the final!

Woolwell 0 v 3 Tiverton U16s - Devon County Cup Quarter Final - February - 2010

Tiverton U16s travelled to Plymouth on Sunday to play Woolwell in the Devon County Cup Q-F. The game had been postponed for the past 2 weeks and was widely expected to be a evenly contested match. The match proved to be a very tough game for both teams. The whistle went to start the game and both teams started well. With hard tackles from the word go, we new that Woolwell were up for it. Half way through the first half Lewis Plackett went through 1 on 1 with Woolwell's keeper but the goaly did well and blocked the shot. Moments laters Callum Old, who tricked and turned the Woolwell defenders all game seemed to have been brought down in the penalty box, only for the referee to turn it away. Woolwell then won a corner and could have or even should have scored from sloppy marking but just missed out at the backpost. This was followed by the young yellows hitting back on the counter attack with Josh Wren sending a 30 yard screamer swerving through the air, only for the Woolwell keeper to superbly beat away. The half time whistle went and the scoreline stood at 0-0, with both teams showing some tremendous football and great spirit. The second half started and it was Tivvy who decided to take the game to Woolwell. A quick tempo and an attacking style gave Tivvy most of the chances in the second half. With 25 minutes left on the clock, substitute Koehan King came on to make a dramatic impact and within minutes lofted a great ball inbetween the 2 defenders which sent Callum Old through 1 on 1. With the keeper coming out to close him down, Callum produced the finish we are used to seeing from him, with a delightful lob to send the Tivvy players into the next gear. Credit must go to Woolwell who reacted well to the goal and had a 5 minute spell where they had a few corners but failed to make this pay. The yellows lifted the tempo again and began to threaten every time they went forward. With the partnership of Sam Baker and James Skinner at the back putting in last minute tackles at times, it gave the fullbacks and wingers confidence in going forward. With more chances created but wasted, it looked like it was going to be a very nervous final 10 minutes. With 7 minutes left on the clock, Josh Wren went on a skillful run and delivered a great ball where Callum Old helped along for Koehan to slot home Tivvys second and secure a place in the semi final. There was still enough time for Grant Milton, who also played very well when he came on, to make it 3 with a very well placed shot. The final score was 3-0 Tivvy and what a match it had been. The match had been played in great spirit and showed what great teams there are in Devon. With 2 semi final matches waiting, could the boys be on the way to the treble! Playing well were: Skinner, Sam Baker, Lewis Plackett, Adam Kana-ah, Adam Macmartin and man of the match Callum Old. A great display by both teams. Good luck to Woolwell for the rest of the season.
Extract from Woolwells manager "Congratulations to you and your team for a great performance today. It's always a pleasure to host teams such as yourselves and the parents too. The game was played in great spirit and whilst the result was not the one I was hoping for, I can certainly have no complaints. Good luck in the next round and I hope to see you in the final"

Tiverton U16s 10 v 0 Braunton - North Devon League - January - 2010

Tiverton U16s welcomed Braunton on what was to be a very good day for the yellows. With a change of formation and an early goal from center back Sam Baker, the young yellows set off as the meant to go on. With the strike force of Adam Macmartin, Owen Howe and Callum Old who now have over 40 goals between them looked lively all game and troubled Braunton non stop. With another goal from Sam Baker and further goals from Owen Howe, Josh Wren, Adam Macmartin and Callum Old, the score line stood at 6-0. Credit must go to Braunton who after being 6-0 down at half time, could have easily given up but kept going and showed fighting spirit right until the final whistle. With another 4 goals in the second half, Tivvy ran out 10-0 winners to go back on top of the league and also extend their run without conceding a goal to a very impressive 500 minutes of football. Goal Scorers were: Owen Howe 4, Adam Macmartin 2, Sam Baker 2 and Callum Old and Josh Wren each grabbing themselves one a piece. Man of the Match went too Owen Howe and Sam Baker.

