Tiverton U18’s 4 - 1 Weston Super-Mare

After the previous two results for the Thursday night team and with 16 players out injured, you would be justified in thinking that WSM would have a straightforward game that they would easily win.  What joy it is to be able to write that Tivvy romped home 4-1 winners in a game they dominated from start to finish with WSM having very few chances to make any impact on the game due to the sheer work rate and commitment of the Tivvy players on the pitch that night.

The game started at a pace and it looked fairly even for the opening exchanges before a great ball out from the back was flicked on by Ryan Turner in the midfield are for Owen Howe to run onto and the run in on goal ended with a superb finish to put Tivvy 1 – 0 up.  Tivvy continued to press on and with the desire to extend their lead got caught napping at the back allowing WSM to hit a great strike making it 1 – 1 .

The Yellows were in no mood to throw away a chance to get themselves back into winning ways and Ben Friend came close to extending the lead after Oli Nott sent a get through ball to the feet of Friend, but his shot went straight into the arms of the keeper. Provider turned scorer in the 40th minute when Turner managed to poke the ball in from close range in a goal mouth scramble that was the result of a well flighted Free kick into the danger area.

The first half ended 2 – 1 to Tivvy with the second half seeing the introduction of Steve Sutton to replace Oli Nott who took a knock to the head late in the first half. Tivvy had a an early let off when some sloppy defending forced the Yellows Goal Keeper for the evening Dan Law to make a great save, it appeared to be the wake up call Tivvy needed and when the ball was sent out it was Turner who picked up the play and a great bit of vision from home resulted in the lead being extended. His run through the midfield saw him take a look up to notice the WSM keeper off his line and an exquisite long range lob left the keeper stranded and gave Tivvy a 3-1 lead.

Tivvy continued to press looking for more goals and some superb play by Ash Small in the middle of the Park and Adam Kana-ah saw them provide numerous chances for the forwards and a one such through ball was met by Sutton who slammed the ball into the back of the net to make it 4 – 1 to Tivvy. Small and Kana-ah were both unfortunate themselves when Small’s shot was parried out into the path of Kana-ah who couldn’t quite get his body over the ball.

What a delight to see the lads playing so well as a unit and long may it continue.
