Tivvy U12's 3 v 1 Cheddar Valley
Youth
With Tivvy topping the Taunton
Youth league and the Cheddar Valley team coming runners up in the
Woodspring League, it was clear from the outset this was going to be
a very competitive friendly game. With the midday sun almost upon us
it was decided to split the game into 3 twenty minutes halves which
was a great decision as the weather was tremendous and no doubt the
hottest day of the year so far.
It was a bright start by both sides
with Cheddar showing the type of competitive skill that the Tivvy
boys had not been exposed to often enough throughout the 07/08
season. It brought out the best in the Tivvy boys who were using the
width of the pitch well with Max Bristow dominating the right hand
for large periods of the first 20 minute session. Tivvy continual
pressure was rewarded after about 8 minutes when the ball was played
down the other wing to eventually be met by Daniel Nation who fired
a well controlled low shot across the goalkeeper into the back of
the net, making it 1-0. Tiverton kept the Cheddar boys penned in
their own half up until around the 15 minute mark when Cheddar made
sure Tivvy realised they were in a game with some great play in
mid-field that resulted in a few chances on goal but the back three
of Jason Allington, George Gardiner and Callum Burgin made sure
there was no finishing result. Tivvy were unlucky not to go 2-0 up
after a cute bit of play in the penalty area, where Bristow, Drew
Laskey and Lewis White played the ball between themselves before
White unleashed a shot that narrowly missed the target. All the boys
were looking extremely hot and were no doubt glad to hear the
whistle for the end of that period
The second period started with
Cheddar Valley showing determination and great desire to win and
within the opening few moments substitute goalkeeper Darren Paul was
well tested when he was forced to catch a “bandits at 12 o’clock”
shot that came straight at him out of the sun. After the initial
barrage from Cheddar the Tivvy boys settled back into playing again
with Jake Burridge up front having a few chances on goal but finding
it very difficult as he was often isolated and in need of more
support up front. The second goal came from Jack Rainey after a
scrappy build-up that saw him chip the keeper with a very mature for
a player so young. Tivvy appeared to be in control of the game
throughout the rest of the second period, although the lacked
penetration and appeared to be making hard work of getting through
the Cheddar midfield. Just before the final whistle of the second
period, Drew Laskey sent in a cross in front of goal that just
needed a touch that would have sent Tivvy further in front.
The third and final phase started
with Tivvy well and truly on top and after a few moments Burridge
came close to extend the lead but the ball was sent back out into
play only for Josh Kallaway to take control of it and, with his back
to goal, he managed to turn the defender before unleashing the shot
across goal giving the keeper no chance and making it 3-0.
Throughout the third phase Scott McMillan, Man of the Match, showed
footballing skills far advanced of his age when he was supplying the
front men from midfield with some exquisite passing. Cheddar did
manage to get one goal back after a corner kick took an unfortunate
deflection off the boot of a Tivvy defender. Although the score
remained 3-1 Tivvy finished on a high when Bristow came back on and
worked well with Alan Woodcock up front. Tivvy were unlucky not to
make it 4 after Woodcock split the defenders with a superb through
ball that saw Bristow able to charge down the line but the angle for
his shot was just too acute.
A great display of football from
the Tivvy boys against a very competent, skilful side and a great
test of how the Tivvy boys will fare next season against tougher
opposition in division 1.

Westonzoyland 2 v 10
Tivvy U12's
Tivvy went into this game knowing
full well that having already won the League title, knock out cup,
and the R & T Bournemouth Classic, what they were playing for today
was to maintain their 100% win record in league and cup games. They
rose to the challenge well and it wasn’t long before the goals
started. Within the first minute Alan Woodcock was presented with
an opportunity to strike on goal, which went straight into the arms
of the keeper. He very quickly made amends when in the 3rd
minute Max Bristow threaded a ball through which looked like going
straight to the arms of the keeper who fumbled it only for Woodcock
to slam the ball past him, making it 1-0. Only moments later with
the constant pressure that Tivvy were applying, Woodcock found
himself 3 yards out from an open goal and somehow managed to hit the
ball over the bar. The second goal came around the 9 minute mark
when yet another Dan Nation and Bristow corner-header combination
hit the back of the net.
There was some great movement from
the Tivvy boys and I can only assume the speed of Woodcock caught
the defender out when Bristow put the ball through to him again in
the penalty area, only for Woodcock to be fouled giving away a
penalty. Today’s goalkeeper, Darren Paul, stepped to take the
penalty which he coolly and calmly slotted in to the right-hand side
of the keeper making it 3-0. The lead was extended further just
before 20 minutes when Lewis White, coming from midfield, fired the
ball into the danger area that was at a great height for Woodcock to
meet mid-flight and athletically score his 2nd of the
game.
Almost straight from the re-start
Tivvy were back in Westonzoyland’s half applying enormous pressure.
Jason Allington took a throw in which went to the feet of Bristow,
who launched the ball over the top for Ollie Main to run on to and
slot past the keeper, making it 5-0. The Tivvy boys were
unrelenting and within 2 minutes were back in the opposition’s
penalty area where they earned another corner kick, which Nation
delivered low and hard into the throng of players and, after a
goalmouth scramble, Allington knocked in number 6. The remaining 5
minutes of so of the first half were spent with Nation pumping in
corners and that prevented the scoreline from reaching double
figures were some good stops by the Zoyland keeper after Jake
Burridge sent a header goalward and Woodcock’s attempts on goal were
also stopped. Two minutes into added time, the score went to 7-0
after an unfortunate own goal from the Westonzoyland defender who,
had he been attacking, would have been very proud of the quality of
the delivery he made.
The second half started with Tivvy
playing into the wind against a much changed formation from
Westonzoyland, who had decided to start with 5 at the back. Tivvy
started well with a few opening chances but were unable to finish
after constantly being met by a black and white striped wall.
Around about 10 minutes into the
second half there was an enormous cheer from the Westonzoyland
supporters after they managed to pull a goal back when their lone
striker managed to run between Callum Burgin and George Gardiner
before slotting the ball across the goalkeeper’s path. It may well
have been a wake-up call for the Tivvy boys who surely could not
have seen it coming, but they did then start to play some wonderful
football but were finding it very difficult to get through the, what
was now an 8 man Westonzoyland defence. Goal number 8 did come and
it went to Jake Burridge after Zak Morgan and Burridge played a cute
set of combinations between each other that resulted in Burridge
getting his shot off on goal. The Tivvy boys were further shocked
when Westonzoyland pulled pack another goal, which was the result of
an unlucky bounce over the top of Darren Paul.
With less than 10 minutes to play,
Woodcock got his hat-trick with a well taken shot on the edge of the
penalty area after finding a very small opening in the now tiring
defence. He finished the scoring, making it 10-2 with a short range
shot after some more great interlinking football from the Tivvy
boys.
Although the boys let 2 goals in, I
think they can be forgiven for that when you look at their record of
only conceding 17 goals in total throughout the whole season in the
league, whilst putting 193 goals past their opposition, and gaining
a maximum 54 points from a possible 54.

Bournemouth Classic Tour
Day 1 Game 1: 2.15pm
Staines Albion 0 – 2 Tiverton Town Youth Under 12s
First impressions are not always
correct. I watched Staines warm up and, along with their
appearance, it looked very much like this would be a straightforward
and easy win for Tivvy. It was not the case as Staines proved to be
very tough opponents for the opening game. All the early pressure
came from Tivvy who kept them penned into their own half but were
unable to break down a tough defence. On several occasions in the
first half Alan Woodcock and Jack McGovern managed to break through
the defence but their one on one opportunities were very well
stifled by a determined goalkeeper. Tivvy continued to build the
pressure and a great move from Josh Kite in mid-field fed the ball
wide to Callum Burgin who knocked it up the line to Daniel Nation
who was stopped on this occasion by some very physical defending.
The remainder of the first half was fairly uneventful except for one
further opportunity where George Chamberlin managed to squeeze the
ball out to Max Bristow on the edge of the box, whose shot went wide
of the target.
The second half started with
Staines looking very lively and quite clearly looking to take the
game to Tivvy but they had no way of getting through the Tivvy back
row. The next chance of the game went to McGovern when again he was
through after some more skilful play from midfield but the shot went
wide. McGovern was again in action moments later with another one
on one opportunity that took some brave goalkeeping to stop the
shot. Debutant Kite had a great shot on goal but again the keeper
stopped the ball. With only a few minutes of the game left it was
looking like the dreaded 0-0 was about to happen but the Staines
boys were extremely tired at the back and the fitness of Tivvy
showed through when Nation was sent the ball by Drew Laskey for him
to unleash a powerful shot that, on this occasion, the keeper didn’t
stop, making it 1-0. Nation doubled the lead almost straight from
the restart, finishing the game 2-0 and giving Tivvy their first 3
points.