Tiverton U16s 9 v 0 Central - Devon County Cup Round 2 - December 2009

On Sunday, Tiverton U16's travelled to Tamarside for what could possibly be their hardest game yet and the hardest game of the season. It proved to be exactly right. With the young yellows still hoping to complete the treble, this last 16 game was quoted by some as the 'final'. With Tiverton travelling over an hour which proved to be on a sunny day, the boys seemed up for it. This wasn't to be, as Tamarside came out the block very quickly and created chances early on to show everyone why they are possibly the favourites for the cup. The first half continued in this fashion with Tamarside having the majority of the possession but at the same time not looking to create anything serious. With the back four doing what they do best, they made sure Tamarside were restricted to only a few long shots and long throws. The yellows did occasionally go forward and have some of the ball but it's fair to say with the first half over, Tamarside could be scratching their heads wondering how they weren't winning. With a confident half time team talk and with the boys still believing in themselves, they came out and started the second half much more like the Tivvy side we have come used to watching. With Lewis Plackett having a great game and the centre back pairing of Jimbo and Sam Baker once again looking strong, we began to get on top of a very strong Tamarisde team. With everyone starting to pass the ball around, from Haydn and James Campbell, to Josh Wren and Adam Kana-ah the yellows looked the more dangerous side. With shots from Lewis Plackett and Callum Old missed, it was beginning to look like Extra Time was going to be needed. But with just 7 minutes left on the clock, great play by Ash Baker and Tim Lister gifted a great chance to the substitute Koehan King. With a ball threaded through the centre of the defence, Koehan ran on to it and slotted it past the on rushing keeper to give Tivvy the edge. With just 7 minutes left, naturally Tamarside claimed them. With just 30 seconds left Tamarsides striker looked to be sent through 1 on 1 with the OUTSTANDING Robbie Powell but for a fantastic last ditch tackle from Sam Baker who had no choice to make it and give away a corner. The box was full of Tamarside players and with a decent corner, the boys were very grateful to see Robbie Powell come out and claim the cross with great confidence. The final whistle went and the yellows claimed yet another clean sheet and yet another big important win. Credit must go to Tim Lister and Ash Baker who came on around half time and made a big difference to the Tivvy team. With Tivvy through to the quarter finals now, its back to the league next week when we entertain SAS. Goal Scorer was Koehan King and Man of the Match went too Lewis Plackett.

Tiverton U16s 9 v 0 Central - Devon County Cup Round 2 - December 2009

Tiverton U16's today welcomed Central U16's and finally on the 6th attempt managed to get the game played. It was round 2 of the Devon County Cup where the winners would earn themselves an exciting tie in the next round away to Tamarside. Tivvy started the brighter but did look a bit rusty after not playing for 6 weeks. This however didn't stop the likes of Callum Old, Adam Macmartin and Lewis Plackett bossing the game from start to finish and showing what great players they are. With Callums quick feet and his confidence building week by week he certainly didn't fail to deliver today with two very well taken goals. The forever consistent performer Adam Macmartin also bagged another hatrick which sees him extend his lead in the top goal scorer rankings. With the rock solid partnership of Jimbo and Sam Baker once again proving to be to strong for the opposing attack, the young yellows racked up their fourth consecutive clean sheet to bring it to a fantastic 9 clean sheets in 12 games against u16 teams this season. With the yellows bossing the game in almost every department, the result was never in doubt. From start to finish the players all worked hard and as a unit. The final score was 9-0 Tivvy. Goal scorers were: Adam Macmartin 3, Callum Old 2, The Mr Reliable Lewis Plackett 2, Ash Baker and Josh Wren one a piece. Men of the Match went too: Lewis Plackett, Callum Old and Adam Macmartin.

