Under 15 Boys - More News & Reports

Sidmouth Town 0 v 13 Tiverton Town

Tiverton travelled to Sidmouth Town in the second round of the cup not quite knowing what to expect with Sidmouth playing in League 3.  It was very windy conditions for both sides which never gave up all through the game and with both teams looking to get the ball down and play football it was Tivvy’s persistent pressure that paid off, creating bucket loads of scoring opportunities going into the break with an 8-0 lead.  Tivvy picked up where they left off in the second half with a further 5 goals to round off the rout 13-0.  Although Tivvy had to work harder in the second half Sidmouth’s never give up attitude forced a couple of great saves from the yellows keeper Jordan Tinham.  Goal scorers – Josh Hopkins (3), Joey Sellick (3), Jack Rainey (2), Ross Oaten (2), Olli Morgan, Sam Warren and Scott Billing.

The whole team of Jordan Tinham, Josh Hart, Jimmy Balkwill, Johnny Oliver, Max Atifeh, Olli Morgan, Scott McMillan, Will Pinnick, Scott Billing, Jack Rainey, Josh Hopkins, Joey Sellick, Ross Oaten and Sam Warren all playing well.

Despite the score line the Sidmouth players and supporters were a credit to youth football and very gracious after defeat.  We wish them all the best in their respective league for the rest of the season.

Okehampton Argyle  0 - 2 Tiverton Town U15’s

Tiverton were away to Okehampton which is always a tough place to go for any team and Oke contested the first half very well with the yellows but it was Tivvy who had to  reflect on missed opportunities and could have been a couple of the goals to the good but had to go into the break with a goalless draw at half time.

The second half saw Oke come out the brightest and were at times putting Tivvy on the back foot but after 15 minutes with an excellent run from Jack Rainey who took care of the ball well to reverse a cross field pass right to the feet of Scott Billing who put in an equally fine cross to find the head of Josh Hopkins to finish off this passage of play to put the yellows 1-0 up.  This seemed to spur the yellows on who were now playing some good football but it was the work rate from Jack Rainey who supplied another excellent ball into the box for Sam Warren to head the ball home to put the game beyond Oke’s reach for any chance of a comeback.  This was by far Tivvys best display this season with all the players showing great character and determination.  A standout performance from Man of the Match Jack Rainey and strong performances from Olli Morgan, Scott Billing, Josh Hart, Johnny Oliver and Jordan Tinham.  With the rest of the team all having to play well in extremely hot conditions.

Bideford Town AFC U15’s  0 - 5  Tiverton Town U15’s

Tiverton were away to newly formed Bideford AFC Youth in the first round of the County Cup who play all their home games on the main Bideford Town pitch and what a pitch to play on the playing surface was superb.  Tiverton started at a high tempo and took the game to Bideford and were soon ahead in the first 4 minutes when a strong run from Jack Rainey saw him shoot home to put the yellows ahead.  The size of the pitch seemed to suit the yellows and it wasn’t long before more good work created more goal scoring opportunities with Josh Hopkins at hand to grab his brace and an excellent strike from Ollie Morgan outside the box to take the yellows to a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break.

Bideford came out in the second half causing a few problems and had some good spells themselves but Tivvy defended well as a team to stop any chance of a comeback for the Robins.  With a lot of the ball being played in the wrong areas in this half Tivvy put a rare ball in the channel which Jack Rainey was quick to get in behind the defence to strike home Tivvys 5th and to finish the game off.

Strong performances from Olli Morgan, Jack Rainey, Jimmy Balkwill, Jonathan Oliver, Marcus Old, Max Atifeh and Man of the Match for an outstanding performance to Scott Billing.

Special thanks to Peter and the boys for their hospitality and all the best for the rest of the season.

Tiverton Town 5 - 3 FC Heavitree

The game started very open and Heavitree were certainly up for this which made for a very close first half.  Heavitree opened the scoring half way through the first half with Tivvy drawing level 1-1 before the half time break through Josh Hopkins.

In the second half Tivvy got on top and took the lead with another goal from Josh Hopkins but against the run of play the yellows gifted the Heavies with an over hit back pass and a lack of communication between the keeper and defender put the ball into his own net to level the game.  Within 5 minutes and poor defending from a set piece the yellows let in another soft goal at the far post. Tivvy certainly had enough chances of their own, and eventually equalised again with a ball into the box with enough players at hand to make sure Josh Hopkins headed the ball home to grab his hatrick to even the game once again 3-3.  With the game looking to finish 3-3 the last 10 minutes saw both teams spurn chances, but it was Tivvy who upped the tempo and with an excellent right sided run from Jack Rainey to put in a much needed ball, Will Pinnick made no mistake of wasting the chance to slot home to give Tivvy a 4-3 lead.  This was by far Tivvy’s best spell in which the yellows got the balls into the right areas to win the game with Will Pinnick clipping the ball In the top left corner to put the game beyond the Heavies reach.  Heavitree were very unlucky not to have got something out of the game and to go away with nothing must have been hard to take, but the commitment was excellent from the yellows in the last 10 minutes, on the other hand a very lack lustre performance and a lack of communication let the yellows down today.  Not many strong performances today but a deserved Man of the Match goes to Jimmy Balkwill.

All the best and a speedy recovery to Sam Warren who came off the pitch a bad break to his hand.