Game 2: 4.15pm
Ashton Boys (A) 0 – 3 Tiverton Town Youth Under 12s
This game saw Tivvy up against a
large and extremely physical side who were taking no prisoners. All
the early play went the way of Tivvy with Alan Woodcock having a
chance to open the scoring when he tried to lob the keeper, only for
it to be knocked out to Max Bristow who passed the ball into Josh
Kite, but Josh’s knock was a little too long and the move ended with
the keeper holding on. The opening goal almost came not long after
from a moved start by Jason Allington, who knocked the ball long for
Daniel Nation, allowing him to knock it in to Ollie Main in front of
goal who managed to fire it high and wide. Tivvy were fortunate not
to go one behind straight from the goal kick which was hit long for
the Ashton lads up front, who crossed it in, beating the keeper,
leaving it for Bristow to clear off the line. It was clearly the
wake-up call that was needed as the Tivvy boys played the ball down
field releasing Woodcock into the area, who unleashed a powerful
strike that ricocheted back off the crossbar straight to his foot,
only for him to be beaten again by the upright and it was the quick
thinking of Main running in that allowed Tivvy to take the lead with
a well taken strike. The first half continued with the Tivvy boys
getting into their stride and showing some good strong play and
interlinking movement from midfield that was giving the wingers, and
the lads up front, the opportunities to try and score, the closest
chance of which fell to Nation, but he was unable to finish, leaving
the score at 1-0 at the end of the first half.
The second half started again with
it being all Tivvy and the first chance of the second half fell to
George Chamberlin, who was through for yet another one on one with
the goalkeeper but the braveness of the keeper prevented him from
scoring. The game was marred by an incident that left Josh Kite
having to leave the field with his arm in a sling and a suspected
collar bone injury (we wish Josh a speedy and full recovery from his
injury, and hope to see him back soon). It was clear this affected
the Tivvy boys but only in a positive way as they upped their game
from this point considerably and several chances went begging before
the lead was extended by Ollie Main who, after some great build-up
play, fired the ball across the goalkeeper into the far corner of
the net for a superb finish. The third and final goal of this game,
I would suspect you would be hard pushed to see a finer goal than
the one that put Tivvy 3-0 up when the ball came from the Tivvy
penalty area with one touch passes up the line and across the field
before it finished at the feet of Drew Laskey who rammed the ball
into the net to give the Tivvy boys their second, and very much
deserved win of the day, which made it 6 points and top of the table
going into the second day.

Day 2
Game 1: 10.15pm
Riverview United 1 – 2 Tiverton Town Youth Under 12s
The boys and the management team
had already seen the table that showed Riverview in third place
overall after day 1 and they were under no illusion that this was
going to be a very difficult game. Tivvy started the brighter with
a few half-chances, the first of which saw Max Bristow send the ball
through to George Chamberlin in the middle of the park, who managed
to weave his way through the back row, but his strike went wide.
The next opportunity dropped to Jack McGovern after a superb through
ball from Lewis White gave McGovern the opportunity to run from some
30 yards out at the keeper, but the Riverview keeper read the
situation well and came to meet Jack to stop his shot. Moments
later Jack had a carbon copy opportunity with the same outcome. It
seemed that everything was at the Riverview end and it was only
their keeper again who kept the score to 0-0 after Alan Woodcock’s
corner was headed goalwards by McGovern. With the quality of the
opposition it was clear there would be times when Tivvy would have
to defend and they did so admirably as the Riverview wide men were
crossing some great balls in the first half that needed the back row
to keep their concentration. Riverview came very close to taking
the lead around the 17th minute in the first half when they were
awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the area, but it was well
dealt with by Darren Paul. The first half ended 0-0 and the Tivvy
boys were probably glad of the break as at this point they were
struggling to keep the opposition out.
The second half started with both
sides clearly looking for the goal that would put them in a strong
position going into their second match of the day later. It was
Tivvy who did manage to take the lead with a well taken goal by
McGovern after being put through by Daniel Nation. This was not
before Woodcock missed an opportunity to take the lead when the
keeper fumbled the ball, but it was under Woodcock’s feet, who
managed to push it out, only for Drew Laskey to fire it over the
bar. Tivvy only managed to hold onto the lead for about 3 minutes
after Riverview equalised with a scrappy goal that was bobbling
about in the area, and with all the bodies in the way Paul had
little opportunity to see the ball before it was in the net. Max
Bristow, who had only been on for about two minutes, had to go off
with what appeared to be a serious knee injury after a challenge
from one of the Riverview players. The resultant free kick was
taken by Jason Allington who flighted the ball well to put it over
the top to be met by Alan Woodcock who hit the back of the net to
make it 2-1. Thankfully the injury to Bristow was not as serious as
first thought. A bacon roll, an ice-cream and a drink soon put it
right!
Riverview continued to put pressure
on the Tivvy defence but it was to no avail as the Tivvy boys held
strong and kept position finishing the game 2-1 winners and adding
another 3 points to their tally to keep them at the top of the
table.

Game 2: 12.15pm
Ashton Boys (B) 2 – 8 Tiverton Town Youth Under 12s
Prior to the game starting it was
pointed out by Max Bristow that there had been a serious bouncy
castle incident the previous day that had left somebody injured, so
it was clear he was either very relaxed, or his mind just wasn’t on
the game. Read on to find out which it was!
Strangely, the Tivvy boys appeared
to be nervous for the first few moments and didn’t seem to be able
to get their game together. However, within a short space of time
the cross field movement and midfield interlinking was back in
place. The first real shot of the game came from Lewis White, but
the Ashton keeper made a very good save and pushed the ball out for
a corner. Alan Woodcock fired the ball into the danger area in
front of the keeper and with the goalmouth scramble that ensued, Max
Bristow managed to push the ball in settled everyone’s nerves, to
make it 1-0. Moments later another corner, this time taken by
Daniel Nation, went right across the goal mouth and passed the feet
of three Tivvy players, who didn’t stretch out a foot to knock it
in, only for the ball to go out the other side for a throw-in. With
the Ashton boys having already taken two heavy defeats they looked
like they didn’t want to take a third but the Tivvy boys continued
to press forward with much of the play in the Ashton half, and the
next opportunity fell to Callum Burgin whose attempt at lobbing the
keeper almost succeeded but not quite. The chances continued thick
and fast with Nation firing in for the keeper to catch, Bristow
shooting high and the Ashton defenders looking desperate. Around
about the 22 minute mark Bristow was through for yet another one on
one, but he waited too long to shoot, giving the keeper the
opportunity to smother the ball. Moments before half-time there was
a very uncharacteristic mistake by Tivvy’s keeper Darren Paul when
he took his goal kick that went straight to the feet of the Ashton
front man stood on the edge of the penalty box. The keeper redeemed
himself with his first real save from the shot that came but he was
only able to parry the ball out for the striker to knock in making
it 1-1. The first half finished 1-1.
The second half began with the
Tivvy lads realising that they had to up their game if they were to
get something out of this and up their game they did! A little over
5 minutes into the second half the passing play was again very
fluent and the ball was threaded through from midfield to George
Chamberlin who fire from short range, making no mistake to make it
2-1. Moments later Tivvy were back in the Ashton penalty area and
Jack McGovern put in the third making it 3-1. The fourth goal came
with a move right from the back that saw Cameron O’Donnell knock the
ball up the line to Nation, to knock on to Woodcock who coolly put
it in the net, making it 4-1. The next opportunity fell to Jason
Allington who had a long range shot and unfortunately for him it
went slightly wide. 5-1 came from the foot of Bristow after he was
in on goal from a great cross ball that was placed at his feet from
McGovern. The boys continued to play what looked very much at times
like exhibition football, when Bristow slotted the ball in from the
wing to Chamberlin who was again in on goal and again made no
mistake to make it 6-1. This game seemed like it was going to be a
game of unlucky lobs but it still didn’t stop Ollie Main trying.
I wasn’t sure what happened but the
referee adjudged there to have been a foul on an Ashton player right
on the edge of the Tivvy penalty area. The free-kick was lobbed
into a crowd of bodies and after another goal mouth scramble they
managed to push the ball over the line to make it 6-2. Straight
from the kick-off it was almost as if there really was only one team
on the pitch and not content with a 6-2 scoreline, Tivvy continued
to push for more goals and they weren’t disappointed. After being
awarded a free-kick some 25 yards out, Jason “check out this right
foot” Allington hammered the ball into the top corner of the net to
make it 7-2. With only moments to go Bristow got his third of the
game from a short range effort inside the penalty area.
Another great victory for the Tivvy
lads, 3 more points taking them to 12, remaining at the top of the
leader board knowing that whatever result came of Thursday’s early
game they were in the final.