Torridgeside 0 v 3 Tiverton U16s - North Devon League - November 2009

The U16s had a top of the table clash on Sunday against Torridgeside, which proved to be a tough game on a very uneven pitch. The yellows didn't play great football throughout the game but didn't really need to either. With 5 players carrying injuries, if 3 points and a clean sheet was offered to us before the game, we would have been very happy to take it. However we had to play the game and at times switch the positions about which even meant we had a keeper upfront at some periods of the game. The game wasn't at a fast flowing tempo, with the pitch being uneven and the wind constantly blowing, the young yellows had to dig very deep and play ugly football at times. This wasn't going to stop the boys from being the better team and having most of the possession and chances. After missing a few chances, some clever play by Lewis Plackett led to an opening which Owen Howe calmly chipped over the on rushing keeper to give the yellows the lead. The game went on in this fashion but not without Torridgeside causing the back four a few problems and in fairness probably should have equalised and got back on level terms. This wasn't to be and with about 20 minutes left on the clock, Adam Kana-ah played the ball inside where Grant Milton played a delightful ball across to Koehan King who took a touch and then smashed it into the roof of the net from a very difficult angle to give us a bit of a cushion. Torridgeside kept coming at us in search for a goal but since a few nervy moments throughout the match from the back four, confidence was re-installed with that 2-0 cushion and from there on, the back four were back to their usual no mistakes solid defence. With 5 minutes left on the clock, Owen Howe scored his second to claim the points. Sam Baker then chucked himself at a decent cross from the Torridgeside winger which resulted in a clash of heads and Sam being taken off. One for the team. The final score was 3-0. Another clean sheet and yet another 3 points puts the yellows top of the table. Man of the match was Lewis Plackett who controlled the midfield through out. Our next league game is a week Sunday where we welcome Barnstaple to Ladysmead. Both teams are the last 2 teams who have an unbeaten status at the moment. Something has to give!!!!

Northam Lions 0 v 7 Tiverton U16s - North Devon League - October 2009

The U16's were away to Northam Lions on Sunday in the North Devon League. With a very uneven surface and the weather not helping either, it was tough for the young yellows to play their usual very good football. Instead we had to resort to putting the balls in decent areas and make sure we cancel out any sloppy mistakes in front of our goal. This was done very well for the majority of the game. It took 25 minutes for Tivvy to break Northam Lions down. Once we broke them down, the yellows were on top and proved to be worthy winners in the end. Credit to Northan Lions as they played some very nice football themselves sometimes and opened up the yellows but were guilty of not being able to take their chances. The final score was 7-0 Tivvy. Scorers were; Adam Macmartin 3, Owen Howe 2, Adam Kana-ah and Callum Old also got one a piece. Tivvy's next game is away to Torridgeside in what will be a top of the table clash next Sunday.

Tiverton U16s 10 v 0 Railway Beacon Youth - Devon County Cup October 2009

Tiverton U16's were drawn at home to Railway Beacon Youth in the first round of the Devon County Cup. On a wet and drizzly day, the match was played at a quick tempo. The Tivvy boys started off at a 4-4-2 and took the game straight to Railway Beacon Youth. With a few quick exchanges between the midfield, it took only 2 minutes for Koehan King to get himself on the score sheet. Just 5 minutes after, the lead was doubled through Koehan again. Railway Beacon then stabled themselves and began to get themselves back into the match and battled well through out. The class of the young yellows was too much for the Plymouth team as Adam Kana-ah and the skipper Jimbo with a fantastic header both scored to make it 4. The young yellows looked incredibly comfortable as they continued, like recent weeks, to boss the possession and territory and also looked very confident in themselves and each other. It wasn't very long until Callum Old then got himself on the score sheet, after being out injured he showed his class by ending up with a hatrick. Adam Macmartin also got a brace to put himself at the top of the goalscorers list. With a hatrick from Callum, a brace from Adam and Koehan, the best goal of the game came from Grant Milton who picked the ball up, took on 3 players with great quick feet, set himself up and hit the back of the next from 25 yards. This wrapped the game up and sent the yellows storming through to the second round. It also meant the boys hit 10 goals two weeks on the trot. The final score was 10-0. Playing well were the whole team but in particular: Jimbo, Haydn, Josh, Callum and Man of the Match went too, the new inspired Koehan King. The 16's next match is Bude in the League Cup.

