Stoke Hill 1 v 3 Tiverton Town U9 Whites - Exeter Youth League - April 2010
Tivvy whites went into these last 2 league fixtures with the attitude that coming away with 2 wins was the only option, thus securing, at minimum a 2nd place finish in the progress league. First up were a strong stoke hill team who we have endured previous close games against. So the lads went out from the start and applied immediate pressure to try and kill off the game in the first half. Tivvy pressure resulted in a couple corners, which the lads didn't make the most of, but when the third corner came in centre back Lucas White made an instinctive run to the near post and slotted in the low corner first time with a nice side-foot to take the lead. Tivvy built on this and with the midfield trio of Harry Butler, Liam Gilbard and Joe Greenslade working extremely hard to push forward eventually the second goal came after top goalscorer Lloyd White picked up a loose ball, made room for himself on the edge of a crowded box and slotted home. Stoke hill reacted well towards the end of the half forcing a good save from Isaac Dawdry and a close shot after a good corner. But other than that much else in the first half at the back was nicely cleared up from Harry Stoneman playing alongside Lucas White at the back. The second half was much more contested as Stoke hill pushed two up front to try and get back in the game, but tivvy defended well and still created their own chances in attack, to be fair the score could of been more to tivvy had it not been for the Stoke hill keeper who played extremely well. The third goal came after a nice one two put Joe Greenslade through but the keeper saved well, the clearance however was picked up by Harry Butler who charged into the box and cooly slotted it past the oncoming keeper. Stoke hill came back strong with some attacking play and had two free kicks towards the end, one striking the woodwork and getting cleared by Reuben Buss, who came on at half time and defended well, especially as Stoke hill were far stronger in this half. And the second free kick was a nice strike which ended up as more of a consolation goal. Credit must go to Stoke hill for their second half effort but for me the tivvy lads didn't look at all worried they would loose their lead. Well done lads, another good team performance.
Heavitree 2 v 9 Tiverton Town U9 Whites - Exeter Youth League - March 2010
This being tivvy's final league game was a good way to end the season. It was certainly a game of two halves. Tivvy were shooting up hill the first half, and the team was completely changed around giving opportunities to see the lads in different possition's. Tivvy took an early lead from a super individual run from Lloyd White playing on the left wing, cutting inside, going past two maybe three defenders and thumping into the roof of the net. Lloyd White then made it two nil with a cool finish inside the box. But Heavitree responded well and scored two consecutive goals to pull the score level. Tivvy pressured back and some good work by Harry Stoneman upfront forced a defensive error with an own goal. Tivvy then made it 4-2 just before half time with Lloyd White again supporting well in attack and finishing well for his hat-trick,. The half finished with a Heavitree strike just going wide. The second half however was all about tivvy, the lads were put back into their strongest possitions and were fluent in attack. A good cross from Joe Greenslade struck the defender and ended in the net for another unfortunate own goal for Heavitree to make the score 5-2. A couple minutes later a great takle from Reuben Buss and a pass to Lucas White saw Lucas creep just over the halfway line and strkie an awesome shot which sailed into the very top corner to make it 6-2. Lloyd White again got on the scoresheet with his 4th and Joe Greenslade and Harry Butler both hit mirrored good strike's coming in from opposite wings to make the score 9-2. Liam Gilbard worked hard all game, breaking down any Heavitree play. Reuben Buss had a good game and was pushed up front for the last five minutes to try and get on the scorelist and was awarded man of the match for all his effort.Well done to the tivvy whites, an absolutely awesome first season of football.