Day 3
Game 1:
10.15pm
Tiverton Town Youth 1-2 Ridgeway Rovers
With both teams realising that this
was going to be the first of two meetings today, the second of which
would the tournament final as Tivvy were in first position and
Ridgeway in an uncatchable second place. Tivvy boys were clearly
not going to bust a gut in a game which was not really necessary.
They started well and appeared
unphased by the size of their opponents and the reputation they
brought with them of David Beckham being an ex-player and him being
their club president. The Tivvy boys were pushing forward in the
opening moments and got caught cold with an over the top ball to
Ridgeway’s big front man whose pace on this occasion was too much
for the back row. He was through on goal and Darren Paul had no
chance of stopping the shot that came. Straight from the restart
Tivvy were down the Ridgeway end and earned themselves a corner,
which was fired in to the edge of the box and the defender handled
the ball on the blind side of the referee to help clear it away.
Just before the ten minute mark the strange decisions started with
Ridgeway being awarded two free kicks close to the edge of the Tivvy
box in short succession of one another, which were well dealt with
by the Tivvy defence. A couple of moments later Max Bristow had to
be carried from the field (not for the first time this week) after a
clumsy challenge by one of the Ridgeway midfield players that saw
him stand on Bristow’s ankle. The 17 minute mark saw Ridgeway go 2-0
up after a lack of concentration at the back saw them have an easy
tap in from close range.
Being 2-0 down is not something the
Tivvy lads are used to and although they were treating this game as
more of a warm up and exercise session they started to push harder
with some great football that saw their opportunities begin with a
Jason Allington free kick from long range that unfortunately went
straight to the keeper’s arms, closely followed by a shot from Alan
Woodcock that, had it been on target, would probably have broken the
net. The first half ended 2-0 but it was clear from the football
being played the better team was not in front.
The second half started as it
continued for most of the 25 minutes with Tivvy in the ascendancy
and they pulled a goal back from a well taken Woodcock corner that
Jack McGovern fired past the floundering keeper. The school of
funny decisions continued when Paul the goalkeeper was adjudged to
have fouled the Ridgeway striker in what was clearly a 50-50
challenge on the edge of the box that resulted in Paul having to be
substituted in goal by McGovern due to the injury inflicted on
Paul. Tivvy were extremely unlucky not to get an equaliser when
George Chamberlin couldn’t quite finish after some great
interlinking play between the midfielders. The game ended 2-1 and
proved a great opportunity for the Tivvy boys to see the style of
team they were going to be up against in a few hours time. Ridgeway
were a very physical side who appeared to rely on their big front
man to support most of their play. They were made very aware that
the Tivvy boys were there to win and I suspect they were very
surprised by the indepth quality of the team.

Final: 1.15pm
Tiverton Town Youth 3-1 Ridgeway Rovers
Having seen what they were up
against it would have been easy for many a young side to have
capitulated before the starting whistle as the Ridgeway team were
clearly a quality side. However, this game will be one of those
that is talked about and remembered for many years to come as the
quality, determination and skill of the Tivvy boys who were
confronted with, at times, sheer aggression was truly outstanding.
From the outset the Tivvy boys were
at Ridgeway, who found it nigh on impossible to get hold of the ball
as Tivvy were first almost every time, and when they weren’t first
they were second and they were there in numbers. The first chance
for Tivvy came very early on in the opening moments when Daniel
Nation was sent a ball over the top which he fired narrowly wide
across goal. Five minutes into the game yet another Tivvy player had
to go off with an injury. This time it was Drew Laskey. Ridgeway
managed to venture into the Tivvy half on a couple of occasions,
only for their tall striker to be stopped dead in his tracks on
every occasion by Daniel Nation and anything coming from midfield
was dealt with equally as well by Callum Burgin and George Gardiner.
It was only a matter of time before Tivvy were going to score, and
when it came in the 14th minute it came with style as
Alan Woodcock had the ball slipped through to him to run in on goal
and unleash a shot that was heartbreaking for the keeper, as he
could get nowhere near it. 1-0.
The goal inspired the Tivvy boys
even more and the remaining 11 minutes of the first half was a
constant barrage of shots from Tivvy, the first of which came from
Max Bristow who fired the ball in, straight into the hands of the
keeper. Bang on the 20 minute mark there was a momentary hushed
silence as the ball left Dan Nation’s foot from some 25 yards out to
lob the keeper, which he did successfully, and one side of the pitch
exploded in jubilation. The Ridgeway boys must have been glad to
see the half-time break come as they were being given a lesson in
football that they had probably never had previously.
After the break, Tivvy came out
again with all cylinders firing and continued to pressurise the
Ridgeway defence, and as in the first half Tivvy were first to
almost every ball and the Ridgeway players continued to try and play
the long ball. Eight minutes in they actually managed to get a
corner which was sent into the danger area where, after a goalmouth
scramble, the ball ended up in the net. 2-1. With them pulling a
goal back they must have felt they were in with a chance but there
were no signs of nerves from the Tivvy boys who continued to play
their football with style and attacked the Ridgeway end in an
attempt to get a third goal, which would kill the game. With 10
minutes remaining Tivvy earned themselves another corner and I found
myself thinking is this going to be another Nation/Bristow
corner/header combination, I was disappointed for almost all of 3
seconds as Nation delivered the ball to the near post, where Bristow
was waiting but did not manage to get the flick on as usual.
However, the ball fell quickly to his feet and like a little ferret
he turned on the ball to punt it into the back of the net making it
3-1 and not helping anybody’s sore throat whatsoever. The Ridgeway
boys were clearly playing with their heads down now as they knew
they were a beaten side and they must have been wondering if it was
a different team from the one they played in the morning. The injury
tally was not yet quite complete as George Chamberlin had to come
off with what initially looked like a broken wrist after being
stamped on.
The game finished 3-1 to Tivvy and
words can barely describe the jubilation felt by all concerned for
the boys and management and the ardent Tivvy fans who followed.
This game, had it been a senior football match, would go down in
football annals as all time great, not just because of the scoreline
but because of every one of those boys in the team, showing the
character that has taken them through a season where they have been
unbeaten in cup and league and proven themselves to be true
champions.