Tiverton U16s 10 v 1 South Molton - North Devon League October 2009

Tiverton U16's continued their good form on Sunday when they welcomed South Molton to Ladysmead. South Molton being at the opposite end of the table to the yellows, didn't help themselves when they turned up with just eight players. The young yellows started well and soon enough and found chances coming thick and fast. With just 25 minutes in, Tivvy were already 3-0 to the good. It was decided by both managers that 3 of the Tivvy subs would go on and play for South Molton to make a game of it as it was agreed the result was awarded a win to Tiverton. Credit to the three Tivvy players as they worked hard and installed some shape to the South Moltons team but couldn't stop the goals coming. With a hatrick from Owen Howe and Adam Macmartin, the remaining 4 goals came from: Ash Baker, Sam Baker, Grant Milton and Adam Kana-ah. The only down side to the performance was the South molton goal that cost us the clean sheet. With a 10-1 win in total and another 3 points, the yellows still hold on to top spot. Men of the Match went too: Owen Howe and Adam Macmartin. Tivvy's next match is at home next Sunday against Railway Beacon Youth in the County Cup.

SAS 1 v 6 Tiverton U16s - North Devon League September 2009

Tiverton 16's this week travelled to SAS. With the boys on good form last week, the coaching staff and the fans wanted to see a repeat performance. The yellows started the game at a steady pace but controlled most of it without having to go up any gears. With SAS keeping their shape well and the Tivvy boys not prepared to go up a few gears, the chances were limited. Until the 30th minute when a SAS centre midfielder was given far too much time and controlled the ball well and hit a 30 yard shot that lobbed over keeper Robbie Powell. After the goal, Tivvy then stepped up the tempo and started playing quicker football on the ground. When the passing picked up and there was more urgency in the young yellows play, clear cut chances came thick and fast and within minute, the equiliser came through Tim Lister using his pace to beat his man and delivering a great cross the flew across the 6 yard box for Adam Kana-ah to head home. The yellows then scored another goal through on form Lewis Placket to ensure the scoreline at half time favoured the Tivvy boys. After speaking about playing the ball quicker and spreading the play at half time, the boys took this on board and kept the ball better, causing SAS many problems. Through another cross from Tim Lister, yet another problem was caused in the SAS penalty box and Koehan King made sure he beat the keeper to square it across for Owen Howe to tap home Tivvys thrid and his third in the season. 3-1 and the football began to flow at last. It was only a matter of time until Owen scored again, sending a shot from outside the box flying past the keeper and into the bottom corner to put the score at 4-1. The yellows then made it 5, when a great through ball was played to Adam Macmartin, who scored his fourth of the season to put him joint top goalscorer. the 6th and final goal came when Grant Milton powered a free kick home which left the keeper no chance. With yet another convincing win, the yellows are still unbeaten in the league with South Molton at home next week.

Tiverton U16s 6 v 0 Braunton - North Devon League Cup September 2009

Tiverton 16's welcomed Braunton to Ladysmead on Sunday. With the sun shining and the Ladysmead pitch once again looking spectacular, the young yellows produced again. With the Tivvy 16's side playing nice, quick football from the first whistle until the last, the score line reflected the percent in possession and territory in which the yellows were by far the more superior. With Lewis Plackett controlling the game in midfield and with James Skinner and Sam Baker once again producing a very good performance, the goals soon came. With Lewis Plackett scoring the first and the second, the boys went in at half time 2-0 up. It wasn't very long until Lewis scored his hatrick and started the second half the same way as he finished the first. Owen Howe then popped up with two good goals; one being a well placed header and Skinner 'the skipper' repeated Owen's goal when he also popped up with a great headed goal to give the final score a well deserved 6-0 win. With all the team playing very good football, the 3 points were vital but a clean sheet was just as impressive. Man of the Match went too Lewis Plackett. The 16's next game is Away to SAS next Sunday.

Tiverton U16s 1 v 0 Barnstaple Youth - North Devon League September 2009

Tiverton U16's entertained the League Champions and League Leaders on Sunday. On a narrow pitch from the word go it was clear to see Barnstaple came down with 1 plan and 1 plan only. That wasn't to play football against us! With the match starting in a scrappy manner and the Tivvy boys struggling to cope with the physical style of play that Barnstaple adopted, it was obvious that this game was not going to be a pretty one. With plenty of stoppages in the game and on a very hot day as well, credit must go to the boys who never stopped working and at times showed great discipline to not react to some of the outside interference that Barnstaple very cleverly created. The tivvy boys had a few spells in the first half which saw good passing football but sadly for the yellows, we didn't create much and saw half time come with very few events occurring. 0-0 at half time and the lads seemed down. With a very polite team talk and some strict advice and targets, the boys came out confident and started the better. Trying to play football, we were now creating some half chances. Barnstaple forced Millsy to make a save but other then that, once again the back four of Haydn, Jimbo, Sam and Jacob seemed too strong for yet another strike force to break down. With time closing in, there was only one team who looked like they wanted to win and hadn't settled for a point. Yes that was Tivvy. Going forward in numbers and taking a few risks, we started to open up the Barnstaple team. Missed chances from Josh Wren, Owen Howe, Callum Old and a sitter from Lewis Plackett meant everyone could be forgiven if they were beginning to think it just wasn't going to be our day. UNTIL, Adam 'The Bear' Macmartin latched on to a quick thinking through ball from Skipper 'Jimbo'. With a good touch away from the defender, Ads connected and beat the keeper from 20 yards to send all the team celebrating and to also give the great following of parents something to cheer about. With just 1 minute left on the clock, the lads cleared their lines to claim their second win of the season and yet another clean sheet. This wasn't the greatest performance the U16's have ever produced but it was the grittiest and most determined one. After the game, Jimbo 'the skipper' commented on the lads performance mentioning 'I thought it was a tough game and credit must go to Barnstaple as they were hard to break down but we never gave up and worked well as a team. From the keeper, right the way through to the strikers, we dug deep and at the end of the game, in my eyes we deserved the 3 points'. Playing well was: Sam Baker, Jacob O'callaghan, Haydn Banfield and Owen Howe. Men Of The Match had to go too: Jimbo and Ads who kept their discipline and looked sharp all game. Our next game is at home to Braunton next Sunday in the first round of the League Cup.

Tiverton U16s 3 v 0 Minehead Friendly September 2009

The 16's had their last friendly game of the season on Wednesday night. After a 45 minute journey to Minehead, it was good to see a good surface waiting for us and some good facilities. This was always going to be the hardest friendly, if not the hardest game, maybe all season. With Minehead U16's being the Taunton Youth League Top Division Champions and only losing a handful of games in the past 3-4 years, it was definitely going to be a test. Or was it? With a good warm up the boys looked up for it and were all 100% focused on the task ahead. Straight from the first whistle, the yellows were on top. With some very impressive football and patient build up play, Tivvy began to create chance after chance. With Ash Baker using his pace on the wing and Adam Kana-ah using his inch perfect crossing ability, the minehead fullbacks hardly had time to blink, let alone get out their final third. With Josh Wren once again on fine form, he gifted the strikers some very good chances to open up the scoring but Callum Old or Adam Macmartin were a bit unlucky at times to not do exactly that. Credit to the yellows as they kept the pressure on Minehead and with Minehead possibly having their best chance of the first half go 15 yards wide just before half time, the score was level 0-0. With a positive half time team talk and with the boys still buzzing and determined to keep a clean sheet and win the game, the second half picked up where the first half left off. Straight from the whistle once more, the yellows were back on top and had Minehead back in their half. It was looking like it was going to be a game of missed chances and a stalemate scoreline, until Minehead broke and got their first shot on target in the whole game which saw Robbie Powell have a lapse of concentration and let the ball go through his fingers but reacted brilliantly to claim the ball just before it went over the line. Moments after, the yellows got what they deserved with Adam Kana-ah popping up and grabbing a well deserved goal for his performance to put the yellows into a very much deserved lead. 1-0 up but still not satisfied the boys showed great spirit and willingness to play good football and create decent chances. Still with chance after chance coming are way, the lead was double about 10 minutes later through Callum Old. Minehead then broke and forced a great save from Robbie Powell who denied Minehead at only their second attempt on goal. With Jimbo and Sam Baker steady as a rock at the back throughout the whole game, the strikers working well together, the midfield playing very attractive football and the two trialists giving the manager a good problem to have, all that was left is a third goal by Lewis Plackett to round off a very impressive performance from goal keeper, right the way through to the strikers. 3-0 the final score and surely now the Tivvy team have got everyone sitting up and thinking. Great performance by all, but especially Man Of The Match, Josh Wren. The young yellows next game is at home on Sunday to League Champions Barnstaple Youth.