CUP FINAL
Heathfield 1 v 2
Tivvy U12's
“It was not pretty,
but sometimes a result is all that counts”
Oh joy, two titles in
as many weeks. Having been awake and watching the snow from the
early hours of this morning, whilst nervously thinking about how the
boys would perform, it dawned upon me that yet again the game may be
cancelled due to bad weather. Not so …… although cold at times, yet
again the sun shone down on the Tivvy boys and the mass of
supporters from both sides who turned up to watch a very hard fought
and physical cup final. Having watched both sides warm up during
the hour that preceded the game, it was clear Heathfield were up for
it as much as the Tivvy boys.
Tivvy started the game
well and straight from the kick off Jack McGovern was down the line
like a shot to cross the ball into the penalty area for Alan
Woodcock, who on this occasion was unfortunate that the upright was
not 6” to the left, as it was only the woodwork that kept the ball
out. Less than 60 seconds later Tivvy were back at it when they
were awarded a free kick some 20 yards outside the penalty area.
Max Bristow sent the ball into the danger area for Woodcock to lash
the ball into the net giving the keeper no chance. Tivvy continued
with some great interlinking play in midfield which was occasionally
broken up by the strength of the Heathfield midfield players.
Around about the 6 minute mark Tivvy were awarded another free kick,
this time to the left of the penalty area which had Jason
Allington’s name written all over it. He launched the ball into the
box and again Woodcock was unlucky not to extend the lead as he
couldn’t get the final touch. Heathfield came to life with a sudden
realization of why the Tivvy boys were going to be moving up to
their league next season as reigning champions. They pushed forward
and started to keep Stephen Bucknell very busy for a period of time
before the game went back to the Heathfield end for Daniel Nation
and Bristow to start working their corner kick combination magic.
Nation’s corner was flicked on by Bristow from the near post, but
was stopped by some confident goalkeeping, the ball came out and,
after a few scrappy touches, Bristow got his foot in to send the
ball in making it 2-0. Shortly after this Bristow was taken out by
an awful challenge which left him dazed at the side of the pitch.
Two – nil is always a
dangerous lead in football as it often inspires the opposition to
fight that little bit harder and today’s game was no exception, for
the next 10 minutes or so Heathfield gave it everything to try and
get a goal back. On the first of several occasions Jason Allington
slid into make a fantastic tackle in his own penalty area preventing
Heathfield’s big number 16 up front from unleashing his shot on
target. Two thirds of the way through the first half Callum Burgin
was adjudged to have fouled the number 16 close to the box and the
resultant free kick came off a Tivvy head for an own goal, making
the score 2-1.
From the kick off
Tivvy were back down the Heathfield end where they earned another
corner for Nation to send in, the initial kick was well defended and
got knocked back out to him only for Nation to fire it back in,
which was met by Bristow’s athletic overhead cycle kick that, had it
gone in, would have been a wonder goal. However, the Heathfield
keeper made a wonder save and tipped it over the bar. From hereon
in the first half was all Heathfield and the strength and physical
nature of their front man was causing the Tivvy boys real trouble at
the back, at times it was even the case that Jack McGovern had to
track back, which he did very well, to help with the defence.
The Tivvy boys looked
glad to see the break and probably needed a well earned rest as they
must have been aware Heathfield were going to come out in the second
half and throw everything at them to get the equaliser. With the
emphasis strongly on Heathfield needing to score, the Tivvy boys
seemed to be sitting back a bit and absorbing all the pressure
looking for a break, which almost came - McGovern was threaded
through a ball from midfield which he took well to run straight at
goal, leaving the defender for dead. He was one on one with the
keeper, looking like making it 3-1 but some very courageous
goalkeeping prevented the shot going in, to send the ball behind for
a corner. Nation delivered the ball to the edge of the box where
Lewis White attempted a volley that was again stopped and very well
held by the keeper. After some 10 minutes of the second half was
played Bucknell found himself being bombarded by the Heathfield
strike force when he had to make several saves, the highlight of
which was a diving save to his left which, had he not made it, could
have changed the whole complexion of the game as it was clearly
goal-bound.
A tactical change was
made with Jack McGovern coming off and being replaced by Harry
Webber to shore up the midfield leaving Woodcock the lone man
up-front. It proved to be a great substitution with Webber making
some good interceptions along with Zak Morgan who himself was like a
human dynamo.
The last quarter of
the game saw Tivvy holding on to the lead with some at time
desperate defending that seemed to work. With Heathfield pretty much
camped out in the Tiverton half it allowed Woodcock a couple of
opportunities to try and nick a third goal to kill the game.
However, with all the running he had done by this stage it looked
very much like his legs could barely hold him.
The last five minutes
of the game seemed to last for an hour and when the final whistle
did go there was a huge sigh of relief as well as jubilation for all
concerned with Tivvy.
Playing well were Zak
Morgan, Max Bristow and Jack Cottrell but with an outstanding
display of commitment and tireless effort man of the match was Alan
Woodcock.

Wellington 1 v 4
Tivvy U12's
It was a gloriously
sunny evening that saw the two teams meet, both realizing the
importance of the game about to be played; Tivvy to extend their
unbeaten run by another game and if Wellington were to come out on
top they would have earned promotion by second in the league behind
the already crowned Champions, Tivvy Under 12s.
Straight from the
kickoff, Tivvy were right on their game and applied instant, and
almost very effective pressure when after 30 second they had already
earned a corner which was superbly delivered by Daniel Nation, who
is becoming renowned for his expert corner taking. Unfortunately the
corner came to nothing and Tivvy found themselves having to defend,
which they did well and managed to get the ball out wide to Max
Bristow who, for the first of many occasions in this game, steamed
down the flank leaving the Wellington boys standing. The ball went
down the deadline and Bristow earned another corner and Wellington
had to continue defending, which they did well. Around the 10 minute
mark Wellington had their first real chance from a free kick after
one of the Tivvy boys was adjudged to have handled the ball. The
resulting free kick just outside the penalty area was safely caught
by Stephen Bucknell in goal. Straight from the kick out Jack
McGovern out-paced the back men to unleash a short range shot and
the only thing that stopped him scoring was the rebound off the
upright as the keeper didn’t see it at all.
The 15 minute mark saw
Wellington take the lead after being awarded a penalty when Ollie
Main was pulled up by the referee for a supposed late tackle inside
the box.Tivvy kicked off and immediately dampened the spirits of
Wellington by equalizing with some great one touch football that saw
Drew Laskey pass the ball from the penalty area to Bristow on the
line, who sent it down to Lewis White to cross it in for Jack
McGovern to head in a great goal, which was his 50th of
the season. A short time after McGovern got his second of the game
to make it 2-1 after an uncharacteristic mistake by the Wellington
keeper saw him fumble the ball McGovern’s predatory instinct saw him
put a foot out to punt the ball in.
Around the 20 minute
mark Tivvy’s captain Bristow extended the lead further with a well
taken header that he met from Jason Allington’s free kick. The
Tivvy boys continued to press for the rest of the first half and the
only incident that could have caused any problems was well dealt
with by Bucknell when he had to sprint to the edge of his area to
make a well-timed sliding challenge to stop a Wellington striker
being able to unload his shot.
The first half ended
with Tivvy 3-1 up, which was a well deserved lead, but it was
certainly not all one way traffic against a very physical Wellington
side.
The second half
started for Tivvy with the sun behind them, and one minute in Jason
Allington made it 4-1 with a 25 yard free kick that flew into the
top corner. The keeper did manage to get a hand to it but was
unable to stop the venomous shot going in. For the next 10 minute
or so the game was a little stagnant with neither side making any
clear cut chances, and it wasn’t until the last quarter of the game
that the Tivvy boys fully woke up again. Zak Morgan made some
crucial challenges in the midfield area and his tracking back was
superb when he needed to support Callum Burgin and George Gardiner
at the back, who both had very busy periods of the game and were
both outstanding.
Seventeen minutes into
the second half the referee evened up the penalty awards after a
blatant handball by the Wellington defender. Unfortunately the
penalty taker Alan Woodcock appeared to scuff his shot in the long
grass to push the ball wide past the post, so the score remained
4-1. The last 10 minutes saw Nation taking some more great corners
and a free kick, in particular was the first of the corners which
was met by Woodcock to slam the shot at goal, which was kept out by
some very brave goalkeeping. The remainder of the game was played
mainly in the Wellington half with Tivvy trying to find their fifth
goal, but it wasn’t to come as the Wellington defense were resolute
and on the occasions they did manage to break out if they weren’t
stopped in midfield, Burgin, Gardiner or Laskey made sure they
didn’t get anywhere near taking a shot.
This was a well
fought, well deserved and hard earned victory by the Tivvy lads.
Playing well were Zak Morgan, Ollie Main and George Gardiner, but
Men of the match were Callum Burgin and Max Bristow.