Tiverton U16s v Bude Town North Devon League September 2009

Tiverton U16's had their first league game this weekend which saw them travel to Bude. With most players having to get up at 6am, it was understandable to see some players getting off the mini bus yawning. Against a side who we knew nothing about, and a league that is also new to the lads, the yellows started well and took the game straight to their opponents. After just 10 minutes, Callum Old opened up the scoring with a smart finish to put Tivvy 1 nil to the good. With Bude causing a few problems, but nothing major, it was only a matter of time until Tivvy doubled their lead. With the very impressive Adam Kana-ah delivering pin point corners time after time, he decided to play it short which resulted in a good cross from Callum but an even better header from Adam Macmartin to make the scoreline 2-0. Within minutes after, following quick pass and move football, Callum Old scored again to put the yellows 3-0 up at Half Time. Bude came out the second half and started the brighter by winning a penalty and converting it. 3-1 the score and Tivvy had to react. Within 15 minutes MacMartin struck again and this time, it was a diving header which flew past the keeper to make it 4-1. With the yellows in cruise control it was only a matter of time until Callum Old got his hatrick. After new signing Jacob sent a great ball down the line to Owen Howe, who went through and could have scored himself but unselfishly found Callum who converted to seal the game up, confirm his hatrick and give Tivvy a very important first game win. Man Of The Match award went to Adam Kana-ah. With our first home game being next Sunday against a very tough Barnstaple outfit, the lads will be hoping for another good performance and yet another good following.

Tiverton U16s v Street U18s Friendly August 2009

The Under 16's had their toughest test yet. Away to Street U18's. After two very confident and impressive performances, the 16's had belief. Once again being commented on how smart the boys looked and how professional they were, the lads were on a high before the kick off. With great facilities and very friendly people, both teams and officials were focused. The yellows started well and controlled the first 25 minutes. With great pass and move football, Tivvy were looking like they could play in an U18's league. Tivvy then got the goal they deserved with a great through ball from Callum Old, and an equally impressive finish by Koehan King. 1-0 up and on top of the game, a cheap free kick was given away right on the edge of the yellows box. The free kick was blocked but scored on the rebound. The tivvy heads then began to drop for some strange reason and resulted in Street scoring another 2 in quick succession to lead 3-1 at half time. The second half saw Tivvy once again play some decent stuff and in many peoples eyes played the best football on the night when they had the ball. Credit to Street as their football was good and they took their chances to win the game 6-1. In fairness, the score doesn't give a true reflection of the game but Street were definitely worthy winners. The boys did them selves proud and should hold their heads high. Paying well were most of the team but in particular; Grant Milton, Ash Baker, Josh Wren, Adam kana-ah and Man of The Match went too Sam Baker.