Tivvy 16 v 0 Tone Youth
The first day of summer saw the
clocks go forward an hour but the hour less in bed showed no effect
on the Tivvy boys who today, justifiably, won the game they needed
to to ensure they would be crowned this season’s Taunton Youth
League Division 2 Champions. With the Tivvy boys having 15 straight
league victories under their belts this season, this being their 16th
game it was never going to be an easy task for any team to come and
beat them.
The game started at 2.30 and Tivvy
were looking lively from the start, and with less than 90 seconds
played Jack McGovern was unlucky not to open the scoring when Jason
Allington passed the ball through to McGovern’s feet on the edge of
the area and the powerful shot he unleashed was only stopped by the
upright. With four minutes played it was clear that the intention
was for Tivvy to take this game to Tone Youth when Daniel Nation
sent in a corner kick for McGovern to header off target, only for
Lewis White to head in, making it 1-0. The barrage from McGovern
continued when, in the 8th minute, the ball was sent from
mid-field to his feet and with his back to goal he made an exquisite
turn to leave the defender standing and the ensuing shot went
narrowly past the post. The Tone defence were playing the offside
trap very well and McGovern, who was clear through in the 10th
minute, was adjudged to offside and the resulting free-kick that was
awarded was one of only two occasions in the first half where Tone
managed to escape their own half. With the continued bombardment
the 12th minute saw Ollie Main extend the lead to 2-0
after a Paul Robinsonesque mistake from the Tone keeper left an open
goal for Main, and he wasn’t going to miss from 2 yards. Straight
from the kick-off Tivvy were back in the Tone penalty area where
Daniel Nation made it 3-0 after Main managed to release the ball for
Nation to tap in just before he was brought down. The 16 minute
mark saw some great control of the ball from Lewis White who managed
to spin on the ball to go down the wing and send in a sublime ball
for Main who volleyed an unstoppable shot, which again was only
stopped by the woodwork. Two minutes later Nation doubled his tally
when the ball was sent into the danger area where the Tone keeper
fumbled the ball again, which left it at Nation’s feet to tap in.
The 20 minute mark showed a tactical substitution when Max Bristow
was brought on in place of Lewis White. This seemed to be an
inspired substitution as within 2 minutes Tivvy had earned a corner
which Nation superbly delivered to the near post for Bristow to
flick in, making it 5-0. It was only a matter of another 2 minutes
before Bristow crossed the ball into the path of Zak Morgan on the
edge of the box, who brilliantly lobbed the keeper, making it 6-0.
The play continued to be constantly in the Tone half with the Tivvy
boys well and truly on fire. Jack McGovern got his 2nd
of the game after he crossed ball to Morgan who fired a shot at the
keeper who could only parry it away to the feet of McGovern taking
it to 7-0. With just over a minute of the first half remaining
Nation and Bristow combined again to make it 8-0 with a carbon-copy
corner and header to leave the Tone boys wondering what they had to
do to stop wave after wave of attack. The first half ended 8-0.
For a few moments at the beginning
of the second half Tivvy appeared a little sluggish but they soon
livened up after McGovern got his hat-trick to take it to 9-0 when
some great battling in mid-field saw the ball put through to him to
beat the tired defence, sending him one on one with the keeper, who
he went past to score. The Nation and Bristow duo almost made it a
hat-trick of corner/header goals around 8 minutes into the second
half, but fortunately for Tone the keeper managed to get a fingertip
to the ball, pushing it out for, what seemed like 20 seconds of
madness as 4 or 5 Tivvy players in the box could not put it past the
keeper. Tivvy continued to push and round about the 40 minute mark
Jason Allington threaded yet another ball through midfield which
McGovern latched onto to unleash a shot, making it 10-0. A short 5
minute period with no goals gave me a chance to reflect on the game
and how the boys were playing, which left me in no doubt why this
team of young players were going to be crowned Champions within the
next 20 minutes or so. Around the 58th minute mark Jack
Cottrell added his name to the score sheet after Jason Allington put
the ball through to give him an easy tap in. The Tivvy scoring
machine was well back in its swing now when around the 60 minute
mark Main got another goal and after substitute Alan Woodcock played
a deft little pass back across the goal to his feet, making it
12-0. Less than one minute later the only player in the whole Tivvy
squad who was yet to score this season got his name on the score
sheet with a great individual effort that showed some great footwork
(may be its the new boots!) making it 13-0 ……… did I mention it was
Callum Burgin. Jack Cottrell scored his second 2 minutes later,
making it 14-0. The next goal of the game saw Jake Burridge rifle
in an unstoppable shot taking it to 15-0. The final goal came with
less than 5 minutes to play and it went to Alan Woodcock who shot
past the keeper after showing some great strength in mid-field to
get to the position he was in and finish what was a well deserved
win for the Tivvy boys.
Man of the match was well earned and deservedly went to Daniel
Nation.

Tivvy 10 v 0 Westonzoyland
On a damp and chilly afternoon, this was Tivvy`s first meeting with
Westonzoyland who are currently placed at the lower end of the
league. However, they proved to be very tough opponents who found
themselves defending strongly from the off. With the Tivvy boys
camped out in their half for the first 5 minutes they fought against
the pressure well. With all this pressure it was only a matter of
time before Tivvy had a shot on goal. However, Alan Woodcock’s shot
was well saved by the Westonzoyland keeper. From this save, the
visitors managed to break free and found themselves in the Tivvy
half, only for their attempt on goal to be met by Tivvy`s Darren
Paul in goal The pressure on the Westonzoyland goal continued but
Tivvy failed to convert any attempts on goal. However, around the 20
minute mark George Chamberlin was brought on to the field and within
a couple of minutes he had found a route through the visitors
defense and managed to score Tivvy`s first goal. This seemed to
settle the Tivvy boys and within a couple of minutes Jack McGovern
had a shot on goal, which the Weston keeper managed to keep out.
The ball then came back to the feet of Chamberlin again, who
skillfully threaded himself through the defense to slot home his
second of the game. A minute or so later Josh Kallaway made it 3-0.
At the start of the second half the Tivvy boys came out eager to add
to their tally. Within seconds Jack McGovern was in on goal only to
have his shot saved yet again by and extremely agile keeper. About
3 minutes into the game a cross from Max Bristow on the right wing
met the feet of Josh Kallaway who then passed the ball through to
Jack McGovern to finally get his name on the score sheet. The Tivvy
boys were still finding the Westonzoyland defense difficult to
penetrate and on several occasions found themselves being muscled
off the ball. However, another good cross from Bristow found
McGovern’s head and the ball ended up in the back of the net for
Jack’s second of the day.
From the restart Tivvy began to push forward again and within a
minute McGovern scored his 3rd of the game. About half
way through the second half the ball was brought into the penalty
area by Zak Morgan who had a shot on goal, only for the keeper to
kick it away from the line. The ball ended up at the feet of Ollie
Main who slotted home his first goal. A few minutes later, after a
goalmouth scramble, Zak finally managed to get the ball past the
keeper to make it 8-0. Within minutes the score was 9-0 after a run
by Chamberlin who threaded the ball through to Jack McGovern for him
to slot home his 4th of the day. It was left for Ollie
Main to fire home his second of the day to make the final score
10-0.

Bridgwater Wolves 0 v 5
Tivvy
Tivvy do the double on Bridgwater
Wolves with a 5 nil victory which takes them to the top of the
Taunton Youth League with a slim lead of 1 point, with 3 games in
hand over the Wolves, who have only been beaten twice this season
and the Tivvy lads can lay claim to both victories.
The pressure of keeping the run of
clean sheets going seemed like it may have been having an affect in
the early moments of the game with Tivvy looking a little nervous
and the Wolves clearly wanting to spoil the party to keep their
hopes of winning the league alive. However, not having conceded a
goal since 16th December it wasn’t something the lads
were going to give up too easily and this soon became clear when
after the first 5 minutes or so Daniel Nation almost opened the
scoring when the Wolves keeper made a mistake to give him a chance
of firing but the shot was pushed wide for a corner which Nation was
also unlucky not to score from. Tivvy continued to build the
pressure but seemed to be playing the ball long too often until
around the 9 minute mark a great ball from Ollie Main was spread out
to Max Bristow, who shot down the line and crossed the ball in
superbly for Alan Woodcock who on this occasion could not give it
the finishing touch. Eleven minutes into the game Woodcock broke the
deadlock after converting a penalty for a deliberate handball in the
penalty area by one of the Wolves defenders. The Wolves continued to
try to stay in the game but their tactics of playing it long were
fruitless as George Gardiner, Cameron O’Donnell and Callum Burgin
remained solid at the back and dealt confidently with everything
that was thrown at them. The next chance for Tivvy came from another
well delivered cross from Bristow around about the 20 minute mark
which Jack McGovern hit wide with an un-characteristic slice at the
ball. However, the paring of Bristow and McGovern made up for it 4
minutes later when another sublime cross was excellently finished by
McGovern to make it 2-0 which clearly removed any thoughts of being
beaten and nerves the boys may have had and the first half finished
up with that scoreline.
Tivvy started the second half
looking to extend on their lead and it was quite clear they had been
told to get back to playing their game of passing and to show more
composure on the ball which they did and it only took 7 minutes of
the second half to pass before the constant wave of attack was
rewarded with Woodcock’s brace and Tivvy’s third. Having extended
the lead the air of relief was almost tangible and the quality of
the play increased significantly with the Tivvy lads staying further
up field and making it very difficult for the Wolves to get out of
their own half. There was an opportunity for the Wolves to get back
into the game with a free kick which was dispatched by their front
man “Gambo” which came off the crossbar and took an age for the
Tivvy defence to clear. Moments later another dubious free-kick was
awarded and the same player took an equally good shot which was
cleared off the line with an effort that is no less than magnificent
by George Gardiner to keep the record going. With 10 minutes to go,
and the Wolves pressing hard, Zak Morgan raced down the line after
being fed the ball from mid-field and after beating two defenders
and coming into the middle of the penalty area, unleashed a great
strike to finish a fantastic solo effort making it 4-0. Five
minutes later substitute Harry Webber muscled the ball from the
Wolves’ midfield taking it to the edge of the penalty area where he
spread the ball to Morgan who got his second of the game. The game
ended 5-0 with another great display of football and team work by
the Tivvy lads, but the outstanding player, not just for his 2 goal
contribution, but also for his team ethic, was Zak Morgan.