v Dawlish Town August 2009

Tiverton U16's played their second friendly match together on Wednesday night. With the 'coaches' running late, the u16 boys have to have credit for playing the way they did and for waiting as long as they did. The yellows faced what could possibly be their toughest test of the season in some peoples eyes. With the boys looking smart and conducting themselves in a helpful and courteous way, it resulted in a very positive email being sent from the Dawlish United U16 Manager. After a quick rush to get through the warm up and back into the changing rooms, the boys looked focused. The game kicked off and credit to Dawlish as they started the brighter using their physical presence to their advantage but also playing some nice football too. After 15 minutes Tivvy got themselves back into the game with some quick and sharp football. With just after 30 minutes on the clock the yellows looked on top, pushing their opponents back into their own half for long periods of the game. On a slippy surface, the territory paid off for Tivvy when Ash Baker hit a shot from 25 yards out too beat the Dawlish keeper who could only stand and watch. The half time whistle went with both teams looking good and looking like 'footballing teams'. Changes were made to get everyone on. Both teams came out and played an open game with Dawlish having their spells but not really creating much, until the skipper of Dawlish hit a 25 yard shot spinning across the ground but only too be matched by a fantastic save from Steven Mills. Steven then had to make an even better save from a free kick and a few more after. Tivvy then had control for some periods which saw Owen Howe and Adam MacMartin create some good chances and Koehan King miss from 10 yards out. With Tivvy back on top and looking comfortable in possession, James Campbell hit an absolute screamer that has to be the best goal we will see this season. After switching the ball from right back, to centre back, to left back, James picked up the ball and travelled 10 yards into the opposing half and with a moment of genious hit a 35 yard strike that the Dawlish keeper could once again only stand and watch. With the score at 2-0, the game got stretched and Tivvy continued to spurn chances. The final whistle went and another good win was recorded. 2 goals, a clean sheet and a very good performance from the boys. Goal Scorers were: Ash Baker and James Campbell. Steven Mills played well in goal, along with Sam Baker, Max, Adam, Jimbo and Haydn also playing very well throughout the game. A special mention must go to the Under 15 boys who also played and did themselves proud. Overall with everyone playing well and earning the respect of Paul 'the Dawlish Manager', man of the match has to go to 'Grant Milton' who had a great work rate and showed great distribution of the ball.

v Newquay August 2009

Tivvy U16's had their first friendly game on Sunday which saw the squad include 3 trialists. After a 90 minute journey to Newquay, it was good to turn up and see a decent surface to play on. With a good following and a large squad size of 18, everyone was excited to see just how much potential the squad had for the season coming. The match kicked off on time and with it clearly showing, this was the first match the boys had played together after trailing for the squad. It took the yellows 15 minutes to create half a chance. The Newquay team then went on to control most of the first half, being very dominant with possession but not being able to break the young yellows down. Tivvy had to go through stages of being spectators and watching Newquay pass the ball around very impressively but credit to the yellows, as they kept their shape, worked hard as a unit and protected the goal as well as they could. Newquay had to settle for just a few free kicks about 25 yards out as they could not break Tivvy down and get any closer to the yellows goal. Just when the team talk was planned and the credit was going to be given for keeping their shape, Tivvy caught Newquay on the break. With not long to go until Half Time, the yellows broke quickly and against the run of play, a 25 yard screamer from Josh Wren sent the boys into half time 1-0 up. The boys knew they had more to give in the second half and with players having to get on for the second half, the team formation was slightly changed. The yellows came out and started the stronger in the second half, showing Newquay that we could also keep the ball well but in their territory. It didn't take long until one of the four U15 players (Tylor Grigg) on the pitch for the second half took control of the game by sending yet another 25 yard half volley crashing against the crossbar and behind the line to put the score at 2-0. Newquay then went flat and the yellows then controlled the rest of the game. With Koehan (a trialist) scoring two more and Owen Howe sending a shot against the post, the final whistle went and a thoroughly deserved win was recorded. Lewis Plackett and Sam Baker were named man of the match, with Tylor Grigg, Robbie Pengally, Josh Wren and Koehan having great games as well. The potential is there for everyone to see, with friendlies coming thick and fast, Tivvy U16's must carry this on and turn potential into reality.