Tivvy 11 v 0 Wellington Falcons
After last weeks heroics in the cup it was time for
Tivvy to try and notch up some more points in the league. The last
time we met Wellington Falcons we ran away with the game and I think
the boys thought that today would be a stroll in the park. Well with
that said it was not the best Tivvy performance of the season by a
long way. However we should take nothing away from Wellington who
battled for every ball and totally dominated midfield for the whole
game.
It was the front three for Tiverton who seemed to do
all the work and made their own chances. Jake Burridge put Tiverton
in the lead with a dink over the keeper to get his first goal for
Tivvy. Wellington did offer the odd break, but Tivvys backline were
strong and left nothing through. The Tireless Alan Woodcock was also
chasing down every ball and made two chances for himself which he
took to give Tivvy a three nil lead. Just before half Time Ollie
Main hit the back of the net to give Tivvy a nice 4 goal cushion.
In the second half a few changes saw Tivvy hold the ball better, but
were still being caught on the ball far too often. More and more of
the game was being played in the Wellington half and chances were
bound to appear. Wellington again were dangerous on the break, but
Captain Darren Paul gathered up any shots and loose balls. Soon
Tiverton started to find their shooting boots and I think Wellington
started to tire. Burridge found the back of the net for his second
and round off his debut, Main added a further three and Woodcock
also added three.
Outstanding performances were hard
to find today, but Woodcock, Main and George Gardiner definitely had
good games. Injured Callum Burgin gave today's man of the match and
he awarded it to Jake Burridge for two great goals and nice passing
- well done Jake.

February 2008 Taunton Youth League Cup Semi Final
Tivvy 3 v 0 Bishops Lydeard
Bishops Lydeard came to Ladysmead as current cup
holders and top of division 1, so Tiverton knew they would have a
game on their hands today. Pitch conditions were not great and did
not lend itself to Tivvy`s trademark passing game. So a change in
tactics was needed and the boys adapted well to both the new
formation and the testing conditions.
Bishops Lydeard definitely started the brighter and
immediately took the game by the scruff of the neck. It took the
yellows around 10 minutes to find their feet and were soon asking
questions of the visitors defence. Although Bishops Lydeard were
strong and enjoying possession they offered no real threat on goal
in this period. However Tivvy were testing the Somerset's keeper and
eventually the first goal came. Jack McGovern surged in to the
oppositions box and was brought down for what seemed a certain
penalty. However the excellent referee delayed his whistle and
somehow a Bishops Lydeard defender blasted the ball in to his own
net. Tivvy continued the pressure and defended well with the
majority of the game being played in the middle of the park. George
Chamberlin came on and added some fresh legs to the centre of
midfield. He made an immediate impact receiving the ball on the edge
of the box to coolly slot home and double Tivvy`s lead.
In the second half Tivvy proved their mustard and
defended and battled well. Tiverton were creating chances but fine
defending from Bishops Lydeard kept the score as it was. As we
entered the final period of the game a match changing period took
place. Bishops Lydeard finally broke through the Tivvy back line
with a defence splitting pass. A striker was straight on to it and
fired what turned out to be their only shot on goal in the whole
game. However a miraculous save from Stephen Bucknell denied Bishops
Lydeard and preserved Tivvy`s clean sheet. Then within a few minutes
Zak Morgan delivered the pass of the game through to George
Chamberlin who scored Tivertons Third. This really put the outcome
of the match beyond doubt and the final moments of the game were a
non event.
An excellent display from the young yellows showing
a battling side of their game rarely seen in the past. Excellent all
round performances and difficult to pick anyone for man of the
match. But all the players were happy to give man of the match to
George Gardiner for a great display in defence and also Stephen
Bucknell for a match changing save and excellent positioning all
game.

Hamilton 0 v 16
Tivvy
Although with games in hand Tiverton Under 12`s lay
second in the Taunton Youth League and three points today was a must
to stay in touch. Tivvy were immediately on the attack and within
the first minute Alan Woodcock found the back of the net. This set
the tone of the match with the yellows continually asking questions
of Hamilton. With most of the game being played in the home sides
half goals were bound to come and Tivvy found themselves well in
control being nine nil up at half time.
In the second half Hamilton did make a few breaks
but Tivvy`s back line and Captain Stephen Bucknell in goal absorbed
any threats. Tiverton continued to push for more goals playing some
attractive football and the score line gradually crept up. Hamilton
played some nice football of their own in midfield, but could not
find the break they were looking for.
The final whistle blew with an impressive score line
for Tiverton. A great team performance by the young yellows who
played a good game of football. Playing well for Tiverton were Alan
Woodcock, Ollie Main and Zak Morgan. But scoring his first goal of
the season and an impressive passing game was Jason Allington who
claimed man of the match.

Sedgemoor Lions 0 v 9
Tivvy
The Towns Under 12s started off the New Year with a good away
performance against Sedgemoor Lions. Trying out a new formation the
Yellows looked a bit lost in the first ten minutes, however it did
not take much longer than that for the Yellows to adapt. A new
emphasis on building the play from the back worked OK, but chances
being created were not converted. It was at least 15 minutes in to
the game before Jack McGovern battled to win the ball in the box
setting up Daniel Nation who fired Tivvy in to the lead. McGovern
then battled again to find himself a scoring opportunity which he
took well. With Tiverton 2 nil up Sedgemoor came back in to the game
battling well in midfield. However the back four were in no mood to
concede today and cleared everything the Lions threw at them.
Another attack found George Chamberlin in the box who's trickery
attracted a lunging tackle and was awarded a penalty. Up stepped
Cameron O'Donnell to take the penalty. O'Donnell blasted the penalty
to the keepers right and although he got a hand to it the shot was
too fierce and nestled in the back of the net for O'Donnell's first
goal of the season.
At half time Tiverton reverted back to their normal formation and it
was clear to see the players were more comfortable. The three goal
cushion was just what Tivvy needed as the Lions were still in the
hunt for their first goal. However as they pushed forward Tivvy
caught them on the break and Ollie Main extended the lead to four.
Tiverton`s defensive players of Callum Burgin, George Gardiner, Drew
Laskey, Jason Allington and O'Donnell got stronger and stronger as
the game progressed. This allowed the Yellows to enjoy larger
periods of possession. Tiverton`s Fifth goal came courtesy of Alan
Woodcock who took his goal well. Nation ended his impressive
performance with a strike from outside the area which found its way
through the crowd and find the net. Zak Morgan then finished a
wonderful move down the right with a lovely goal from just inside
the area. Tivvy`s eighth was scored by Lewis White who dribbled
through the Sedgemoor defence and toe poked home. The best goal was
saved until last when a series of passes in midfield found McGovern
on the right who delivered a peach of a cross to Woodcock who
volleyed home with the last kick of the match.
The boys knew what their target was today and they delivered - well
done. The defensive players with great kicking and throwing by
Stephen Bucknell in goal was a joy to watch. Nice displays by Josh
Kallaway, Drew Laskey, Cameron O'Donnell and Daniel Nation, but Max
Bristow who gave 100% in two positions was awarded man of the match.

Tivvy U12`s 9 v 1 Galmington Dragons
After a couple of weeks of postponed games Tiverton`s Under 12s were
back in league action. The Yellows were keen to get some more points
on the table as other teams had closed the gap at the top. The
opening exchanges were mainly in the Somerset teams half. However
Galmington were a big strong team and were not going to give Tivvy
an easy game. Galmington gave Tiverton no time on the ball and
showed great tenacity in the middle of the park. It took some nice
passing to unlock the visitors defence and Max Bristow slammed home
the opening goal of the game for the yellows. Soon after Jack
McGovern passed an exquisite ball through to Bristow again who put
Tivvy 2 up. Tiverton started to enjoy large periods of possession
which was fiercely defended by Galmington. Ollie Main, Jack McGovern
and George Chamberlin all added to the score line in this period
giving Tiverton a comfortable 5 v 0 lead at half time.
Galmington came out with great determination in the second half and
started to ask questions of the Yellows back line. Eventually they
found the break through and squeezed a shot passed Stephen Bucknell
to give the visitors some hope. Tiverton responded and tried to get
their passing game back, but Galmington were closing the Yellows
down very quickly. Alan Woodcock finally found the back of the net
again followed by two further goals from Chamberlin and another from
Main.
A good result with nice performances from all around the pitch.
Playing particulay well were Max Bristow, Ollie Main, Josh Kallaway,
Cameron O`Donnell and Daniel Nation. Harry Webber claimed man of the
match for an outstanding defensive display.

November 2007 Taunton Youth League Cup quarter final
Watchet 1 v 8
Tivvy U12`s
The Towns Under 12s team travelled to Watchet in the
League Cup Quarter Finals on Sunday. A lovely setting overlooking
the sea set the scene for what proved to be a competitive game of
football. Tivvy were out of the blocks very quickly and were testing
the Watchet defence straight away. This led to a ball being played
in from the left and an unfortunate Watchet defender found the back
of his own net to open the scoring. Tiverton continued to press and
use the ball well to stretch the Somerset sides defence. This soon
led to the second Tivvy goal taken by Jack McGovern exquisitely.
Watchet started to get in the game with some fine battling in
midfield which kept the Tivvy boys on their back foot. However using
the width and keeping possession Tiverton opened up the reds defence
for Alan Woodcock to coolly finish giving Tivvy a 3 nil lead.
McGovern added another quick goal to make it 4 and put the
yellows firmly in the driving seat. Just before half time Max
Bristow found the ball on the right and shot from distance to find
the back of the net.
In the second half Watchet came
out very strong and their resolute defending in midfield killed the
Tiverton passing game. This led to a period with no team really
taking control of the game. Watchet continued to press the yellows
defence especially from the long kicks by their impressive
goalkeeper. A well worked move found Woodcock in the area with time
to find his second and Tivvy`s sixth of the game. McGovern earned
his hatrick with a nice solo run and slotting home. Watchet then
finally broke the defence with a long ball and scored the goal they
rightly deserved for all their battling in midfield.
Bristow then finished off the match with another scorcher from
outside the box which was easily the goal of the game.
A very good performance with a nice bit of battling from Tiverton
against a firm Watchet side. Credit should go to the Watchet number
5 defender and their goalkeeper who were outstanding. Playing well
were Callum Burgin, Alan Woodcock and Stephen Bucknell. However two
players caught the eye and both claimed man of the match, Ollie Main
and Max Bristow.

Tivvy U12`s 12 v 1
Bridgwater VPR
Tiverton`s Under 12s continued their unbeaten run in
the Taunton Youth League beating Bridgwater VPR comfortably at
Ladysmead. In the first half Tivvy dominated the opening minutes and
soon found themselves in the lead with a goal from Jack McGovern.
Once in the lead the Towns side continued the pressure and a
controversial goal from Ollie Main doubled the lead. George
Chamberlin and Lewis White were on fire in the centre of the park. A
formidable partnership winning everything coupled with exquisite
passing gave Bridgwater all sorts of problems. Further goals from
Zak Morgan George Chamberlin and a further three from McGovern put
the result of this match beyond doubt at half time.
This allowed for mass changes and chances to try
players in different positions. This did naturally disrupt the Tivvy
team and the game bottomed out. The introduction of Alan Woodcock
produced the goal of the game firing a Gerrard like strike in to the
stanchion of the goal. He then went on to follow this up with a
further two to claim his Hatrick. Josh Kallaway then delightfully
lobbed the Goalkeeper to claim his sixth goal of the season.
Disappointingly all the Tivvy players started to try and get on the
score sheet and this lead to the game drifting away in to a hit and
hope affair. However it was difficult with the game being played all
in one half of the pitch.
One final change led to Birthday Boy George Gardiner
being drafted from the back to Centre Forward. Having kept the
dangerous Bridgwater number 11 quite all game it was his chance to
cause problems in the Somerset sides box. However this gave the
mentioned number 11 a bit of breathing space which he took full
advantage of. Running on to a punt up field he beat the last Tivvy
man to blast an unstoppable shot past Stephen Bucknell. Rapturous
applause and cheering showed just how much it meant for the
Bridgwater side to score at Ladysmead. The loudest cheers were yet
to come though as the players favourite, George Gardiner, found
himself with the ball at his feet in the box. With a lovely strike
Gardiner at last scored his first goal for the yellows in the dying
minutes of the game.
Playing very well were George Chamberlin, Ollie
Main, Max Bristow, Zak Morgan and making his home debut Alex Jones.
Claiming man of the match though was George Gardiner having an
outstanding game at the back topped off with his first goal for the
club.

Bridgwater VPR 1 v 10
Tivvy U12's
Not the best of performances from the Towns Under 12
side, but still created enough chances to win the game with ease.
The normal passing game was absent this weekend with only flashes of
what the Tiverton side are really capable of. After going three nil
up the yellows defence was again found to be all at sea letting a
weak goal in to give the Somerset side some hope. Bridgwater kept
asking the questions of the yellows defence with a quick and able
centre forward giving the back four all sorts of problems. Another
Tivvy Goal just before half time helped settle the side a little as
the whistle went.
Bridgwater were still intent on taking the game to
Tivvy and continued to send long balls for their forwards to chase.
However Tivvy held firm and created lots of chances of which six
were converted. It could have been much more, but for the Bridgwater
defence and keeper playing a great game.
In comparison to last weeks display Tivvy were not
pretty to watch, but still a fantastic result. Man of the Match was
Zak Morgan who showed excellent wing play and passing throughout the
game.

Tivvy U12's 20 v 1 Hamilton
Tiverton U12s continued their unbeaten league run at
Ladysmead Stadium with an impressive performance by the young
yellows. Not really because of the score line, but the way in which
the game was won. For the first twenty minutes you could only stand
back and admire the way in which Tivvy controlled the game.
Excellent team play, crisp intricate passing and lethal finishing
soon saw Tiverton in control. Hamilton did well to compete with the
towns side showing a clinical performance. It was going all
Tivertons way with everything seeming to work, much to the
misfortune of a decent Hamilton side. By half time a 10 v 0 score
put Tivvy firmly in the driving seat and allowed them to make a few
changes to try different formations. This however did not stop the
yellows strike force who went on to score a further 10 in the second
half. In the dying moments a lack of concentration gave
Hamilton their one strike on goal which was taken well to give the
visitors a consolation goal.
This was a great team performance, with some
delightful football played - everything we practise in training came
off. Sometimes everything goes right and today was the day for the
Towns under 12`s. Man of the match went to Jack McGovern for
excellent team play.

Tivvy U12's 15 v 2 Bridgwater VPR
Tiverton Under 12`s proved to be too strong for the
visiting Bridgwater side in the 1st round of the League Cup. A good
team performance from the yellows put them in the driving seat early
on in this game and were never in threat of not making the next
round. A bit of greediness slipped in to the Tivvy side and that
allowed the Somerset team in to score two against the run of play.
Apart from that a faultless performance from a solid defence,
creative midfield and a ruthless strike force. Playing particularly
well was Zak Morgan, Josh Kallaway and George Gardiner however
shining out was Max Bristow who claimed man of the match. Goal
Scorers Max Bristow (3), George Chamberlin (3), Drew Laskey (2),

Tivvy U12's 9 v 1 Sedgemoor Lions
A glorious Octobers day at Ladysmead provided the
perfect conditions for playing football. The Under 12`s were eager
to continue their impressive start to the league campaign. The team
were asked to try and win this game early and then relax to play
some attractive football. The boys did this and within the first 5
minute Tivvy were one nil up with a shot from Jack McGovern being
parried in to the path of Alan Woodcock for a tap in. Sedgemoor were
resilient and it took some good work in midfield to release McGovern
to double Tivvy`s lead. The front three knew they had been given a
task by the coaches and they delivered as asked. Two further goals
from McGovern and another net breaker from Woodcock put Tivvy well
in the driving seat. Being 5 nil up at half time the yellows were
full of confidence however Sedgemoor came back out the stronger team
and they started to test the yellows defence. The game got tighter
and tighter and finally the Somerset side found the back of the net
to give the visitors something to cheer. However this fired up the
yellows and Captain Drew Laskey soon hit back with two quick goals.
The game then dipped for a period of time with no team really
dominating play. Max Bristow's hard work on the right finally paid
off by getting a well deserved goal. Finally Ollie Main chipped in
with the final goal of the game and Tivvys ninth.
A well contested game of football with Sedgemoor
competing until the final whistle. A good attacking performance was
seen from the clinical Tiverton strikers who were supported well
from midfield. Some great performances from Jason Allington, Max
Bristow, Drew Laskey and Zak Morgan. However Mr Consistent, Cameron
O'Donnell was named man of a match for a faultless display at the
back.

Galmington Dragons 1 v 10
Tivvy U12's
Tiverton Under 12`s continued their good start to
the league with an away win at Galmington Dragons. Tivvy started
brightly passing the ball well and having good possession.
Galmington were winning the battle in midfield and defended well to
keep Tivvy with few shooting opportunities. However Alan Woodcock
took the game by the scruff of the neck and fired Tivvy in to the
lead with two quick goals. With Tivvy in control it took a mistake
at the back to give Galmington a free kick on the edge of the area.
A well struck free kick nestled in the back of the net to give the
home team a glimmer of hope. Just before half time Woodcock was on
hand again to claim his Hatrick and give the yellows back their two
goal cushion.
The second half saw Tivvy take more
control and dominated large periods of play. Jack McGovern continued
his prolific goal scoring form and bagged 4 goals in a row to put
the yellows in a comfortable position. Lewis White chipped in one
more to bring the sore to 8 v 1. At this stage Tiverton were in
cruise control and Jack McGovern finished a further two to bring his
tally to six and Tivvy`s tenth.
A good team
performance, but the boys know themselves what they need to work on.
Solid performances by Alan Woodcock, Cameron O'Donnell and George
Chamberlin, But Goal machine Jack McGovern was awarded man of the
match.
23rd September 2007 League
Tivvy U12's 9 v 2 Bridgewater Wolves
In a good game of football Tiverton found themselves
in a well contested match. In the first half a very disappointing
performance from the yellows was punished by the visitors. After 10
minutes the Wolves found the back of the net leaving Tiverton
chasing the game. Although Tiverton kept making chances a solid
Bridgwater defence was giving the yellow strikers no chance on goal.
A mistake by the visitors back four finally gave Tivvy a chance
which Josh Kallaway bundled across the line. Alan Woodcock made
himself space to fire home a spectacular goal to give Tiverton the
lead. Soon after Jack McGovern gave the yellows some breathing space
by slotting home Tivvy`s third. However yet again slack marking and
basic lack of following instruction allowed another goal for the
visitors. At half time the players were told exactly what was going
wrong and thankfully some of this was taken on board. A bit of bite
was introduced in midfield winning some tackles and we finally
started to pass the ball around. Woodcock scored Tivvy`s fourth and
we started to dominate large periods of play. Jack McGovern found
his shooting boots and took four goals in a row putting Tivvy 8 v 2
up and firmly in the driving seat. Finally George Chamberlin found
the back of the net for the final goal of the game with a strike
from outside of the area. A disappointing first half made this game
hard work against the Somerset side who gave Tiverton a good test.
Harry Webber (Captain), Lewis White, Jack McGovern and Alan Woodcock
all played well, but an impressive performance from Kallaway got him
the man of the match award.

Wellington Falcons 3 v 21
Tivvy U12's
The Under 12`s proved to be too strong for the
Wellington side in their second league game of the season. Tivvy
scored in the first minute and did not look back, continually
pressing for shooting opportunities. Goals from Jack McGovern (5),
Alan Woodcock (4), Lewis White (4), George Chamberlin (3), Ollie
Main, Stephen Bucknell, Zak Morgan (Captain), Jack Cottrell and
Harry Webber. Also playing well were Daniel Nation, Josh Kallaway,
Drew Laskey, Cameron O'Donnell, Jason Allington, Callum Burgin and
George Gardiner. However playing exceptionally well was Lewis White
who claimed the man of the match award.
9th September 2007 League
Tivvy U12's 6 v 1 Wellington
The under 12`s played their first game of the new
season in the Taunton Youth League. An excellent playing surface
meant that we hoped for a good passing game and the yellows did not
disappoint. Both teams started well closing each other down and
passing well. However it was Tivvy who started to dominate play with
long periods of possession pinning the visitors in their own half.
Great wing play from both sides were testing the Wellington defence
and inevitably the opening goal was scored. A great cross from the
right found Daniel Nation unmarked in the box to smash home.
Although Tiverton were on top Wellington did make a threat and were
through to score only to be ruled offside. A decision which could
have changed the game as this spurred the Yellow machine in to
action. Jack McGovern scored two quick goals in typical style by
taking on the keeper and passing the ball in to the net. At 3 v 0
Tivvy were in cruise control and a glorious through ball from the
left saw Ollie Main one on one with the keeper and he does not miss
those! At 4 nil Wellington started to push forward and test the
Tiverton defence. A clumsy challenge from Lewis White in the area
won Wellington a questionable penalty. The Wellington Striker
stepped up and made no mistake thumping the ball in to the net. The
second half saw many changes to the Tivvy team and Wellington seem
to come out a lot more determined. Although Tiverton coped well with
the new pressure Wellington were more of a threat on goal. Alan
Woodcock found himself with only the keeper to beat and neatly
rounded the Wellington number 1 to slot home Tivvys 5th. Late on in
the game Josh Kallaway added his name to the score sheet with a
fabulous strike after a well worked move through the middle of the
park.
A good team performance and we were especially
pleased with the players listening to instructions from the bench.
Great performances from Lewis White, Jack McGovern and Cameron
O'Donnell, but man of the match went to Daniel Nation for an
impressive passing performance.
2nd September 2007 Friendly
Tivvy U12's 3 v 2 East Coker
East Coker arrived at Ladysmead with a reputation as
one of the top sides in the Yeovil area. This reputation was found
to be a true account of the side who gave Tiverton one of their
hardest games in memory. Tiverton were tested fully in this match
and soon found themselves defending against a very strong attacking
side. Again Tiverton's central midfield seemed to still be on their
summer break as East Coker dominated the centre of the pitch. This
inevitably lead to the first goal with another loss of possession in
the middle of the park. With Tiverton one nil down we hoped the boys
would up their game but it just did not come. A well worked move saw
Tiverton go a further goal down with a well finished goal leaving
Tiverton in shock. At last some of the players started to take the
game to the opposition and chances started to appear. 2 goal line
clearances and a hit post signalled the start of the Tiverton come
back. Max Bristow broke through the defence to score his first goal
for Tivvy and give the team some hope. George Chamberlin worked some
magic on the edge of the area to find space and fire home to bring
the game to two all. This probably would have been a fair result to
a very good game of football. However Daniel Nation had other ideas
with an outstanding touch of brilliance. Taking a through ball from
Bristow he found himself with the goalkeeper rushing out of his line
towards him. A delightful chip over the stranded keeper found the
back of the net for a match winning goal. Still a sluggish midfield
performance which quickly needs attention, but an encouraging
display especially when 2 v 0 down. Good performances from Max
Bristow, Josh Kallaway, Harry Webber, Stephen Bucknell and Darren
Paul. However excellent wing work and goal earned Nation the man of
the match

Ashton Boys 0 v 3 Tivvy U12's
Our friends from Bristol gave the Under 12s a very
good game which was really closer than the score line suggests. A
testing playing surface made it difficult for both sides to play the
ball on the floor, Ashton seemed to adapt better than Tivvy and were
soon testing the Tiverton Defence. It was a long ball that found
Tiverton's Alan Woodcock through on the Ashton Goal to delightfully
lob the oncoming keeper to give Tiverton the lead. There were many
chances for both sides to change the score line, but neither were
able to find the back of the net. Finally in the last ten minutes
Tiverton found their feet and dominated the closing period of play.
Good passing from the midfield found Ollie Main twice on goal and he
made no mistake with either bringing the score line to a flattering
3 nil win. Lots to work on for the young yellows side especially in
midfield, but defensively a very good display topped off with
Central Defender George Gardiner claiming man of the match
